Chapter 1:
Awake and Lost
PROTECTION AND RESEARCH AGENCY
WORLD INTRUSION INCIDENT 7-2026
The following is a transcription of a journal found within Halargia by Magical Huntress Kishio Ruka and Magical Huntsman Arikawa Yoshiro, both of the Yokosuka Division, on July 18, 2026. This was found with a pile of belongings left abandoned by a then-unknown magical huntress who got lost in Halargia after a battle. The only changes made are spelling and punctuational corrections. Everything else is exactly as it was written.
This is the seventh incident involving a World Intrusion this year among the Agency. Any instance of a magical huntress or huntsman getting lost, or a civilian entering into Halargia, is referred to as a World Intrusion.

BEGINNING OF RECOVERED JOURNAL
…
Day 1, 8:47 PM?
If anyone finds this, my name is Kashimoto Michiko. I’ve been lost in Halargia for about nine hours now. As of me writing this, I’m stuck somewhere on a beach next to a forest.
I was trying to hunt down a Class Two magical beast that had crossed into my world and killed a family of three when I got trapped here. By the time I found the beast and killed it, the portal back to my world had already vanished, and now, I’m trapped.
I can’t afford a portal generator, at least not yet, and I don’t have any service on my phone here for obvious reasons. The only bright side is that I had gone into battle while still wearing my school uniform and a backpack, and when I de-transformed, I found that I had a portable phone charger, a bottle of water, and some snacks left in my bag, plus a vial of repel dust I bought a month ago. It’s not much, but it’ll help me survive, even if only for a little while. I’ll save the repel dust in case I really need it. I can’t afford to waste it on a weak magical beast I could kill by myself.
I’m heading north, at least according to the compass on my phone, I am. I have no idea how directions work in Halargia, considering the only time I ever have to go here is to hunt a magical beast that managed to slip through a portal. I hope I’m able to find a way out soon.
My parents must be so worried right now.
…
Day 2, 1:10 AM?
I’m hunkering down for the night. I found a small cave by the beach. Sometimes, water gets in here, but it’s not too bad. The good news is that the water is actually pretty nice. I took a bath of sorts by jumping in. I almost was about to jump in my underwear when I remembered there’s no one else here, so I just stripped bare. The water felt so nice. If I wasn’t trapped in this world, I would honestly have a pretty good time swimming along the beach, preferably with an actual swimsuit around other people.
I’m about to head to sleep. Here’s hoping I don’t get interrupted.
…
Day 2, 7:19 AM?
I actually managed to get some sleep. I got dressed back into my clothes and I’m gonna be heading west. I can’t drink the water in the cave or at the beach. It’s just as salty as ocean water back on Earth. Anyway, I’m heading out.
…
Day 2, 5:22 PM?
I had to battle a pack of small animals today. Obviously, they’re not classified, but if I had to categorize them, I’d say they were all Class Four or Five. I killed three of them with my sword and the other two fled. I’m not gonna bother going after them when finding drinkable water takes priority.
After hours of walking and testing the water I found that wasn’t obviously stagnant, I finally found some drinkable water. I had a small sip and built a fire using a matchbook and some papers from my bookbag. I may have ditched some notes I took, but I don’t care as long as I survive. I also don’t really care about the quality of the water as long as it tastes fine. Any sickness I get I could just take care of when I get out of here.
And I will get out of here.
I can only imagine how worried my parents and my friends are now. It’s rare that I miss a day of school, and I’ve never done so without telling anyone what’s wrong. I wonder if Kasumi-chan or Tazuna-chan are looking for me. They’re both magical huntresses, too. Hell, I wonder if Hiroto-kun is looking, too. We haven’t always gotten along since the three of us have fought for territory against him, but even he would be worried that I’ve been gone this long.
I hope anyone finds me soon, but especially any one of those three.
…
Day 3, 12:24 AM?
Going to sleep for the night. Found a part of the stream I’m next to that’s just big enough for me to go in and took a dip. The water is a bit colder, but it’s hot out, so it’s not bad at all.
I’m glad the weather is basically the same as it was back in Shizuoka. I would be so screwed if I ended up in winter here in Halargia. I am not at all dressed for it, even with something as relatively covering as my school uniform.
Actually, do they even have winter here? Or any actual seasons for that matter?
Whatever the case is, I doubt I’ll be sticking around in Halargia long enough to witness any potential seasonal changes. I sure hope I don’t.
…
Day 3, 4:09 AM?
God damn it. I got woken up by a magical beast. It gave me a tougher time than I thought it was going to. I got covered in its blood, and I got a cut of my own. I had to wrap it up the best I could with a small part of my magical huntress outfit that got torn up. Surprisingly, the part I ripped off stayed in place even after I de-transformed.
The magical beast looked like a antler-less deer, but when it opened its mouth, it had sharp teeth. Very sharp teeth. The bastard also spat out some kind of acid that burned through a few plants. I’m lucky I didn’t get burned by that thing. It tried to hit me with its hooves a few times, hence explaining the cut I got.
I ended up cutting off one of its forelegs and then beheading it. It’s dirty work, but it needs to get done. It’s definitely nothing like the magical girl anime you see on TV. Sure, we transform and have pretty outfits, but at the end of the day, we’re killing aggressive animals who are seemingly only interested in hunting people and animals in our world.
Enough philosophical shit. I’m going back to sleep.
…
Day 3, 8:03 AM?
Woke up again. I had to remake the fire pit I had since that magical beast from the night before destroyed it. I’m getting more tired. I want to sleep more, but I keep getting awoken by animals, probably smaller magical beasts. I probably shouldn’t stay in this one spot much longer, but I don’t really know where to go next. My best bet would probably be to follow the stream.
I miss my mom and my dad. I miss my friends. Hell, I even miss Hiroto-kun, as annoying as he could be sometimes when we fought.
…
Day 3, 1:23 PM?
Man, I’m hungry. I’m down to the last few bits of snacks I have. My only other choice at this point is to actually find a magical beast that won’t turn into dust long enough for me to eat. Can you even eat a magical beast? They have plants with fruits on them, but who knows if they’re poisonous or not.
I walked further up the stream and found it ran into a bigger stream. I jumped into the water again. It’s getting pretty hot, even hotter than it was when I first got here. There’s some rips on my school uniform now. I’m sure that will piss someone who works at the school off, but I’d rather have a ripped uniform than be dead.
I gotta say, the forest is actually really beautiful. If I wasn’t lost and running the risk of dying every moment I was here, I wouldn’t mind a nice stroll through the woods wherever in Halargia I am. My phone is somehow still alive, and I just managed to get the portable charger down to three lights instead of four. I’m actually kinda proud of myself for resisting the urge to have it out a lot.
…
Day 4, 1:09 AM?
I’m so God damn pissed off at myself.
I heard a battle going on nearby. I waited too long, and by the time I reached where the battle had happened, whoever was there was gone. They had just left through a portal that vanished right when I got there. I was so angry I punched a tree several times and cried.
All I found was a dead magical beast. I managed to cut off some meat from it with my sword and take it back. Once again, I built a fire and cooked it. The meat was… Okay. I didn’t taste anything off with it. Thankfully, the magical beast had died less than half an hour before I got there, so it was far from rotten, and any bacteria or whatever on it was probably killed by the fire.
At least I hope it was.
Maybe I’ll find out in a few hours.
…
Day 4, 6:46 AM?
Well, I found out.
I didn’t puke, but it sure as Hell came out the other end.
I’m just glad I managed to get all my clothes off before I had to go. Thankfully, there was a pond that was already stagnant nearby. It’s not like any waste from my body is gonna make it even more unsafe to drink than it already was.
After that, I took another dip in the bigger stream. I sure hope the current takes anything on my body down far enough that it won’t affect the drinking water.
It should be over now. I’m going back to sleep for a little bit. I’m so tired.
I miss my mom and dad.
…
Day 4, 8:00 AM?
I only got an hour of sleep before I got attacked again. This time, I barely avoided getting a leg broken by another magical beast. The bastard charged right at me. If I hadn’t woken up and moved when I did, I would have been crushed. Its one foreleg grazed my left leg and left a bit of a scratch on it.
I killed it, but decided against cutting it up for meat before it disappeared into dust. I’d rather not have another stomach issue while I’m here. At least I’m not hungry anymore.
My backpack survived, so I’m not totally screwed yet. I’m gonna walk as far as I can today.
…
Day 4, 11:03 PM?
I can’t sleep. I walked to the point my feet began to bleed a bit, so I had to stop. I tried to go to sleep, but I began crying instead. I can’t even cry myself to sleep.
I want to go back so bad. It’s only been four days. At least I think it has.
God damn it, I can’t even tell how long it’s been since I got lost here for sure.
Mom, Dad, I’m so sorry if I ever hurt you guys or made you upset. I love you both so much.
Kasumi-chan, Tazuna-chan, you two are the best friends a girl could ever ask for. I love you both so much.
Hiroto-kun, you’re not a bad guy. I know we’ve bickered before in battles, but I don’t actually hate you. If I get out of here, I want to be able to meet with you, not as magical huntress and magical huntsman, but just as regular people.
Please, someone find me soon. I want to go home.
I want to go home.
I want to go home.
I want to go home.
I want to go home.
God damn it, I need to go home.
…
Day 5, 12:03 PM?
I must have lost it last night. The pages look like they got wet. Did I toss this journal in the water and fish it out?
I can barely remember last night. I’ve officially ran out of the last snacks in my bookbag. I’ll have to rely on meat from magical beasts again.
The good news is that the larger stream got even bigger, and there’s now even a kind of pool where I’m at next to a small waterfall. I was able to shower the best I could in the waterfall. The water is really nice, and it doesn’t taste bad at all.
Even so, I hope I get found soon. I need to go home. I could just as easily find a place like this in rural parts of Shizuoka deep in the mountains.
Well, probably.
Either way, I’d prefer to enjoy sights like this in Japan, not in Halargia, and especially not by myself.
I need to go home.
…
Day 5, 10:50 PM?
I was able to kill a small magical beast roughly the size of a dog. The meat tasted a bit better than the last time after I cooked it over a fire, so perhaps I won’t have any stomach issues. I’m honestly shocked I was able to start a fire given that it rained earlier in the day, albeit for not too long.
On a more embarrassing note, I nearly wiped out when looking over the waterfall a few minutes ago. I just barely avoided falling off when I slipped on a rock in the water. To be fair, the height was only about three meters, at most four, but I’d rather not break something in this environment considering such an injury can’t get fixed here.
I’m going to sleep. The waterfall helps conceal a small cave that I’m gonna rest in. I’m tired.
…
Day 6, 6:47 AM?
I got woken up about an hour ago by a roar. I tried to look through the waterfall, but I couldn’t see what made the sound. I got ready for a battle, although I felt a bit weak considering I haven’t eaten a whole lot. Whatever made that roar was larger than the magical beasts I’ve fought up to now. After about half an hour of waiting, I heard rustling, followed by whatever it was making that sound running away. It hasn’t come back.
I’m gonna go back to sleep for a bit. This cave isn’t all that bad.
…
Day 6, 9:14 AM?
I haven’t gotten sick nor is anything coming out the other end if you know what I mean, so maybe I struck the jackpot with that meat I ate the day before. I’m gonna head out soon.
I still wonder what that thing was this morning. Its roar was… Unusual. It sounded like it was echoing despite it not being too far away from the cave, if that makes any sense, like it was two roars stacked on top of each other. On top of that, the rustling was accompanied by some weird slithering sound.
I didn’t get a chance to see whatever made the sound, but I don’t mind it staying that way.
I’m heading upstream.
…
Day 6, 3:00 PM?
My phone is running super low. It will probably die soon. When that happens, I won’t be able to tell what time or maybe even what day it is.
This is getting scary. It feels like I’m being watched everywhere I go, no matter how far I make it up stream. I don’t think I could fight i-
…
Day 6, 4:47 PM?
I got interrupted because I swear to God I heard something in the distance. It sounded like a person, but at the same time, it didn’t feel human. I stuck around a bit to see if I could hear it again, but all I got was a roar similar to the one I heard before.
At that point, I jumped up and ran. My legs and my feet hurt so much, but I kept running. I probably have blisters on my feet, but I haven’t checked, nor do I really want to check. I just need to keep going.
I need to find someone else soon who can get me out of here before I die. I’ll either get ripped apart by a magical beast, starve to death, or fall off some ledge or cliff I can’t see in the dark like I almost did the night before.
…
Day 7, 1:25 AM?
This will be the last entry with a timestamp. My phone and my portable charger are officially dead. I can no longer use the compass or the clock. It’s also now been a week, or at least I think it has.
Unfortunately, it’s raining, so some of my stuff is getting wet. I’m covering up this journal the best I can, but I imagine the pages will get a bit blurry.
I heard a similar roar to what I heard outside the cave. Please don’t tell me that thing followed me.
As I’m writing this, I can hear it again. I need to go.
I think I can maybe see it too. It looks long. I can’t make out its facial features too well since it’s still a good distance away, but it definitely has a longer neck than usual. I was able to get a photo of it in the distance with my phone before it died. Shockingly, it didn’t notice me or the shutter sound.
I’m gonna go.
…
Day 7?
I can’t tell what time it is, but it’s dark out now. I spent the whole day walking along the stream to get away from that thing, but I guess it didn’t work.
That thing definitely followed me. I’m getting ready for a fight, but whatever this is, it’s scaring the Hell out of me.
I’ve never been this afraid in my year-long journey of being a magical huntress. Whatever this thing is, I feel like it would be a Class Two or even a Class One back in my world. The biggest thing I’ve killed by myself is a Class Three. I’ve only ever killed one Class Two, and that was with help from Kasumi-chan and Tazuna-chan.
In other words, in a one on one fight, my odds aren’t good. In fact, I’m probably screwed.
I had been saving that vial of repel dust I bought a month ago in case of something like this. I used half of the vial, and it seems to have chased the thing away for now.
I miss my family so much. I need to go home.
…
Day 7?
It’s night time again. I spent the day staying in one spot for a change. I’m too tired to really move a whole bunch at this point.
I used up the last of the repel dust. I hope that thing doesn’t come back.
I’m tired, and I want to go home so badly.
…
Day 7 or 8?
I don’t even know what day it is anymore since it’s late at night. It’s either the seventh or eighth day.
I can’t get back to sleep. I’m too scared.
God, I hope that last bit of repel dust works.
I’m gonna try to get some sleep. Wish me luck.
Mom, Dad, if I don’t make it, I love you. I’m so sorry I can’t be there anymore. Please, forgive me for dying before you do.
…
Day 7 or 8?
Oh God, it’s back.
It’s back.
It’s back.
It’s back.
I can hear it.
I can hear it so close to me.
My sword is by my side, but I don’t know if it will help.
Mom. Dad. I’m sorry.
I’m so sorry.
Please forgive me.
Somebody. Anybody.
Help me.
Help me.
HELP ME!
HELP ME!

END OF RECOVERED JOURNAL
…
Upon booting up the phone that was found at the encampment, it was discovered that it had been about a day since the last journal entry, which appears to have been interrupted partway through.
Through the phone and the journal, the magical huntress was identified as Magical Huntress Kashimoto Michiko, a year-long veteran of the Agency from the city of Shizuoka. We have gotten into contact with the other magical huntresses and sole magical huntsmen mentioned in the journal, who have been identified as Magical Huntress Ushiyama Kasumi, Magical Huntress Watanabe Tazuna, and Magical Huntsman Kawai Hiroto. All three of them expressed deep emotional distress due to Kashimoto’s disappearance, and told us they last saw her the day she disappeared.
The following is a description of eleven photos and two videos taken by Kashimoto.
…
The first four photos were taken on the first day of Kashimoto being lost. All are of the beach she was on when she crossed through the portal. It’s believed she took them as reference for where she was.
The next two were taken on the third day. They are of the forest around Kashimoto, with the last being a selfie of her. It’s believed she took these both to identify herself in case her phone got separated from her, as well as because of her praise for the beauty of the forest around her that she mentioned in the journal.
The next three were blurry photos taken on the fifth day. It is unknown why the photos were taken or what they’re of.
The last three were taken on the last day her phone had a charge. All three contain the magical beast that followed her. The beast in question had two mouths, a rather long and seemingly prehensile neck, and very short legs. It is unknown why the magical beast, which we have retroactively classified as a Class One, did not notice or attack her after the last photo was taken despite it showering its face.
Both of the videos on the phone were taken on the first day, and are of the beach Kashimoto found herself lost on. There is nothing remarkable about either video otherwise.
All in all, it appears that Kashimoto sparingly took photographic or videographic evidence of her journey in order to save battery life on her phone and her portable charger. However, it is likely she used the flashlight and the camera function to see, even if she did not take photos or videos with it.
…
On July 20, the informal group of magical huntresses and one huntsman that both Kishio and Arikawa belonged to ventured into Halargia under Agency supervision and with Agency permission. It took them about three hours to find Kashimoto, and another hour to extract her.
Kashimoto was found in a delirious state, and had suffered an infection from several wounds she had received in what we were able to determine was a fight she most likely got in with the Class One magical beast she encountered at the end of her journal. She had sustained a broken arm, a broken ankle, and several deep cuts to her legs and abdomen. She was quickly rushed to a hospital and treated for her injuries and her illnesses.
On July 25, after five days of not being able to communicate with her since she was in a near-catatonic state, we were finally able to talk to her. Agency investigators interviewed her, and the following is a transcript of that interview. The names of the investigators have not been disclosed, and will be only identified as 1 and 2 in this transcript.
…
Investigator 1: Hello there, Kashimoto-san. I’m glad that you’re recovering.
Kashimoto: Th- Th- Thank you.
Investigator 2: We’re here because we need to ask you a few questions about what happened to you in the week that you were gone. Everything from this point forward is being recorded for documentation purposes. Now, to start, we want to know about the battle leading up to you going into Halargia.
Kashimoto: What do you want to- To- To-
Investigator 1: Take your time. No need to rush.
Kashimoto: What… What do you want to kn- Kn- Know?
Investigator 2: We understand that the magical beast in question was a Class Three and it had killed several people beforehand. Was it actively harming anyone or had it taken anyone when it went through its portal back to Halargia?
Kashimoto: No.
Investigator 1: Have you ever crossed into Halargia before?
Kashimoto: Once. It was- was-… It was scary.
Investigator 2: So you were not familiar at all with Halargia or any other world the magical beasts come from, correct?
Kashimoto: No.
Investigator 1: Why did you chase it into Halargia?
Kashimoto: Huh?
Investigator 2: We asked you why you chased it.
Kashimoto: Well- Well- Well-… I… It killed three people. It ki- ki- killed a young boy. I couldn’t let that slide. I just… I just… I just couldn’t.
Investigator 1: So you were driven by revenge?
Kashimoto: Yes. I was ang- angry.
Investigator 2: When did you realize you were lost?
Kashimoto: I… I went to the exact spot… The exact spot whe- whe- whe- where the portal was. The exact spot… And it was gone. I looked so much for it, but I was go- go- gone.
Investigator 2: During your days in Halargia, what kind of magical beasts did you encounter?
Kashimoto: I… They were… Uh… They were all normal. It was easy to de- de- deal with them… But the last one.
Investigator 2: The last one being the Class One?
Kashimoto: Yes. That one.
Investigator 1: Did you encounter any other magical huntresses or huntsmen?
Kashimoto: On one of the days… I just missed so- so- some of them. If I had just been a little faster, just a little bit faster, I would have ca- ca- ca-… I would have caught up to them. I was livid. I was so mad at myself.
Investigator 1: When did you realize you were being followed by the Class One?
Kashimoto: At the waterfall. I heard… I heard growling one morning. I couldn’t see it, but I could hear it.
Investigator 1: Your last journal entry says that it was coming for you. What happened?
Kashimoto: I… It was so scary.
Investigator 2: Take your time.
Kashimoto: I pulled out my sword, but… I couldn’t even fight it. I just ran. I ran, I ran, I ran, and I ran. It terrified me. Every time I close my eyes, I can still see its face as it attacked me. I still don’t know… I don’t know why it didn’t kill me.
Investigator 1: What did it do to you? Can you remember at all?
Kashimoto: It looked in- in- in- in-… It looked in my eyes… I could feel it loo- loo- looking into my soul. I felt pain. My head hurt when it locked eyes wi- wi- wi- with me. I screamed. I just screamed. It hurt. It hurt so much.
Investigator 2: Did you sense anything? Like… Did you see anything in your mind?
Kashimoto: I just saw my life… It flashed before my eyes. It’s like it was opening up my mind. It felt li- li- li- like it was op- op- op- opening my head. It felt like it was pulling my sku- sku- skull open. I stood there until it all went da- da- dark. I don’t remember anything else until I was found.
Investigator 1: So what you’re saying is that this Class One has the ability to somehow establish a psychic link to a victim to debilitate it?
Kashimoto: I guess… I guess.
Investigator 2: Thank you for answering our questions. Get well soon, Kashimoto-san. Do you have anything for us?
Kashimoto: Don’t look. Don’t look.
Investigator 1: Huh?
Kashimoto: Don’t look. Don’t look. Don’t look. Don’t look. Don’t look. Don’t look. Don’t look.
Investigator 1: [Name of Investigator 2 Redacted], get a nurse now!
Kashimoto: Don’t look. Don’t look. Don’t look. Don’t look. Don’t lo-
Investigator 1: Holy shit!
Investigator 2: We need help! Something happened to Kashimoto-san!
…
At the end of the interview, Kashimoto Michiko began to have some kind of panic attack that led to her screaming very loudly after incessantly repeating the phrase ‘don’t look.’ This led to her thrashing around in her bed. As hospital staff tried to restrain her, she suddenly screamed that her chest was hurting before going into cardiac arrest.
Despite the best efforts of doctors, Kashimoto Michiko was pronounced dead at 2:21 PM. However, the incident was not yet finished.
At 5:57 PM, while other hospital personnel were trying to load her body up for removal from the hospital’s morgue, a slithering sound was heard in the body bag containing Kashimoto’s remains. The bag was opened, and out jumped a small magical beast that quickly bit onto the leg of a man who was moving the body. The bite resulted in third-degree burns to the leg from a caustic acid that the magical beast had in its saliva, resulting in the leg being amputated from the knee down. The magical beast then suddenly generated a portal on its own and jumped through it before it could be caught.
Shortly after this, Kashimoto’s body self-combusted, resulting in her remains partially turning to ash before the fire was extinguished. It is unknown how this magical beast got into her body, how it went undetected, or why her body burst into flames.
…
Kashimoto Michiko’s family was properly compensated for the death of their daughter. Due to the sensitive nature of the incident, they were sworn to secrecy to never reveal the true nature of the incident to the public. A cover story about a car accident and an undetected heart condition aggravated by it was created to explain her disappearance and eventual death.
The man who had his leg amputated was also compensated, with a cover story of a workplace accident being created to keep the incident a secret to everyone outside of the Agency and his immediate family. He has been given the highest-quality prosthetic leg the Agency can find and finance, and his prognosis is reported to be great when one considers what he went through.
It is currently unknown if the Class One seen in the photos or mentioned in the journal has ever crossed through the portals into our world. Any instance of it from this point onwards will get all magical huntresses and huntsmen within a fifteen kilometer radius notified due to the extreme danger this magical beast poses. All magical huntresses and huntsmen are to be notified of this creature and are to take extreme caution.
