Chapter 3:

Points

Checkmate

The first day at Genesis Academy ended at exactly 8:00 PM.

No announcements.

No dramatic speeches.

No final exam.

Just silence.

The students returned to their dormitories carrying the weight of one simple truth.

Their class determined their value.

At least...

That was what Genesis Academy wanted them to believe.

The next morning.

10:00 AM.

Every student's phone vibrated.

The familiar Genesis Academy application opened automatically.

A new notification appeared.

WELCOME TO THE GENESIS POINT SYSTEM

The students stared at their screens.

A second message appeared.

Your class determines your starting resources.

Then...

The numbers appeared.

CLASS S Starting Balance: 10,000 GP CLASS A Starting Balance: 7,500 GP CLASS B Starting Balance: 5,000 GP CLASS C Starting Balance: 2,500 GP CLASS D Starting Balance: 1,000 GP

For several seconds...

Nobody understood.

Then the questions began.

"What are GP?"

"Is this real money?"

"Can we use it?"

"Why are the classes different?"

The answer appeared.

Genesis Points are the official currency of Genesis Academy.

They can be exchanged for products, services, information, and privileges.

Use them wisely.

Your decisions will reveal your true nature.

The students immediately realized.

This wasn't just money.

It was another test.

The academy wasn't asking:

"How smart are you?"

It was asking:

"What kind of person are you when given power?"

Class S

The difference was immediate.

The students entered their dormitories and froze.

Their rooms looked like luxury hotel suites.

Large beds.

Private bathrooms.

High-end computers.

A personal kitchen.

The refrigerator was already stocked.

One student opened it.

"Imported food?"

Another looked at the clothing selection.

"They actually gave us choices?"

Inside every room was a digital closet.

Students could choose any outfit.

Formal clothes.

Casual clothes.

Training equipment.

Designer uniforms.

Everything had a price.

Kai Renzo looked through the options.

"This is insane."

He clicked on a meal menu.

"Steak."

"Fresh sushi."

"Private chef?"

He laughed.

"This school is basically paying us to be here."

Adrian entered his room.

He ignored the food.

Ignored the clothes.

Ignored the luxury.

Instead...

He opened the Genesis Point menu.

He studied everything available.

Information.

Training.

Special access.

Room upgrades.

Private lessons.

Adrian's eyes narrowed.

The points aren't rewards.

They're tools.

The academy gave students resources.

Then watched what they did with them.

Some would waste them on comfort.

Some would invest them.

Some would use them to control others.

Lucien had the same thought.

But his conclusion was different.

He looked at the expensive meals.

The private rooms.

The luxury items.

Then he looked outside.

At the other dorm buildings.

"The difference is intentional."

He whispered.

The academy wanted students to see inequality.

Class D

The reality was completely different.

Their dormitories were clean.

But basic.

Small rooms.

Simple beds.

Limited food.

No extra privileges.

A student opened the cafeteria menu.

He stopped.

Breakfast:

500 GP.

He looked at his balance.

1,000 GP.

"One meal costs half my money?"

Someone beside him laughed bitterly.

"This school is crazy."

Another student checked clothing prices.

"Even replacing a uniform costs 300 GP."

Silence.

Everyone understood.

Class D wasn't poor.

They were trapped.

A girl named Ava Sterling looked around.

"The academy wants us desperate."

Everyone looked at her.

She continued.

"Desperate people make predictable choices."

A student asked:

"What do you mean?"

Ava looked at the screen.

"Some people will steal."

"Some will beg."

"Some will betray others."

"And some will give up."

Meanwhile...

A completely different student was having a different reaction.

He wasn't worried.

He wasn't angry.

He wasn't excited.

He was calculating.

Class B Dormitory

A boy sat on his bed.

Brown hair.

Sharp eyes.

A relaxed smile.

His name was:

Victor Kane.

He looked at his 5,000 GP.

Then smiled.

"Interesting."

A student nearby looked confused.

"You're not upset we're not Class S?"

Victor shrugged.

"Why would I be?"

"Because they have double our points."

Victor laughed.

"Money isn't valuable because of how much you have."

"It's valuable because of what you can make people do with it."

The student stared.

"What are you talking about?"

Victor stood up.

"I'm talking about business."

Victor Kane wasn't the strongest.

He wasn't the smartest academically.

He wasn't the most physically gifted.

But he understood one thing better than anyone.

People.

An hour later...

Victor walked into Class B's cafeteria.

He approached a group of students.

"I have a deal."

They looked at him suspiciously.

"What kind?"

Victor placed his phone on the table.

"I'll give you 500 GP."

"Why?"

"Because I need information."

The students laughed.

"You can just ask."

Victor smiled.

"No."

"Because if information is free..."

"People don't value it."

The students became interested.

"What information?"

Victor leaned forward.

"I want to know everything about Class S."

Their expressions changed.

"Why?"

"Because they're the strongest class."

Victor shook his head.

"Wrong."

"They're the richest class."

A pause.

"Those are not the same thing."

Victor continued.

"Right now, everyone thinks Class S has already won."

"But they're making a mistake."

"They're spending."

"Comfort."

"Luxury."

"Entertainment."

He smiled.

"I'm investing."

The students looked at each other.

One asked:

"What are you trying to become?"

Victor answered instantly.

"Not the strongest."

"Not the smartest."

Everyone waited.

"The person everyone needs."

Class S

Adrian heard about Victor within hours.

Interesting.

A student who wasn't chasing rank.

A student chasing influence.

Lucien also heard.

But their opinions differed.

Adrian:

"He understands resources."

Lucien:

"He understands people."

That afternoon...

The teachers explained the Genesis Point system.

Professor Elena Voss stood in front of Class S.

"Your points represent your current evaluation."

A student raised his hand.

"So the higher class gets more because they're better?"

Professor Voss nodded.

"Currently."

"However..."

She changed the screen.

MONTHLY EVALUATION

"At the end of each month, your performance will affect your points."

Students became alert.

"Winning games increases your points."

"Losing decreases them."

"Poor decisions decrease them."

"Exceptional achievements increase them."

A student asked:

"So can Class D become richer than Class S?"

Professor Voss smiled.

"Yes."

The room went quiet.

"That is the purpose of Genesis Academy."

"The system rewards results."

"Not status."

Adrian looked at the screen.

Finally.

A system that could be exploited.

Lucien looked at the same screen.

A system that could be changed.

That night...

The entire academy was different.

Class S students enjoyed their luxury.

Class A students planned how to rise.

Class B students searched for opportunities.

Class C students struggled.

Class D students worried about survival.

And Victor Kane?

He was already making deals.

By midnight...

He had gained information from three different classes.

By 1:00 AM...

He had convinced two students to work with him.

By 2:00 AM...

He had created his first business agreement.

Adrian checked the rankings.

Not the class rankings.

The individual activity rankings.

A new name appeared.

Victor Kane

Most transactions completed.

Most agreements created.

Highest social influence growth.

Adrian stared.

"So that's your game."

Lucien looked at Victor's name.

He smiled.

"He's dangerous."

The next morning...

Genesis Academy released one final message.

Everyone received it.

THE FIRST MONTHLY GAME WILL BEGIN SOON.

YOUR POINTS ARE YOUR POWER.

YOUR ACTIONS ARE YOUR IDENTITY.

YOUR CHOICES WILL REVEAL WHO YOU TRULY ARE.

A final sentence appeared.

Welcome to Genesis Academy.

Let the real competition begin.

For the first time...

The students understood.

The academy wasn't testing intelligence.

It wasn't testing knowledge.

It was testing something far more dangerous.

Human nature.

The Genesis Academy cafeteria was never quiet.

Even though classes had only existed for two days, the atmosphere had already changed.

Students no longer walked around like classmates.

They walked around like competitors.

Every conversation had a hidden meaning.

Every smile could be fake.

Every favor could have a price.

The Genesis Point system had done exactly what the academy wanted.

It had changed the way people saw each other.

Adrian Vale sat alone near the window.

In front of him was untouched food.

Not because he disliked it.

Because he was thinking.

His phone displayed hundreds of available purchases.

Information.

Training.

Privileges.

Everything had a price.

But Adrian wasn't interested in buying anything.

He was interested in understanding the system.

A shadow appeared over his table.

"You're analyzing the points, aren't you?"

Adrian looked up.

Lucien Ardent stood there.

Adrian stared for a moment.

"You sat down without asking."

Lucien smiled.

"Would you have said yes?"

"No."

"Exactly."

Lucien sat down anyway.

Adrian looked away.

"You're wasting time."

"Am I?"

"Yes."

Lucien looked around the cafeteria.

"Interesting."

"What?"

"We're the only two people not trying to pretend."

Adrian frowned slightly.

"Explain."

"Everyone here is acting."

Lucien looked at the other students.

"Class S students are acting confident."

"Class D students are acting like they don't care."

"Everyone is trying to create an image."

He looked back at Adrian.

"But you and I already know what the other person thinks."

A pause.

"That makes things easier."

Adrian understood.

Lucien wasn't here to be friendly.

He was here for information.

Which meant...

Adrian could use him for information too.

"Fine."

Adrian picked up his phone.

"Let's discuss."

Lucien smiled.

"I knew you would."

"The Genesis Point system."

Lucien said.

"Your thoughts?"

Adrian answered immediately.

"The academy intentionally created inequality."

Lucien didn't look surprised.

"Why?"

"Because pressure reveals people."

Adrian placed his phone on the table.

"Give someone unlimited resources and you learn nothing."

"But restrict resources..."

He looked toward Class D.

"You see their true behavior."

Adrian continued.

"A controlled environment where resources are limited creates predictable reactions."

Lucien listened carefully.

Adrian counted on his fingers.

"Class D will form desperate alliances."

"They will group together because they need protection."

"Some will sacrifice their own points for others."

"Some will betray their friends when survival becomes more important."

Lucien nodded.

"And Class S?"

"They will become arrogant."

Adrian looked toward the luxury section.

"They have enough points to ignore consequences."

"They will believe their position proves superiority."

"And that confidence will make them careless."

"And everyone else?"

Adrian's eyes narrowed.

"They will fight for advancement."

"People don't hate losing."

"They hate watching others win."

"Students will betray each other for points."

"They will justify it by saying it's necessary."

Lucien was silent.

Then...

He disagreed.

"No."

Adrian looked at him.

"No?"

Lucien shook his head.

"The academy isn't testing whether people become predictable."

"Then what?"

Lucien looked around the cafeteria.

"The academy is testing whether people become selfish when they have power."

Adrian leaned back.

"Explain."

Lucien pointed toward Class S.

"They gave us luxury."

"They gave us more resources."

"They wanted to see what we do with them."

A pause.

"Do we keep everything for ourselves?"

"Or do we use our advantages to help others?"

Adrian looked unimpressed.

"Helping others doesn't create perfection."

Lucien smiled.

"Maybe that's where we disagree."

Lucien continued.

"I think the academy believes power reveals character."

"Someone with no power cannot choose kindness."

"But someone with power..."

He looked toward the expensive food.

"...can."

Adrian shook his head.

"You're assuming people are naturally good."

"No."

Lucien smiled.

"I'm assuming people are complicated."

"Class D doesn't need someone to control them."

Lucien said.

"They need someone to give them a chance."

Adrian stared.

"So you're going to help them?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

Lucien answered simply.

"Because I can."

For the first time...

Adrian looked slightly annoyed.

"That is a terrible reason."

"Why?"

"Because emotions influence your decisions."

Lucien laughed.

"And you think removing emotions makes decisions better?"

"Yes."

"Even if it makes you unable to understand people?"

Adrian didn't answer.

The silence between them grew.

Two different beliefs.

Two different answers.

Neither willing to move.

Lucien finally stood.

"I guess we'll find out."

Adrian looked up.

"Find out what?"

"Which one of us is right."

A small smile appeared.

"You believe people become predictable under pressure."

"I believe people can surprise you."

He walked away.

Then stopped.

"Adrian."

"What?"

"Try not to underestimate humans."

Adrian looked back.

"Try not to overestimate them."

They walked in opposite directions.

Neither angry.

Neither convinced.

But both interested.

Because for the first time...

They had found someone who could challenge their beliefs.

Meanwhile...

Victor Kane was having a very different problem.

His phone displayed:

Genesis Points: 300 GP

He stared.

A normal person would panic.

Victor smiled.

"Perfect."

A student beside him looked confused.

"Perfect?"

"You have 300 points left."

"I know."

"You're almost broke."

Victor nodded.

"Exactly."

The student looked even more confused.

"How is that good?"

Victor leaned back.

"Because everyone watches the person with money."

"They don't watch the person without it."

Victor had spent almost everything.

Not on food.

Not on luxury.

Not on himself.

Information.

He had bought rumors.

Schedules.

Student profiles.

Class weaknesses.

Everything he could find.

Most people thought he was wasting points.

They were wrong.

His phone showed his current network.

Victor Kane's Connections

Class S:
5 students

Class A:
2 students

Class B:
12 students

Class C:
4 students

Class D:
3 students

A student asked:

"Why do you need people from every class?"

Victor smiled.

"Because everyone sees a different part of the board."

"You think you're going to win?"

Victor shook his head.

"No."

The student looked surprised.

"Then what?"

Victor looked at the academy building.

"I'm trying to understand the game before everyone else knows there is one."

"Everyone is focused on rankings."

"Class S thinks they are safe."

"Class D thinks they are trapped."

"Everyone is looking at the obvious problem."

Victor smiled.

"I'm looking at the invisible one."

"What invisible problem?"

Victor didn't answer.

Because he didn't know yet.

And that was exactly why he was collecting information.

That Evening

All students received a notification.

The entire academy froze.

The Genesis Academy logo appeared.

Then...

Headmaster Elias Crowe appeared on their phones.

"Students."

"The first week has revealed interesting results."

Images appeared.

Class rankings.

Point usage.

Social connections.

The academy knew everything.

Crowe continued.

"Some students spent their points on comfort."

"Some spent them on information."

"Some spent them on relationships."

"Some spent them foolishly."

A pause.

"All decisions reveal something."

Then...

The message appeared.

FIRST MONTHLY GAME BEGINS TOMORROW

The students became alert.

Crowe continued.

"The purpose of this game is simple."

"Determine which class has the greatest potential."

A second message appeared.

CLASS PERFORMANCE WILL BE EVALUATED

INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE WILL BE EVALUATED

"You will be judged as a class."

"And you will be judged as individuals."

A smile appeared on Crowe's face.

"Some of you will rise."

"Some of you will fall."

"Some of you will discover you were never meant to compete."

The screen went black.

One final sentence appeared.

LET THE GAMES BEGIN.

That night...

Nobody slept easily.

Class S prepared to prove their superiority.

Class A prepared to challenge them.

Class B searched for opportunities.

Class C searched for survival.

Class D searched for hope.

Adrian looked at the city lights outside his window.

Lucien looked at the same sky from a different building.

Victor looked through every piece of information he had collected.

Three different strategies.

Three different philosophies.

Three different players.

Tomorrow...

The first real battle would begin.

And Genesis Academy would finally see...

Who understood the game better.

The person who controls the board.

Or the person who controls the players.
