Chapter 23:

Capolot

Sorin: The Forced Hero Who Wanted No Title

Fire rages from Sorin's staff; he focuses his eyes on the man's armour as he points his weapon down, leaning slightly onto it. “Go ahead, hero”.

As the blast leaves Sorin's staff, it destroys the ground, its aura burning the plant life instantly and the haziness covering the man's vision. He, however, did not move. The fire hit him directly, as expected, with Sorin studying everything that was happening. As expected, it just dissolved, but Sorin found one little detail that explains Ino's detail.

The armour takes a moment to absorb the magic; it isn't actually blocking it as Ino said. Maybe they changed it, but that would be even worse if I didn't know about this. I'm going to assume that energy can then be redirected straight into that weapon.

“Impressive defense spells!” He tried to sound as shocked as he could when the fire did nothing to the man. He widened his eyes, dropped his jaw, but the man just stared deadpan.

Grabbing his weapon again, it was slightly lit up. The theory Sorin made up holds up higher now. “Yes, you are correct; it absorbs into the armour. Quit with the theatrics." he then pointed the weapon at Sorin once more. “You are not made for acting, mongrel.”

“Maybe you're right. Should we get started with the actual fight then?”

“I will honour that request; call me Capolot. You deserve to know the name of the man who will kill you.”

Capolot, what sort of name is that? But it seems my acting was that easy to tell apart, huh, no matter. Wind and earth it is. I can consider fire as a way to direct or block his view of me, if anything, and water is perfectly useless.

Sorin grabbed his staff back up, and he instantly ran at Capolot, who pointed the weapon at him.

There is a little window before he can attack. I need to keep pressure. If I'm wrong, then the blast should be at least weak enough for me to react to based on the glow of the barrel.

Closing in on him, Sorin casts out a wind slash attack that cuts through the air, hitting Capolot, who got moved back just an inch. However, he was rather impressed. “Good call.” In reaction to Sorin's attack, he jumped back onto the roof of the shed. Sorin kept the pressure, using wind magic to close in.

This is good, I'm in range.

From the ground, Sorin used his magic to erupt a pillar up with him as he used wind magic to jump himself towards the pillar. Capolot quickly readjusted his weapon, the glow suddenly disappearing into nothingness as a new colour emerged: red.

Fire magic?

Sorin used the pillar of earth to block his entire front view as the fire blasted at the earth, turning it from dark brown into reddish brown. His eyes rotated towards the floor as he put up another earth pillar while maintaining the one blocking the fire. The earth then landed under his feet as Sorin used the platform to jump up above the wall, casting a fire spell.

Now with his view blocked, I took to the right and cast an earth attack again.

Sorin pushed out with wind magic; the wall blocking the fire now was no longer maintained by Sorin, quickly causing it to crumble as he took to Capolot's side. From the ground underneath, he spots some loose rocks. He focuses on the rock underneath, spinning it and increasing its velocity.

Capolot responds in kind, adjusting his weapon to point at Sorin as it begins to change from glowing to a pure white colour. He kept charging up the rocks and spinning them faster; the armour was tough. Risking taking a blow while giving nothing in return was a terrible idea.

They both charged their attacks until the two seconds hit. Sorin's chippings lashed out at multiple spots, primarily over his torso and upper body; his underbody was blocked by the elevation he stood at. The beam from the weapon also shot out in perfect aim towards Sorin's arm.

The chippings blasted through the armour, crashing into his body; he didn't waver, however. Blood seeped out; Sorin too took a hit from the beam, a massive hole in his wielding hand. The staff instantly was let go of, and that moment when Capolot saw the staff drop, he charged up a fire blast, gritting through the pain of the rocks within his body.

I'm so done!

He focuses his body magic onto his shoes, where he then ignores regulation completely to use wind magic. In an instant, his body gets launched tens of metres away from the barracks as he slams against a tree outside Farmouth. His eyes were directly staring at blood spewing out of his wound.

Capolot moved towards Sorin, who was lying motionless in utter pain; he quickly moved magic away from his hand, causing it to numb.

“Staffless magic, the only person I ever knew could accomplish that is Ino.” Capolot's movement was slowed; the rocks certainly in his body would get rid of most of his ability to move, but getting rid of Sorin was the task.

Sorin’s expression soured. “That's my master for you; Ino herself taught me this trick.”

“What a fool to follow such a witch; putting you out of your misery will only serve to hinder her as well. No wonder that magic from afar is so familiar.” He stretched out his weapon towards Sorin's head. “I will make it painless; you deserve my respect for nearly killing me.”

A small chuckle came out of Sorin. "I'm not done yet; your annoying yapping even helped me, if anything.” His hand stopped bleeding completely from the lack of magic circulating. Sorin took the chance to get up with a burst of wind magic with his other hand.

My entire arm is basically useless unless I wish to bleed out but I might have to do just that, he can barely move. I need one final hit to end it all.
