The oath that changed my life

It was finally the day people have been waiting for, Kuro the second born son of the Akira itoshi, one of the most well renowned man in the kingdom of Thesaurussia and one of the King's friends, has turned 15 . It's a tradition that everyone who reaches the age of 15 must take the power that the statue will bestows them.
Kuro was kind of late so he had to wait in line for his turn, Tomoka standing behind him was waiting for this moment all her life

Tomoka: Do you know what power I'll be blessed with? I hope it's one that will make my life easier.

Kuro : like turning everything you touch into gold? 

Tomoka : how I'm I supposed to hug anyone with that power? 

They both laughed but Tomoka could tell that something was wrong with Kuro.

It was his turn to take his blessings, many people of high importance were watching including the King and his father, but was it fear? Was it doubt? Was it treason? Kuro did not take his blessings and instead ran away to everyone's shock. That was the beginning of his problems. 

The name "Kuro itoshi" became a taboo in the kingdom of Thesaurussia, everywhere he went he was shamed, humiliated or mocked for refusing the supernatural power that the statue was going to bless him with. His father disowned him for bringing shame to his name and sent him out of the house. Kuro did not mind, in fact, Kuro did not care at all, he had his fear and he believed that death is worse than rejection.

Kuro saw the horrors of death, even though Thesaurussia never failed a war for their great power, many still died while protecting their kingdom. People with weaker power were often used, disposed and forgotten by everyone. Thesaurussia was rich and blessed with power, but no amount of magic was going to fix or help the broken people of Thesaurussia, he doesn't see the use of giving his life for such people and he didn't feel like him owned anyone an explanation.

Tomoka was the only one who didn't attack him for his decision but one day  she finds the courage to ask him the question without answers.

Tomoka : Kuro, why did you reject the gift? 

Kuro : The fear of death, nothing more nothing less. 

Tomoka : what about the humiliation and rejection, doesn't it hurt you? 

Kuro : your opinion on me is what truly matters Tomoka, as you can see, I'm living peacefully in the forest, nature gives you all that you need. 

Tomoka : well that's reassuring. 

Kuro : how was it today at the magical high school? 

Tomoka : it was great, though controlling your emotions cause it could make you bend an element is very hard, I'll look like a heartless person.

Kuro : well if you do master it, I know you'll be fine just don't burn down my home. 

they both laughed and had a good time until it was Tomoka's time to leave.

A month later, Kuro was going to hunt rabbits for lunch when suddenly, he heard a lady screaming. He went towards the noise and took a peek, the lady was running for her life as a giant monstrous looking wolf was running after her. Kuro decided to ignore the lady in need and walked away but, the monstrous wolf bite her leg, her agonising scream broke Kuro's heart, so even though it was foolish, he decided to help her.
Kuro threw a rock at the monster to turn his attention towards him, the monster ran after Kuro while Kuro was taking him towards the trap he set up for bears, the monster, unknown to him, fell in a large hole full of poisoned spikes, killing the monster instantly.

Kuro rushed towards the woman and tried to take her to the hospital, Kuro was ready to be mocked for his past actions but he refused to let the woman die but, the lady stops him.

The lady : there is no need to save me, my soul is leaving and my life is failing.

Kuro : what do you mean, it's just a injury, if I take you to the hospital, you'll get cured.

The lady : there is more to my suffering than a simple injury, my soul, my body, my life, there is nothing more to me Kuro.

Kuro : stop being so dramatic, and how do you know my name when you're clearly not from around here? You know what, this discussion is wasting my time and your life, let me get you to the hospital.

The lady : you don't understand what I'm talking about, I need your help Kuro.

Kuro : I hope no one blames me for your death, tell me what is your dying wish?

The Queen: I'm Eloise, Queen of the kingdom of Eglatine, no one can rule the kingdom without the ruler giving up her crown ( it's only then Kuro noticed the crown on her head ) take this crown and became the king of my people.

Kuro: Me?!?! Rule your your kingdom?!?! What kind of careless ruler gives their throne to a anyone, let alone a person from the opposite kingdom?

The Queen: is my decision reckless? Yes it is. But I rather have somebody else take it than the traitor who took my life away from me.

Kuro: my Queen you're making a big mistake, i don't have powers, I'm young and inexperienced, your kingdom wouldn't last long under my hands.

The Queen: fear not Kuro my spirit will be in the crown for a year before I leave, so I'll guide you if you help me protect my kingdom.

Kuro had nothing to lose, helping someone from another kingdom is death sentence to the kingdom of Thesaurussia. But at the same time how will he face Tomoka, his one and only friend? And ruling not just any kingdom, but the weakest kingdom among the 6 kingdoms in the Agate world will be such a huge responsibility. But Kuro sympathised with the Queen, letting a traitor rule your people was unacceptable.
In the end, Kuro fulfilled her wish and decided to become the ruler of Eglatine, and the lady closed her eyes to never open it again.

Everyone was shocked and horrified as Kuro left the city with the Queen in his arms, to bury her in her kingdom and his new home.
