Chapter 7:

Seven - The calm after the storm

After the Rain

Can I stay in this room for more two days unnoticed?

Can I star in this room forever?

Keep moving.

I have to save up my supplies.

I do not think this sandstorm was on the organization plans. This was supposed to be and quick and easy in and out mission. Now I am trapped here until the sandstorm stops.

Is it too risk to go out and spy around? How many people are here now trapped with me?

A deadline is a deadline.

I have to delivery my mission.

Back at the Capital we somehow failed.

I do not know what happened.

What if I fail too? Do they already know I am here? What if I already blew up everything?

No!

Keep moving.

I think is going to be my motto for this mission.

I am here, so there’s no turning back now.

The power-plant room is actually not far away from where I am at but it must be a better guarded room than this one. The helmet is not showing me if there are people around. This stupid helmet.

My body still hurts a lot. Can I fight in this conditions? I should take this whole day to rest. Now I do not have my cloak either. It will be very dangerous to escape after.

I do not know if the time is passing too slow or too fast now. I take off the armor. It reliefs my body. I rest a little bit my eyes.

This time is a weird dream.

Maybe I am turning clairvoyant.

Maybe I am just too anxious.

In the dream I was back at one of my past missions. One of my firsts. A rescue mission. After joining the group I did only small things. Dropping letters and supplies, spy for days and take notes, follow people but never engage.

But this one... this one was my first big mission. I would go into action.

Usually we do not contact with other people. We act alone. We do not know who the others on the organization are, on purpose. If one of us get captured, the enemy can not read our minds and find our weakness nor our identities. That is why we do not even have names. We abandon everything for the greater good. So if a person gets caught, either they find their way out alone or they are left to die.

A rescue mission is something very uncommon to happen. But I guess some people are that important to the greater cause.

This guy name was Judith. The oldest person alive. Something around two-hundred years. He was very famous for it. Everyone wanted to know his secret, his magic to continue going for so long.

Naturally, no one has lived for that long.

If the Council got hold of his secret, they would probably use on themselves so they could rule the world forever. Or worst, they would sell to people. This would break the balance. No one should live forever.

In and out missions had became my specialty. I am small and agile. Go inside. Find something; destroy something; or steal something; than get out. But having to carry another person is different. You have to think of their safety and how you can get out with them. He was a slow old man.

Maybe while living forever, he should have thought a way to not let his body get old too.

I had to fight tooth and nail my way out.

That was the first time I had to do away with people.

It was not a pretty job.

I finished the mission. I delivered him at the checkpoint. A couple days later he was no more.

Ironically.

I also imagine it had to be the organization doing. They probably thought it was for the best. He was too dangerous to keep bearing his existence. Or maybe I am imagining things and it was just a big coincidence after all.

I wake up. I am still safe.

I look at the helmet. The map finished echo locating the base. It is finally time to act.

I do not feel that much more rested. But it is what it is. I put back the armor. It is heavy but it protects me.

The plan is simple.

I am underground. Floor minus one. The power-plant is yet two floors down. The fortress have some vents I can crawl to get down there. But first I need to incapacitate some guards. I can not just walk there and destroy everything. And also, it is a power-plaint. I have to be outside when it explodes or I will die.

I will go explore a little bit more through the vents. Check some places above. Find my escape route. I also need and access permit to open the doors. They can not know I am here. Kicking doors is not exactly a solution.

I will go up first. Get the a key card. Check the courtyard. Check the parking lot. Maybe check the supplies room if I have time. Go down. Get in the power-plant chamber and make it self destroy. I have some explosives with me if need them too. And get out.

If I am lucky I can find a car or a sand bike to help me escape faster.

I eat the rest of my food and I am ready.

Keep moving.
