Chapter 33:
Sorin: The Forced Hero Who Wanted No Title
He silently sat; it wasn't clearly right for him. It would never sit right.
I refuse to kill someone. That's the one thing I should never do; once I start, then what? Will I start killing more? Will I become like Ino, who has no issue doing it for her goals? That isn't something I want.
“Poke” Chikaru put her finger into Sorin’s cheek. “I only put the warning out; it will happen. The probability to me is super high, but maybe you could fix that. You are already messing a lot of other things when you're with that woman. I can't read the room half the time.”
She then got up from the bed, and an orange hue appeared in the room; purple robes and dark purple hair flickered across like a star descending on a dark world. “Managed to kill a couple, four or so, but it's hard with so many people. At least that limits Boyle down to 16 people. We should be able to take him down next time.”
She killed four people… That's a lot; I can't even manage to kill one. And to become like her, I can't imagine my life being happy if that happens, sounding miserable, to go around killing.
Sorin locked onto Ino’s face; she did the same back to him.
I don't see a hint of warmth I felt looking at my reflection. I see an abyss, just a devoid person who has goals of her own and seeks only her benefit. If I were to be the hero and also be a symbol, then I'm working with somebody that's completely against my mission.
A small blush appeared on Ino’s face. “Quit staring at me; it looks like you want to start already having at me! We're not ready yet.” Her teasing tone got higher; it was clearly her messing, but Sorin turned his gaze away.
“What's the next part of the plan? We got the commoners to at least see me as a viable helper for them.”
Ino quickly rushed over to the desk, slamming herself down on the chair. "That's exactly where a month of that time went away. I never told you in the letters, but the reason I don't want to continue writing books is that I have completed many pages of— knowledge!”
Walking over next to her, Sorin took a look also; his eyes scanned a page top to bottom that was lying on the desk. It had instructions and details about a spell: “Telepathic communication 101. What a name, but what does this accomplish?”
Chikaru butted in between them. “If high-tier mages use this spell to communicate, then this would allow low-level mages to hear them. That would mean total collapse of secrets in the future, and communication would be inconvenient. It's a massive step to destabilising."
The veterans did use such a method for communication with each other, and so did the instructor. So it's really that heavily embedded into everything. So anything Boyle would say out loud is for people like us and not his men.
“You're right, Chikari! That's the plan. And if at least one mage hears some secret info, then you should bet they will tell everyone. But this is only the first part; I will now do part two! The greatest mage of the present and future will make this come true.” She then put another page of paper onto the desk.
Sorin once again started looking at the page. “Tons of forbidden spells. Magic disruption. Magic manipulation, barrier magic, and basic foundations. This is all beginner stuff— Wait… Is this real?” he lost focus; even his balance became rough as he stumbled back. Looking over at Ino, only a wide smile came from her.
“The future of mages will be made by me. I will make every commoner into a mage, and all of them will learn magic disruption, magic communication, and foundations. They won't have any elements, of course, but I will forcefully activate their magic points around their body.”
Isn't she just insane? She's a lunatic, making everyone into a mage that would overturn the balance of the world. Not only will Acluraria become full of mages, but that would allow everyone in the entire world to be a mage— This isn't, no, this can't happen.
He darted his focus towards Chikaru; her expression was one of pure astonishment as well. She was just as surprised. Moreover, Ino planned this all out without her knowing, despite being in the same room.
Theoretically, it's possible to activate all magic points, but practically, did she figure it out somehow… she said it with absolute confidence; she said it with absolute certainty. No, it's true for sure, but what do I do about it? This can't happen. That would make everything off balance if everyone can disrupt each other. That would make chaos almost.
Sorin spoke up instantly, “Are you serious, Ino? You can't do this; that would ruin the entire plan in West Acluraria that we have done.”
Ino shook her head in response. “This will happen after you take control mostly, but I will have my closest people become mages so they can help me out on the surface.”
Chikaru then whispered, “No, that wouldn't be good. That would ruin everything in the last hundreds of years.”
“I want a place where magic is for everyone; it's not a bad dream to have. I am sick of this sort of innate talent! I want that chaotic fire to burn down.” She patted his shoulder before walking towards the door of the base.
That's insane, no, I can't just attack her now though. Maybe I'm overreacting, and she has another plan too. But I should still act somehow; both Chikaru and Chikaru are clearly displeased with it, and she knows.
Silence stretched across the base.
It's not immediate and will only happen after I take control; I should focus on understanding this plan and counteracting it. I still need her to work with me, however, even if just for a bit more. I was going to get some tea with the lady after a while. In a week, I will meet her.
“I'm going to go pay for someone to print these in the masses, just stay here while I go out!” With her words said, Ino jumped out. The room was left almost lifeless, but it wasn't because of her absence.
