What counted as a surprise?

Only the unexpected.

From the moment Helena had taken a room with him so casually despite being untouched before, Damon knew her family and identity had twisted something in her. She had a self-punishing impulse and a desire to wound her father through herself.

But he had not expected the gag.

Her figure was not as balanced and slender as Laurel's, and her beauty did not have Catwoman's cold, exquisite sharpness. But Helena carried a rebellious, wild, extreme edge that drew Damon in strongly.

He pulled Helena to him and lost restraint.

The storm came hard.

When it finally passed, Damon held Helena as if he owned the room. She was exhausted but still excited, and he looked at the little item she had taken off.

"What made you buy this?"

"To stop myself from talking in my sleep."

Helena looked at Damon.

"If I tell you I have been investigating my father's crimes, would you believe me?"

"Yes."

Damon nodded without hesitation.

"You really believe me?" Helena sounded suspicious. "You are not just humoring me, are you?"

Damon chuckled.

"You are overthinking it. You are not my girlfriend, so I do not have that obligation. The world is full of strange things. You are not the only person who wants to take down a parent. It is not that shocking."

Helena stared for a moment, then asked with expectation in her eyes, "Then will you help me?"

"No."

Damon refused cleanly.

"I have no interest in your family grudge."

"..."

"I really did overthink it."

Helena's voice drifted low. Her brows drew together, and difficulty and hesitation surfaced on her face.

She regretted telling him her secret.

What if he leaked it?

What if her father caught him and he betrayed her?

Looking at Damon's indifferent expression, Helena's eyes filled with pleading and hope.

"If I become your lover and let you do whatever you want, and I also give you a large amount of money, will you help me? I will not ask you to take risks. I only need you to cooperate with me and make my father pay what he owes."

Damon considered it seriously for a moment, then shook his head.

"Still not interested."

"Is that so?"

Helena sighed in disappointment.

"I did not want to do this, but I cannot allow any accident in my plan. So... I'm sorry."

"Somebody help! Someone broke into my room!"

Helena suddenly shouted in panic and rushed toward the door with frantic, unsteady steps.

Bang.

The two bodyguards outside rushed in immediately.

They froze when they saw the disheveled young mistress and the unfamiliar man in her room.

Who was he?

How had he gotten in?

What had he done to her?

Seeing the bodyguards freeze, Helena shouted angrily, "What are you standing there for? He forced himself on me. Under your protection, he forced himself on me. Kill him. Kill him!"

What?

The young mistress had been assaulted?

Why had they not heard anything?

If the boss learned that his daughter had been violated in her own home while they were guarding her, what would happen to them?

The two bodyguards did not dare think about the consequences. Fury took over, and they opened fire at Damon.

Bang. Bang. Bang.

Bullets tore toward him.

Hidden behind the bodyguards, Helena's expression flashed with sadness and pain.

She realized she had begun to like this mysterious, fearless man who did whatever he wanted with her.

'I... did not want this.'

But the expression on her face soon shifted into shock.

She stared in disbelief as Damon dodged the bullets with a smile at the corner of his mouth.

How was that possible?

At such close range, two accurate gunmen were firing at the same time.

How was he avoiding them?

Click. Click.

The guns ran empty.

The two bodyguards stared down at their weapons in a daze.

How could that happen?

Were the guns fake?

Damon stepped between them in a blur and punched them both in the stomach.

In an instant, it was as if their insides had been overturned by a speeding truck. They grunted, eyes rolling back, and their large bodies collapsed to the floor.

"You really do keep surprising me."

Damon stood in front of Helena with a smile.

Helena snapped back to herself and swung a punch at his face.

Looking at the face that had been pleasing him not long ago, Damon smiled and avoided the blow. His knee drove up in the same motion.

Helena folded like a shrimp, her features twisting in pain.

"Too slow."

Damon grabbed her shoulder and threw her over his back.

Thud.

Her body hit the floor hard. Helena felt the world spin as pain forced her to curl and roll.

Rapid footsteps sounded from the stairs.

The gunshots had drawn the rest of the villa's security.

As the guards rushed up and raised their weapons, Damon calmly lifted one finger.

Crackle.

Electricity raced through the air. Blue light flashed brilliantly.

The stun gun's maximum current had only been around one hundred thousand volts.

But with Infinite Stacking, tenfold.

The lightning instantly swelled.

A million volts became a giant electric serpent that roared toward the stairwell.

Crackling explosions sounded as the serpent rushed down the stairs. The air immediately filled with the scent of scorching.
