Chapter 9:

The Trust War

Checkmate

The second month had officially begun.

But for the students of Genesis Academy...

It felt less like a new beginning.

And more like the beginning of a war.

The morning started normally.

Almost too normally.

Students walked through the academy halls.

Some laughed.

Some discussed the new rankings.

Some acted as if nothing had changed.

But everyone was thinking about the same thing.

The next Game.

The first Game had been about secrets.

It had exposed personalities.

Who was selfish.

Who was trustworthy.

Who was willing to sacrifice.

Who was willing to manipulate.

Now the academy had a new question.

Not:

"Who is the smartest?"

But:

"Who can create something greater than themselves?"

At 10:00 AM...

The bell rang.

Every student immediately headed toward their assigned classroom.

Some entered rooms they had never stepped inside before.

Others returned to familiar seats.

But nobody entered with the same confidence as before.

Class S

Adrian Vale sat near the window.

The biggest difference was obvious.

The room had changed.

New students.

New personalities.

New problems.

Maya Kisaragi had entered Class S.

Victor had moved to Class A.

Daniel had left.

The balance of power had shifted.

A student whispered:

"So what happens now?"

Another answered:

"We win again."

But nobody sounded convinced.

Adrian noticed.

A month ago, Class S believed winning was natural.

Now...

They understood winning had to be earned.

Across the academy...

Other classes were experiencing their own changes.

Class A

Victor Kane looked around his new classroom.

Different people.

Different resources.

Different expectations.

A student approached him.

"So you're the businessman everyone talks about."

Victor smiled.

"I assume that's a compliment?"

"Not necessarily."

The student sat down.

"People say you use everyone."

Victor nodded.

"They aren't wrong."

The student looked surprised.

Victor continued:

"The question is whether being useful is a bad thing."

Class B

Lucien Ardent experienced the opposite.

Instead of suspicion...

He received attention.

Students wanted advice.

Students wanted to work with him.

Students wanted him as a leader.

And that worried him.

Because influence was dangerous.

The moment people depended on you...

You became responsible for their failures.

Class D

Elias Noctis remained exactly where everyone expected him not to be.

Class D.

The highest-ranked individual student.

Still in the lowest class.

A student walked past him.

"You're strange, you know that?"

Elias looked up.

"Why?"

"Anyone else would have taken promotion."

Elias returned to reading.

"Most people choose what looks valuable."

"And you?"

"I choose what is useful."

Nobody understood.

But they were starting to learn.

Not understanding Elias was becoming normal.

12:00 PM

The second bell rang.

A message appeared on every student's phone.

ALL STUDENTS REPORT TO YOUR CLASSROOM GAME TWO INFORMATION RELEASE

The conversations stopped.

Everyone knew.

It was beginning.

Inside every classroom...

The teacher stood at the front.

A large screen appeared.

Professor Voss looked at Class S.

"Today, I will explain your second Game."

She paused.

"The game officially begins tomorrow."

Students listened carefully.

"The first Game was designed to measure individual intelligence."

"The second Game is different."

The screen changed.

GAME TWO THE TRUST WAR

Several students immediately reacted.

Trust?

After Blackmail Files?

That was dangerous.

Professor Voss continued.

"The objective is simple."

"A perfect human cannot exist alone."

The room became silent.

"Humans require cooperation."

"Leadership."

"Communication."

"Trust."

The screen displayed:

TEMPORARY KINGDOM SYSTEM

"Each class will become a nation."

Students stared.

"You will receive:

Resources.

Territory.

Citizens.

Hidden objectives."

A map appeared.

Four different territories.

"The goal is to build the strongest kingdom after seven days."

A student raised his hand.

"How do we win?"

Professor Voss smiled.

"Excellent question."

The screen changed.

THREE PATHS TO VICTORY ECONOMIC VICTORY Gain the most Genesis Points.

Several students immediately looked toward Victor.

Everyone knew.

This was his battlefield.

Professor Voss continued.

SOCIAL VICTORY Achieve the highest loyalty rating.

Everyone looked toward Lucien.

Another obvious match.

Finally...

STRATEGIC VICTORY Complete hidden missions.

Everyone understood.

This was Adrian and Elias' territory.

But then...

Professor Voss revealed the twist.

"The academy will determine the winner using only one victory condition."

The room went silent.

A student frowned.

"Which one?"

Professor Voss smiled.

"You will discover that at the end."

Shock.

"So you're saying..."

"We could spend seven days building an economy..."

"And it might not matter?"

"Correct."

"Then why tell us the three ways?"

Professor Voss answered:

"Because humans reveal themselves when they don't know what matters."

Silence.

"Some of you will chase money."

"Some will chase loyalty."

"Some will chase hidden objectives."

She looked around.

"But the question is..."

"Who will understand what the academy truly wants?"

TEAM ASSIGNMENTS

The next screen appeared.

"The temporary teams have already been decided."

Immediately...

Everyone became nervous.

The academy would not allow perfect alliances.

That would be too easy.

The teams were designed to create conflict.

CLASS S

Team Leaders:

Adrian Vale

Maya Kisaragi

CLASS A

Team Leaders:

Victor Kane

CLASS B

Team Leaders:

Lucien Ardent

CLASS D

Team Leaders:

Elias Noctis

But then...

A second message appeared.

SPECIAL RULE LEADERS MAY REQUEST ONE MEMBER FROM ANOTHER CLASS

Everyone froze.

A leader could steal a valuable player.

Professor Voss smiled.

"Choose carefully."

"Your strongest ally may be someone you cannot have."

Immediately...

Everyone looked at the four geniuses.

Adrian looked toward Elias.

Elias looked back.

They both understood.

The academy wanted them to compete.

But also wanted them to consider cooperation.

Victor looked toward Lucien.

A small smile appeared.

Because they both understood the same thing.

Their alliance was now a target.

The classrooms exploded with discussion.

Plans.

Arguments.

Predictions.

"What victory condition is real?"

"I think economy."

"No, loyalty."

"The academy is obviously testing leadership."

Everyone had theories.

Nobody had answers.

That was the point.

Outside the classrooms...

Adrian and Elias met briefly.

"The academy created uncertainty."

Adrian said.

Elias nodded.

"Because certainty creates predictable behavior."

Adrian looked at the map.

"The dangerous part is not the kingdoms."

"No."

Elias replied.

"It's the people inside them."

A pause.

"Trust is difficult to measure."

Adrian said.

"Exactly."

Meanwhile...

Victor and Lucien had their own conversation.

"The academy created a game where my strength and your strength are obvious."

Victor said.

Lucien nodded.

"Which means they expect us to rely on them."

Victor smiled.

"And that means..."

"They are hiding something."

Everyone had reached the same conclusion.

The Trust War was not about building a kingdom.

It was about discovering what kind of leader they truly were.

That night...

The academy lights stayed on longer than usual.

Students prepared.

Plans were created.

Alliances were negotiated.

Promises were made.

But nobody knew something important.

The academy had already predicted their first moves.

Because Genesis Academy wasn't watching the kingdoms.

It was watching the humans building them.

Tomorrow...

The Trust War would begin.

And for seven days...

Every student would discover the hardest truth about leadership.

A kingdom does not fall because it lacks power.

It falls because the people inside stop believing in it.

The first day of the Trust War began.

And for the first time since entering Genesis Academy...

Students were not walking into a classroom.

They were walking into a battlefield.

At exactly 10:00 AM...

Every student's phone displayed the same message.

GAME TWO: THE TRUST WAR DAY ONE KINGDOM CREATION PHASE

No countdown.

No dramatic explanation.

Just one sentence.

Choose your kingdom carefully.

Because everyone understood what that meant.

The people standing beside them for the next seven days could determine everything.

Inside each classroom, the students gathered around their desks.

The teachers had already explained the basic rule.

Each class would become a nation.

Every student in that class would become a citizen.

But...

Each kingdom was allowed to select one additional member.

One person.

From another class.

A representative.

A specialist.

A weapon.

The academy had intentionally created this rule.

Because the first decision of every kingdom revealed its values.

Would they choose intelligence?

Leadership?

Trust?

Or power?

CLASS S

The atmosphere inside Class S was tense.

Everyone expected Adrian Vale to make the decision.

And everyone was right.

Professor Voss stood in front of the room.

"You may select one student from another class."

"Once selected, that student will temporarily join your kingdom."

"You cannot force them."

"They must accept."

Several students immediately began discussing possibilities.

"Lucien would be valuable."

"No. Victor."

"Victor is already in Class A."

"Then Elias."

The room became quiet.

Everyone knew Elias was the obvious choice.

Adrian sat silently.

He listened.

He analyzed.

Then he spoke.

"Elias Noctis."

The room froze.

Even though everyone expected it...

Hearing it confirmed was different.

A student asked:

"Are you sure?"

Adrian looked at him.

"No."

The student blinked.

"No?"

"I am not sure."

A pause.

"But he is the highest-value option."

The message was sent.

REQUEST SENT CLASS S REQUESTS: ELIAS NOCTIS

Everyone waited.

Across the academy...

Elias' phone vibrated.

He looked at the notification.

For several seconds...

Nothing changed on his face.

A student beside him asked:

"What did they choose?"

Elias answered:

"Me."

The classroom became silent.

Everyone expected him to accept immediately.

After all...

Adrian and Elias working together was terrifying.

But Elias asked one question.

"Why?"

The student looked confused.

"What do you mean?"

"Why does Adrian want me?"

The student laughed.

"Because you're the strongest player."

Elias shook his head.

"No."

Everyone looked at him.

"Adrian does not choose people because they are strong."

"He chooses people because they are useful."

A pause.

"And that means he sees something coming."

Elias accepted.

CLASS S KINGDOM ADDITIONAL MEMBER: ELIAS NOCTIS

The academy had its first major alliance.

CLASS A

Meanwhile...

Victor Kane faced a completely different problem.

Class A had resources.

Intelligence.

Ambition.

But they lacked something.

Unity.

Victor looked around the room.

Everyone wanted to be chosen.

Everyone wanted the opportunity.

A student asked:

"Who are you picking?"

Victor smiled.

"Someone obvious."

Everyone assumed he meant Lucien.

They were wrong.

REQUEST SENT CLASS A REQUESTS: MAYA KISARAGI

The room became surprised.

Maya looked at the notification.

"You chose me?"

Victor nodded.

"You understand leadership."

"And?"

"You understand competition."

Maya considered.

She knew Victor.

He never made random choices.

She accepted.

CLASS A KINGDOM ADDITIONAL MEMBER: MAYA KISARAGI

Now Class A had two dangerous minds.

A strategist.

And a negotiator.

CLASS B

Lucien Ardent's decision was the most unexpected.

Everyone expected him to choose Adrian.

Or Elias.

Or another genius.

Instead...

He chose someone almost nobody considered.

A student named Noah Williams.

Average grades.

Average physical ability.

No special reputation.

Everyone was confused.

"Why him?"

Lucien smiled.

"Because everyone else is choosing weapons."

He looked toward Noah.

"I need someone who understands people."

Noah looked surprised.

"Me?"

"You are the person everyone talks to."

Lucien explained.

"You notice things others ignore."

Noah accepted.

CLASS B KINGDOM ADDITIONAL MEMBER: NOAH WILLIAMS CLASS D

Finally...

Everyone waited.

Elias had left.

Meaning Class D needed a new leader.

The class looked toward Ryo Takahashi.

Ryo immediately shook his head.

"No."

Everyone looked surprised.

"No?"

"I don't want to pretend I'm something I'm not."

Then another student stepped forward.

A girl named Aria Vane.

Quiet.

Observant.

Someone who had ranked low in the first Game.

"I'll do it."

The room became silent.

Ryo looked at her.

"Why?"

She answered:

"Because someone needs to make decisions."

Class D accepted.

CLASS D KINGDOM ADDITIONAL MEMBER: ARIA VANE

The selections were complete.

Now...

The real game began.

KINGDOM ASSIGNMENT

The teachers gathered every class outside the academy.

A massive map appeared.

A digital world.

Four territories.

Four nations.

Professor Voss explained:

"Each kingdom will receive three things."

The screen displayed:

RESOURCES TERRITORY HIDDEN OBJECTIVE

"Your classmates are your citizens."

"Your territory determines your starting advantages."

"Your resources determine your initial development."

"And your hidden objective..."

She smiled.

"...is something only your leader will know."

Immediately, everyone became cautious.

The leaders stepped forward.

CLASS S KINGDOM

Territory:

Northern Mountain Region

Advantages:

High defensive position.

Rare resources.

Difficult transportation.

Resources:

8,000 Genesis Points

Advanced technology center

Limited food production

Adrian analyzed immediately.

Strong defense.

Weak economy.

A deliberate imbalance.

Elias whispered:

"They want conflict."

Adrian nodded.

CLASS A KINGDOM

Territory:

Central Plains

Advantages:

Trade routes.

Large farmland.

Balanced resources.

Resources:

10,000 Genesis Points

Trading facilities

Transportation network

Victor smiled.

A perfect economic position.

Almost too perfect.

CLASS B KINGDOM

Territory:

River Valley

Advantages:

Population happiness bonus.

Water resources.

Resources:

7,000 Genesis Points

Strong communication system

Agricultural advantage

Lucien looked around.

Interesting.

The academy gave him the territory designed for cooperation.

CLASS D KINGDOM

Territory:

Desert Border

Everyone expected disappointment.

Until the details appeared.

Resources:

3,000 Genesis Points

Unknown ruins

Limited supplies

Hidden locations

The room laughed.

Class D had the worst starting position.

Again.

But Elias, who was watching from Class S, smiled.

Because he noticed something.

The worst territory had something none of the others had.

Unknown information.

The academy had given Class D uncertainty.

And uncertainty was valuable.

Hidden Objectives

The leaders were given sealed envelopes.

Only they could open them.

Adrian opened his.

His expression didn't change.

But Elias noticed.

"What is it?"

Adrian closed it.

"Interesting."

Victor opened his.

For the first time...

His expression changed.

Lucien opened his.

He became quiet.

Aria opened hers.

And immediately understood.

The hidden objectives were not simple missions.

They were tests.

The academy wasn't asking:

"Can you win?"

It was asking:

"What will you sacrifice to win?"

The teachers stepped back.

"Kingdom creation is complete."

"Tomorrow..."

"The Trust War officially begins."

The students looked at their territories.

Their resources.

Their citizens.

Their leaders.

For seven days...

They would build.

Trade.

Negotiate.

Compete.

Betray.

And somewhere behind the academy walls...

The observers watched.

Because the real question was never:

Which kingdom would become strongest?

The real question was:

When victory requires sacrifice...

Who will their citizens choose to follow?
