Tanimaki and the Dragon Hunt (Part 2)

“Oh, how adorable!”

Mashu couldn’t help but exclaim.

“Where are your mom and dad?” Mayutan asked with a gentle smile.

“They’re not here. I’m the innkeeper.”

But no matter how you looked at him, he was clearly just a kitten.

“What do you mean? Why is a child like you running the inn?”

Mayutan said, looking at the kitten.

“Almost all the grown-ups were taken away by a dragon... Pwease help us...”

The kitten’s eyes brimmed with tears, as though they might spill over at any moment. The sight alone was enough to make one’s heart ache.

“There, there. It’s okay. Can you tell us exactly what happened?”

Mayutan knelt down so that he was at eye level with the kitten and spoke to him gently.

According to the kitten, a huge dragon had suddenly attacked the town three days earlier and carried off nearly every adult it could find.

“Is there really not a single adult left?” Mayutan asked.

“There’s one. Miss Bianca. She works at the library.”

“I see... Then we should definitely speak with Bianca and hear what she knows,” Mayutan said.

With only a child’s account to go on, some of the details were bound to be unclear.
