Chapter 47:
Harry Potter: Legacy of House Gaunt
This was an unexpected gain.
Maybe Celestia could help ease the tension between Cho and Hermione.
Edmund beckoned for the two girls to come forward.
"Celestia, these are my good friends. They would like to meet you. Is that all right?"
He stroked Celestia's horn while asking for her permission.
A unicorn's horn could sense good and evil. Celestia clearly felt that neither girl meant her any harm, so she nodded gently.
Her large blue eyes looked at them like a clear lake.
Both girls melted at once.
Cho approached slowly and spoke in the softest voice she could manage.
"Celestia, may I touch you?"
After a brief hesitation, the unicorn nodded.
Cho looked almost reverent. Excitement colored her face as she gently placed a hand on Celestia's back and closed her eyes in bliss.
Hermione watched eagerly, clearly longing to try, but she was too embarrassed to ask.
Edmund noticed her hesitation and encouraged her.
"It is all right, Hermione. You can try too."
Hearing him say that, Hermione copied Cho and began stroking Celestia as well.
Soon, the two girls became familiar with the unicorn. The three of them played together on the grass, and the relationship between Cho and Hermione eased considerably.
Edmund watched with satisfaction.
As expected, Celestia was his lucky star. She had helped him a great deal today.
When the sky gradually darkened, Cho and Hermione reluctantly said goodbye to the unicorn, and the three of them returned to the Great Hall.
...
Two months passed in this way. Final exams drew closer, and Edmund's alchemy encountered a bottleneck.
One night, he lay in bed with his hands behind his head, frowning at the ceiling.
"No. The dormitory does not have enough space, and if anything goes wrong, it will be too easy for someone to notice."
His alchemical experiment had already reached its final stage.
There had been two explosions before. Edmund's reaction had been quick enough to suppress the noise both times, but the arrangement was still not safe.
After thinking for a long time, he still could not find a good solution.
Then inspiration struck.
The Room of Requirement.
How had he forgotten such a perfect place?
Edmund slapped his forehead in annoyance.
Without hesitation, he cast a Disillusionment Charm on himself and went to the seventh floor.
Then he froze.
He remembered that the Room of Requirement was on the seventh floor, but he did not remember its exact location.
Fortunately, he remembered the condition for entry. He could test it slowly.
So he began trying wall after wall.
At last, across from a tapestry, he succeeded.
'I need a room where I can conduct alchemical experiments.'
When he finished silently repeating the request for the third time, a door appeared in the smooth wall.
Edmund knew he had found the Room of Requirement.
He pushed the door open and entered.
In the middle of the spacious room stood a long workbench covered with tools.
The sight amazed him.
He could not yet understand the room's principles, but it certainly contained aspects of Legilimency and spatial magic.
Edmund did not dwell on it. He opened the trunk he had expanded with the Undetectable Extension Charm and took out various materials and tools.
He wanted to make assistants for his magical research.
The assistants did not need to be powerful. They only needed to help him handle repetitive tasks.
The difficulty lay in their intelligence system. He had already refined the outer shells and prepared the energy system. The greatest problem now was how to perfectly transfer his knowledge into a processing core.
Fortunately, he already had a direction.
Eden's Realm.
When that spell was cast, each figure inside the constructed space had a degree of independence. They developed differently according to the caster's memories and magic.
For example, if Edmund shaped a shamelessly lecherous persona inside the dream, that persona would naturally drift toward improper fantasies without his interference.
Edmund modified the spell so that it could transmit selected knowledge and memories, then shape a persona inside Eden's Realm.
After that, he would permanently solidify the persona inside the assistant.
In that way, he could create something resembling artificial intelligence.
With the concept clear, Edmund began his experiment, repeatedly shaping memory constructs inside Eden's Realm.
It was a difficult process, harder than creating a new spell. What he wanted was a specific memory construct that could continue existing even when he was no longer maintaining Eden's Realm.
This would take time.
Edmund could only hope to perfect the method before the term ended.
