Chapter 14:
Sentenced to Babysit
Meanwhile, at the inn, little Prince Josuke was bored. He wanted to become an adventurer and fight monsters.
Asia, seeing the prince, decided to take him out into the city.
<Do you want to go shopping with me?>
The prince smiled and nodded. Everything was decided; they left the inn and headed for the market.
Asia had put aside some savings for herself, but now it didn't matter. She had to spend it for the good of the kingdom.
Hand in hand, the two went from shop to shop to buy food for the long day ahead.
While Asia bought bread, little Josuke played with other children.
When he told them he was the prince, no one believed him. But when he claimed to be a master swordsman, everyone believed him after he defeated all the children in duels.
Besides being a natural talent, Issei's teachings had borne fruit.
Asia, meanwhile, was struggling to find her place, a bit like always. Her wolf ears were looked down upon, not because the werewolf clan had done anything bad, but because she was simply different from everyone else.
Her beauty didn't help; everyone was attracted to her, and the discomfort she felt was unique. Some hated her for having wolf ears, others courted her; it wasn't an easy life.
<You know you're very beautiful.>
The prince was walking with the servant and looking at her with admiration. Asia blushed; it wasn't the first time she'd been told this, but she sensed that Josuke's words were sincere.
The young girl smiled slightly and continued walking. Everything seemed calm, as if forgetting what had happened during the morning.
The sun set and everyone returned to the inn. Asia had already set to work to prepare dinner, while Prince Josuke was sitting at the table waiting for the food, intently gazing out the window. Issei and the coachman Shirou collapsed into their beds, tired from all the monsters they'd faced during the day.
While cooking, Asia splashed herself with boiling water, her agonized scream momentarily soothing all the pain in Issei's body. He rushed to the kitchen, but there was no enemy to defeat, just a clumsy cook. Issei relaxed and returned to his room to wait patiently.
At dinner, they each talked about their day; Asia told them about all the shady characters courting her, or the merchants who wouldn't let her enter their shop.
The prince recounted how he'd defeated all the local children thanks to Issei's teachings.
Meanwhile, the bond between Issei and the coachman Shirou improved significantly; they were both knights of the Wohlstand kingdom, ready to give their lives for the kingdom.
The topic of aggressive adventurers always appeared in all the stories.
Why was everyone so mean and touchy? Why was it only in this town?
Issei didn't understand why, and he made it his own problem.
The next day, the knights returned to the guild, with two goals: to raise more money and to understand why the adventurers were so aggressive and resolve the situation.
Issei walked over to the counter; the guild girl was faking a smile.
<How can I help you?>
Issei leaned closer to the girl so he could whisper.
<How long have they been treating you like this?>
The girl sighed and touched her chest.
<It wasn't always like this. Once upon a time, everything was peaceful, then one day someone realized that all you had to do was follow the quest instructions and receive the reward.>
<There were no rules about behavior, so many stopped being polite.>
<Word spread that in this guild you could do whatever you wanted, and now there's nothing left to do.>
Issei turned to Shirou; the situation was complicated; A rumor that spreads is a difficult thing to fight.
The two knights sighed and left the guild, but they had an idea.
Shortly afterward, a boy entered with some papers in his hands with something written on them. He posted them at the entrance and throughout the guild.
The guild girl watched him post the flyers, not understanding what he was doing or why. Then he reached the counter where quests were accepted and rewards were received, the place where the guild girl worked.
The boy stood with his back to the girl, holding the flyers.
Throughout the morning, adventurers of all sizes and races laughed at the writing on the piece of paper. When someone misbehaved, the boy glanced out the window, then when the adventurers left the guild, they were knocked out by black-faced knights.
The girl couldn't believe her eyes. Over time, people began to behave.
Their plan worked perfectly. Little Josuke used flyers to warn the adventurers to behave, and if they didn't, the prince would give Issei the signal.
He and Shirou, their faces shrouded in black cloth, would knock out the rude adventurers.
After a few hours, word spread that masked vigilantes were punishing anyone who didn't behave.
This whole charade, however, could quickly collapse, so Issei had another great idea.
The knight took a spell he had bought at the market earlier, which allowed him to create a mannequin.
All he had to do was place a design on the magic scroll and it would be imprinted on the mannequin.
With it, Issei created a double of himself to scare the adventurers who didn't believe the rumors.
The mannequin could be moved by voice commands from the user.
This simple plan was very effective.
The guild girl didn't know what to say and tried to offer them money to thank them, but Issei refused. For him it had been just a simple gesture like the good knight he was.
After that, as if nothing had happened, Issei and Shirou went back to their quests to get the money they needed to set off for the king's castle.
I wonder why there aren't any personal magical guards yet. They would be a great help to the weakest.
Calm reigned in the guild; the guild girl couldn't believe it.
One morning and a well-thought-out plan had been enough to solve the problem that haunted the poor guild girl.
