Chapter 2:
Goddess Of Etherdawn
[Chapter 2]
As she stepped outside, Ethan heard loud cheering and realized it was coming from the Champerstow. Curious, he asked Catrina, "What's happening?"
She replied, "People are signing up for Champerstow."
Excited, Ethan said, "I’m going to sign up. Bye!" and ran off.
The Champerstow announcer began explaining the games: "The Champerstow is not just about raw power but also skill and intelligence. Before the actual games start, we'll test your strength, speed, and other relevant abilities!"
Ethan, eager and hopeful for a good reward at the end, listened attentively.
At the Champerstow, the first test was the strength hammer, a high striker. Ethan recalledplaying something similar in Earth carnivals and decided to go for it. He picked up the hammer and, with his infinite stats, effortlessly hit the bell. The bell didn't just ring—it shattered into pieces. The crowd stared in disbelief as the announcer yelled, "New record! Never seen anything like this before!"
One of the event organizers, puzzled by the broken equipment, examined it. Turning to Ethan, he asked, "Did you break this hammer?"
Ethan, slightly nervous but trying to maintain his composure, replied, "Yeah, sorry about that. I guess I don’t know my strength."
The crowd, sensing something extraordinary about Ethan, buzzed with excitement. Whispers of "Is he a new champion?" and "Did you see that? He broke the bell!" filled the air.

[Armor District.]
After an intense day at the Champerstow, Ethan returned to the Armor District with his newfound reputation starting to precede him. People pointed and whispered as he passed by, clearly recognizing him from the games. He felt a mixture of pride and awkwardness at the sudden attention.
Ethan's thoughts were interrupted when Catrina, who had been overseeing the games from afar, approached him. She had a smirk on her face as she said, "Looks like you made quite the impression back there, champ."
Ethan chuckled, "Yeah, I guess I did. But what happens next?"
Catrina's expression turned serious, "The games are just the beginning, Ethan. There's a lot more at stake here than you realize. The Purelands might seem peaceful, but there's tension brewing beneath the surface. That's why your presence here is so important."
Ethan frowned, "Tension? What kind of tension?"
Catrina hesitated, glancing around to make sure no one was listening before lowering her voice, "The EtherDawn nations have been at odds for years, and some believe war is inevitable. The Purelands have managed to stay neutral, but it's only a matter of time before we're dragged into the conflict. We need allies, strong ones. And I think you might be just what we need."
Ethan processed her words, the weight of his situation beginning to sink in. "I didn’t ask to be a part of this," he said quietly.
Catrina placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder, "I know, and I’m sorry. But you're here now, and whether you like it or not, you're going to have to make a choice. Will you stand with us, or will you turn away?"
Ethan stared at the ground, lost in thought. His old life seemed so far away now, like a distant memory. Everything had changed so fast, and he wasn’t sure if he was ready for what lay ahead.
Finally, he looked up at Catrina, determination hardening in his gaze. "I don’t know what the future holds, but I’m here now. And I’ll do whatever it takes to protect the people who need me."
Catrina smiled, "That’s the spirit. Come on, let's get you equipped with some more gear. We have a lot of work to do."
[Later...]
The two spent the rest of the day preparing, with Catrina showing Ethan the ins and outs of the Armor District's best equipment. As they visited various shops, Ethan marveled at the sheer variety of weapons and armor on display. From swords forged with magical flames to shields that could deflect even the deadliest of spells, it was clear that the Purelands took their defense seriously.
As night fell, the city began to quiet down, and Catrina led Ethan back to her office. They reviewed the day's events and discussed strategies for the coming days. Exhausted but focused, Ethan listened intently, absorbing every detail.
[Champerstow.]
Ethan wandered through the busy streets of Champerstow, trying to wrap his head around his new surroundings. The city buzzed with life, and the air was filled with the sounds of bustling crowds and vendors shouting their wares. He had been through some strange places before, but Champerstow felt like a different world altogether.
As he walked, Ethan couldn't help but notice a large crowd gathered around a series of game booths. Curious, he approached one of the games, where a massive hammer and a bell stood as the main attraction. A sign read "Test Your Strength!"
Ethan grinned, remembering playing something similar in Earth carnivals, and decided to go for it. He picked up the hammer and, effortlessly, hit the bell. The bell didn't just ring—it shattered into pieces. The crowd stared in disbelief as the announcer yelled, "New record! Never seen anything like this before!"
