Chapter 9:

Lawless?

Sorin: The Forced Hero Who Wanted No Title

I certainly wasn’t expecting it to look like this.

Sorin comes out from the other side of the post, looking at the street in front of him. The entire place was made of rotting wood or metallic rust that looked like it came from a battlefield, which wouldn't be surprising if it did. The height stretched up over ten floors, with people walking about high above and below on bridges; there was chatter everywhere. It was more peaceful for a lawless city than expected.

The smell is horrible, but I think I can get used to it here. It is rather peaceful, but I suppose if people kill, then they should expect to get killed, so it's better not to kill overall. What a primitive way.

Sorin walked from street to street; he observed the food stalls whose fragrance was somewhat pleasant to his senses, the people working on random pieces of trash in an alleyway, and the bridges he started to go on towards the higher floors.

Getting to a vantage point is even better; I need to find a way to meet that girl. She will explain everything. And if she doesn't justify her answer, then she will be my first kill for all she did.

“I get the horrible taste of threat coming from you."

Sorin felt a pat on his back; the familiar voice instantly made him tense a bit. "It's almost like you can never appear at a good time."

Turning around, he saw the purple-haired girl in normal commoner clothing and her purple robe; she just stared at him with a huge grin. “I saved your life, idiot!”

"You're the reason you had to save my life! And why would you save me when you even wanted to frame me at the start?” Sorin lowered his head, rubbing it slightly.

The girl laughed, burying her face. “I was told to do that stuff; it's not like I care about you. Do you think everyone cares about your little hero thing?”

“Then tell me, who? I won't kill you if you do that."

Rather, I'm being merciful, but if she really took up this job, then I can assume the money is just as good as it seems for the difficulty, which was high considering what happened, climbing up to the top. She is one of a kind. But also that I would excuse her for that reason. Its unjust.

The girl just smugly grinned again. 'I can't tell you that; it's not like my job is over. Now you will be mine to steer into the future. The future of mages is all ours! Let's take new heights!”

“What are you actually talking about? Please just shut up before you make me want to kill you more than I do already." Sorin took out his staff from under his robes and pointed it at the purple-haired girl.

The purple-haired girl instantly recoiled in shock. "Are you seriously going to get rid of me? The only person who can offer the next amazing or most amazing of offers… Suit yourself! Oh dear world, I'm sorry for living so short; I have failed the continuation of my bloodline!”

"You're actually insane; just offer up whatever you want and I will consider my stance after."

Sticking around this girl for more than five minutes might end up with me somehow coming out with less than what I know. She's not only the most annoying person I have ever met, but does she even understand how serious this whole thing is?

"I, the great future of mages, will bestow upon you the gift of changing yourself into a hero once more! For the sole reason that I will bear your offspring…”

What…

Sorin’s jaw instantly drops to the floor. "I'm not having a kid! What even is that request? You just met me. And not only that, but why would anyone even want a kid with you? I reached the age of eighteen, but I'm in no position, especially now, to do this!”

“Fufu… This is why you mages are weak; the same age and yet you refuse…! I will reveal the secret of my bloodline to you, and you will be blessed with magic like mine; I will reveal my secret purpose. Let us talk more at my home!”

"I will come only if you promise me, that you will not harm me. And not pick up a single staff." Sorin didn't take a risk at all. He knew she was dangerous.

Without speaking another word but an honest nod, the girl started to jump away using her wind magic, still staffless. It was a feat he still couldn't grasp anytime she did, but he must hold on to the urge to ask.

Following her closely using his own wind magic, he jumped around from bridge to bridge, making sure to follow close enough to the purple girl while also avoiding the gaze of anyone below; the elevation of the city really helped in this case. He soon, in a matter of two minutes of endless streets that look all as dissolved as the last, comes to a stop at the very peak of the city. It was a small metal shack with no direct access, meaning only wind users could come up.

The inside was not much better; it had a metallic seating area with a table, a small kitchen, and one bed. It was the size of a small apartment room, but for one person, it was plenty enough. She took off her commoner clothing, making Sorin turn around.

“I forgot you were there; say something already, freak… Two minutes without a single question." She changed her commoner clothes and purple robes into a simple white tunic that hugs her slim body and garments that cover her legs to her knees like a skirt.

Sorin turned back around, hearing that she was done. “And maybe you should warn me before switching clothes? I will ask questions later, but I assume you know what they are."

“How do I use magic without a staff? Or how is it possible that I climbed a whole tower, or why…?"

Sorin rubbed his face. “Just get to the point. What do you want?”

“I will perfectly explain what I expect, young hero; just heed my words from now!” The girl sat on one of the chairs around her tiny shack as Sorin got onto the other. Just one remained empty near the table; their gazes swept across to each other. "Let's begin; first, you can begin by calling me Grand Mage!"
