Chapter 32:
Life Stream: Helping a cute girl gain views and followers
"YO! It's your girl, Leona. It's my birthday again, but unlike last year, I ain't going bald. I like my long hair, thank you very much," Leona grinned as she gave her hair a light flick. "I got some great stuff to share today. Turns out this new rhythm game came out, so I decided to play it. Problem is, syncing the sound is a pain. But thanks to Sven and Crowboy, we got shit working. As for the game, it's called, Rhythm Hell. I've never played one of these before, but Crowboy has. He says all you gotta do is press a button in time with the rhythm. Sounds easy, right? EH! You hit it just a millisecond too late, no perfect. I think I can get perfect, but if I don't... I'll go full Regis for a week."
However, as Leona began playing, we quickly realized something.
"Huh, I thought I got this perfect, why didn't it say anything?"
"Hmm, maybe you can only go for perfect when it lets you, like, when a screen shows up," I typed.
"Oh, oh, that means everything is glorified practice until I get the chance to try and perfect things. Anyway, on to the next game."
However, this next game would quickly become the first meme of the stream.
"What the fuck is that thing? Is it a bulldog or a puma?"
The creature in question was a pink bulldog, at least according to the game. This minigame involved having a trainer toss tennis balls from afar for the dog to catch. It had a catchy rhythm, but Leona quickly got tripped up by it.
"CATCH THE FUCKING BALL YOU UGLY PINK SHIT!"
It took Leona quite a few tries to get past that stage.
"Alright, so now I gotta do a "Mix"? It says it combines all the... Ah fuck, I'm gonna have to deal with that stupid dog again," Leona groaned.
Though much to everyone's surprise, Leona had no trouble with the dog portions of the Mix, or the entire Mix itself.
"Gimme that trophy! I'm the queen of rhythm!" Leona gloated as she stretched her arms out.
"Not yet," I typed in the chat.
"What's this about her being a queen?" Astrid asked as she raided.
"Hey look, Astrid's here. Ever play a Rhythm Hell game? I'm playing the one that just came out," Leona waved.
"Nope, never heard of it," Astrid replied.
"Heard of it, but never played one," Sven typed.
"Guess Crowboy's our only series veteran. Anyway, I'm perfect hunting, but the perfects haven't shown up yet. Maybe I need to reach a certain point in the game," Leona shrugged.
Eventually, Leona came across a game that spoke to her.
"YOOOOOO! We gotta splort wasabi here. Let's see, hold down to slap the wasabi on the rice, "A" to blast defective wasabi globs? How can there be defective wasabi?"
"All wasabi is defective," Astrid typed.
Leona did a double take. "Astrid, you know where you're saying this, right? You're asking for war."
"Come and get me!"
"Dispatching kidnappers now. Anyway, while my agents of wasabi track Astrid down, let's play this game!"
But as Leona began playing, she quickly ran into problems.
"Huh!? I'm hitting "A"! Wait! What the fuck, why'd the lights go out!?"
Despite the missteps, Leona did beat the stage without having to replay it, however, she wasn't happy with that, and immediately fetched a tube of wasabi. "I'm gonna show you how it's done. SPLORT! SPLORT! BLAST!" Leona cried as she tried to mimic the game in real life.
Speaking of real life, the next stage featured real-life stock images for some reason.
"T-e-e," the voice in the game sang.
"Why the fuck are there images of golf tees!?" Leona cried.
"Golf mafia," one chat member typed.
"Wait, we got latte now. What the fuck... Now, mule... Yeah, I get we have to spell things that end with e. "E for effort"? More like e for what the fuck is going on... "There's no Es in that line"? That's the point, chat!"
The next stage making it into the highlight reel was Sneezy sun.
"WACHOO!"
"This game is triggering my nose, chat. Seriously, why's the sun such a dick that he'll roar at kids just trying to sneak behind a fence. Oh, and sorry for all the crazy shit flashing on screen, I had no idea the game would have stuff like this in it."
"This whole game is weird," one chat member typed.
"Yeah, the veggie flexing game made me lose faith in humanity," another typed.
"What? The one where you bounce tomatoes and peppers off a guy's biceps? That game was easy- Oh, and look what just became available to perfect, VEGGIE FLEX!" Leona grinned.
The stage in question was rather easy, resulting in Leona perfecting things on her first try.
"WOOO! Take that! Oh, now there's a second Veggie flex available..."
...
"WHAT THE FUCK! STOP MIXING UP PEPPERS AND TOMATOES YOU ASS! AND STOP FLEXING AT ME, YOU FUCKING GORILLA!"
Yeah, think maybe the chat member was referring to this version of Veggie flex when he said it made him lose faith in humanity.
The next game was a much more relaxing one where a golem hurled rocks at incoming purple goop balls.
"If I mess up a perfect, the purple goop will be on me," Leona snickered.
"You made a miss," Astrid quipped.
"Wasn't a perfect run. Oh, and don't think I've forgotten about what you said about wasabi. They should've had the lasers be for blasting salmiak instead. Oh, and here's version 2 of Wasabi splat."
Much to Leona's dismay, she struggled with this stage even more than the first one.
"FUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCKKKKKKKK! SLOW DOWN YOU ASSHOLES!"
"Seems there needs to be a new queen of wasabi," Astrid typed.
"Alright, gagging time," Leona growled as she pulled up an image of Astrid and edited a gag over her mouth. "Oh, and for insulting wasabi, hee, hee, I'm gonna goop you with the purple goop ball," she snickered as she began editing the photo to have purple goop being poured on Astrid's head.
"MMPH!" Astrid typed in the chat.
"Good, you should be angry! Oh, let me add the effect. Think my own art will be making the art showcase today," Leona gloated.
Next up was a game where you had to pluck feathers off a chicken.
"This one's a classic," I typed.
"Need to concentrate... HEY! GET THAT SCARF OUT OF THE WAY! I CAN'T SEE THE FEATHERS!" Leona raged.
Eventually, Leona reached a good stopping point.
"Well that was fun. I didn't see too many perfects, but the ones I did come across, I got them all," Leona smiled.
"Didn't first try them all," Astrid typed.
"Alright, get your ass over here. There's multiplayer and real purple goop, er, paint, waiting for you."
"See you at dinner. Happy Birthday!"
"Wait! Astrid! Ugh, think she's gone. Well, chat, think I'll blitz the art and then I gotta get to dinner."
Heartwarmingly enough, the art was filled with lots of art celebrating Leona's birthday. Then once the stream was over, she locked arms with me, and we headed out to the park.
"Who needs fancy places when you can just sit on the swings and eat cake? Plus we can't take Rina with us to a fancy place," Leona grinned.
"Happy Birthday," I smiled.
"Thanks!" Leona smiled.
