Chapter 6:
Most Wanted Salaryman : My Level Only Goes Negative
A few hours before the High King died.
Millie was a maid at the Castle for almost 5 years, but that was first time she got called directly by the head butler Stan.
"Millie from serving group is here sir!" She announced her name and her work group.
"Come here. Whatever you hear today, make sure it doesn't leave this room." The Head Butler ordered her while leaving the room. Millie was confused but a shadow came forward from the darkness.
"I have heard a lot about you," a soft voice murmured from the shadows.
The First Prince Grace the second stepped out in the light.
What! Millie was panicking inside. For a simple maid to even stand near a Royal family member was impossible.
"I...I'm at your service, Your Highness!" She bowed while trying to be look graceful.
"Such a pity..." The Prince scanned her head to toe, eyes filled with lust.
Millie was very pretty for a maid, she belonged to a ruined noble family. Millie couldn't figure out the sinister look in the Prince's eyes, as she had no experience with love or such.
"Yes your highness?" Millie didn't catch what the Prince had said.
"Nothing, here take this." The Prince took out a small vial from a deep pocket within his coat. It was filled with some white sparkling dust, filled to the brim.
"This is Silver Dust. Add this in His Majesty's tea when he meets the traveler this afternoon. He was having some neck pain for the past few days." The Prince gave a saint like smile.
Silver Dust?! The legendary Silver Dust?
Millie's mind screamed with this sudden shock.
Millie knew a lot about these magical medicines, as her grandma was suffering from some mysterious illness. The church healers had requested some specks of the Silver Dust for the treatment, but it was too expensive.
"Yes your highness!" She took it very carefully with both hands. That vial was worth a house in the capital.
"Ah Also, Keep this a secret okay? I don't want people to make fun of me for being devoted to my father." The Prince smiled while being embarrassed.
"Absolutely, Your Highness." Millie left gracefully thinking the Prince loved his family just as she loved her grandma.
"What was it?" A voice came from a mirror on the Prince's Desk. It was a magic communication device.
"Not Silver Dust..." The Prince replied as his pure smile vanished from his face.
"That Old fart will die from the poison, the traveler from another world will get blamed for it. I kill the traveler to take revenge on my dear father, I become the next King," He explained his foolproof plan to the person in the mirror.
"Just Like that huh?" The person in mirror laughed and magic was cut off. The mirror turned back to normal.
The Prince grabbed a small golden bell and rang twice. A knight in pure black armor came rushing.
"That maid just left, take care of her once she is done delivering the tea," Prince ordered something terrible with a holy smile.
"Yes, my King!" The Black Knight was a trusted henchman of the Prince, doing all the dirty work the Prince had ever ordered.
What should I do?
Millie was confused. On one hand she could lose her job for stealing the Silver Dust, on another hand she needed it for her grandmother.
I should take it! Not like they need it for anything serious. Millie just became a criminal.
I'm so bad! I'll leave this job after today.
The only reason Millie was working hard was to save up enough money for the Silver Dust.
She went into the kitchen making sure no one was present. Most of the servants were busy with the birthday decorations.
She carefully took out all the Silver Dust in a tray, greed took over her.
What if Grandma needs more? I'll just take it all. Millie was a bad bad girl.
She replaced it with a rare Stone Sugar that also had similar sparkles. She put the "original" Silver Dust in a small handkerchief, and hid it away in her dress.
Perfect! Millie was praising herself.
"Now, all I have to do is deliver the tea and leave..." She said that out loud.
"Leave where?" The Head Butler was standing behind her.
"AAAAAAAA" She panicked and jumped back like a cat.
"Stop wasting time in foolish things. Get ready to deliver the tea." The head butler coughed while leaving.
Phew almost got caught! Am I just too good at these kinds of things? She smiled with a smug look.
"Take this to His Highness." The kitchen staff handed Millie the tray.
Millie took the tray very carefully. Her elegant steps followed with clicking sound, she reached the King's Court.
The Head Maid was standing right outside the doors of the King's Court.
"I have brought the tea." She said while smiling like a fool.
"Aren't you forgetting something?" The head maid glared at her.
Ahhh the medicine! But how does the head maid know about it too?
Millie was confused but she didn't have any authority to question the Head Maid.
She emptied the whole bottle in the High King's golden rim tea cup.
"Take it inside." The Head Maid slowly opened the door.
"Phew that was tiring."
Few minutes later Millie was already on the courtyard. She didn't even change her maid uniform.
She pressed her chest, where she had hid the Silver Dust.
Enjoy your extra sweet tea your Highness!
"Time to head home and treat grandma!" She was eagerly marching towards the side exit.
"HALT!" A Knight in black armor stopped her, blocking her path.
NO WAY! Did they already figured out? Millie started sweating rapidly.
"Y-Yes?" She said while trembling in fear. She was trying too hard to hide her panic.
"Follow me..." The Black Knight said with firm tone.
Oh Goddess Freya! Please take care of my grandma. Millie prayed as she followed him silently.
"...I can give it back. It was a mistake," Millie started blabbering on her own.
"What are you even talking about?" The Knight stopped near a narrow wall.
Huh? This isn't about the Silver Dust?
*THAK*
An old man hit Millie on the head from behind, with a wooden stick. Millie dropped instantly.
"Remember," The Black Knight came closer to the old man,"Make sure you do what you are told."
He pushed old man's chest with a pouch full of coins.
"Yes! Yes! Sir Knight! You don't worry." the old man pretended to salute. The Black Knight ignored and walked away.
"Silver coin is Silver coin..." He mumbled while dragging the unconscious Millie.
