Chapter 3:

Chapter 3

Hidden Tails: A LitRPG Slice of Life Adventure (Book 1 of A Fox's Tail)

(Nessira's POV)

Amidst the unyielding expanse of snow-draped vistas, I clung to the woman who bore the enigmatic name of Beom-seok Zhōu. Our footsteps traced a path along the road, each imprint a testament to our shared journey. The chill wind whispered secrets, and the world beyond remained veiled in frost-kissed mystery.

My gaze, ever watchful, shifted not only to the endless white horizon but also to the ethereal stat screen that hung suspended within my consciousness. There, etched in iridescent script, lay my own identity:

─ Nessira Kräutersalz

Race: Human

Primary Class: LVL 40 Salz Mage

EXP to next level: 10,025

Secondary Class: LVL 20 Scholar

EXP to next level: 2,129

Main Mission: You have found your soul mate. She is all you would want in a spouse. Unlock the enigma that is Beom-seok Zhōu and get her to fall in love with you. Time remaining: unlimited ─

The proclamation, both unexpected and profound, stirred the embers of my heart. Suitors, like pawns on a grand chessboard, had paraded before me—arranged by well-meaning hands, their titles and lineage meticulously cataloged. Yet, my spirit remained untouched, unyielding to the scripted courtship dances.

And now, this foxy woman—Beom-seok Zhōu—stood before me, her eyes harboring secrets older than the snow-cloaked peaks. I dared not speak aloud, lest the very frost crystals bear witness to my musings. “Mostrami le statistiche di Beom-seok Zhōu per favore,” I murmured, invoking my native tongue, Amorin. The veil lifted, revealing fragments of her essence:

─ Beom-seok Zhōu - Level: Unknown - Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

Chaotic, they said. A tempest of contradictions, a rogue comet streaking across the astral canvas. What cosmic forces had conspired to intertwine our fates? What celestial alchemy had forged this union?

As we trudged onward, the road winding like a forgotten saga, I vowed to unravel her heart—to decipher the cryptic runes etched upon her soul. For time, it seemed, was both my ally and my adversary: “Time remaining: unlimited.”

And so, amidst the snowflakes and the echoes of forgotten spells, I embarked on this quest—a royal endeavor, veiled in longing and spun from the gossamer threads of fate. May the gods favor me, for Beom-seok Zhōu was no ordinary suitor. She was the riddle that would unravel my very soul. Amidst the unyielding expanse of snow-draped vistas, I clung to the woman who bore the enigmatic name of Beom-seok Zhōu. Our steed, a noble creature with hooves that kissed the frozen ground, carried us along the road. Each rhythmic beat of its heart echoed my own, as if the horse itself sensed the gravity of our quest.

The foxy woman, Beom-seok Zhōu, rode with an otherworldly grace, her eyes reflecting the constellations themselves. I, Nessira Kräutersalz, Salz Mage and Healer, grappled not only with her enigma but also with the very essence of fate.

The snowflakes, like celestial messengers, carried missives from distant realms. And there, amidst the frozen expanse, I dared to speak the unspoken:

“Beom-seok Zhōu,” I addressed her, my voice a tremor in the icy air, “what cosmic forge shaped your spirit? What astral alchemy birthed your alignment—Chaotic Neutral—a dance of stars and shadows?”

She turned to me, her gaze a tempest of contradictions. “Nessira,” she murmured, her breath crystalline, “we are but pawns in a grander game. Our levels, our missions—they are but ripples upon the surface of eternity.”

Her words echoed through the snow-laden silence, and I wondered: Was she a sorceress, too, wielding powers beyond my ken? Or perhaps a celestial wanderer, cast adrift from distant realms? The stat screen, stubbornly cryptic, revealed nothing more:

─ Beom-seok Zhōu - Level: Unknown - Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

And so, we rode—a Salz Mage and a woman of cosmic intrigue—our destinies entwined like ivy upon castle walls. The mission, inscribed upon my heart, weighed heavier than any scepter or crown. To unlock her heart, to decipher the cryptic runes etched upon her soul—to make her fall in love with me—such was the quest laid bare.

“Time remaining: unlimited,” the proclamation whispered. But time, I knew, was both a boon and a curse. For in the shadowed alcoves of my thoughts, I wondered: Could love bloom beneath wintry skies? Could a Salz Mage and a Chaotic enigma find solace in each other’s arms?

As the road stretched onward, the snow yielding to our passage, I vowed to uncover her secrets. For Beom-seok Zhōu was no ordinary suitor. She was the celestial riddle that would rewrite the stars—a saga whispered across realms, etched upon the very firmament.

And so, hand in hand, we rode—a royal endeavor, veiled in longing and spun from the gossamer threads of fate. May the gods favor us, for our love was no ordinary magic. It was the alchemy of souls—a symphony played upon the strings of eternity.

As the sun ascended to its zenith, Luna carried us forward, her hooves imprinting the snow with each determined step. The landscape unfolded before me—a tapestry of frozen ocean and encroaching forest. The river, a serpentine vein, flowed into the icy expanse, its current weaving through shifting fragments of frozen time.

Zhōu, fair and enigmatic, dismounted Luna with effortless grace. Her hand extended toward me; a lifeline offered. I, in my nervous anticipation, accepted it with regal poise. She pulled me from the saddle, and I stumbled, unaccustomed to such vulnerability. The irony was palpable: she, petite and unyielding, cradled my fall.

And then, for the first time, I truly beheld her—Zhōu, with her foxlike eye, a molten gold that held secrets and scars. The wound etched across her delicate features spoke of battles fought, resilience forged. In that moment, I glimpsed the depth of her spirit, the enigma of her existence. In the delicate twilight of our encounter, I extended my hand toward her visage, a mere breath away from the porcelain canvas that framed her eyes. But before my touch could alight upon her skin, she posed a question—a command veiled in regal grace.

“Do you think you can set up the tent while I venture forth for ice fishing?” Her words, delivered with a regality akin to my own, hung in the crisp air. It was as if the very fabric of reality had shifted, allowing her to breach the boundaries of our roles.

I hesitated, caught between astonishment and duty. Her gaze bore into mine, seeking an affirmation that transcended mere language. And so, in a voice that echoed centuries of sovereignty, I replied, “Sì, posso.” Yes, I can.

Her nod was imperceptible, yet laden with understanding. “Very well,” she murmured, relinquishing the task to my capable hands. “I shall entrust it to you.”

And thus, beneath the watchful gaze of snow-capped peaks, I set about assembling the canvas sanctuary—a regal command fulfilled, a silent pact forged between two souls navigating the frozen expanse of destiny. Side note: Zhōu’s words, though delivered with a regal tone, held an almost normal quality—a paradox that intrigued me.

A few hours have passed since I was entrusted with the task of assembling the tent. Alas, my efforts resulted in nothing but frustration, and I found myself flinging my hands up in exasperation. Fair Zhōu, though her back was turned to me, seemed to sense my struggle. “Everything proceeding smoothly, Nessira?” she inquired, her tone befitting her regal stature. “No,” I lamented, my voice echoing my diminutive frustration. “May we exchange roles?” I implored, glancing over at her. To my surprise, she hovered above a broad, meticulously cut hole in the ice, a school of fish already floundering near the shoreline. Without averting her gaze from the hole, she responded, “Certainly, if you are willing to endure the chill upon your hands.” “You jest, surely?” I retorted, taken aback. “No jest,” she replied, her expression unwavering. Finally lifting her eye to meet mine, Zhōu declared, “Fear not—I shall manage it once I secure a few more. Perhaps a fire ring next?” In the dappled twilight of the forest, I chuckled softly at Zhōu’s playful remark. “Indeed,” I replied, my fingers deftly selecting a few sturdy sticks from the forest floor. “No need for the ‘fair’ label. Just Zhōu will do.” The rustling leaves whispered secrets as I continued my search, a sense of adventure tugging at my heart. Perhaps this humble tent-building endeavor would unfold into an unexpected tale of resilience and resourcefulness.

Yet, as I assembled my meager collection of sticks, reality settled upon me like dew-kissed petals. The sticks were uneven, their lengths disparate—some too short, others brittle and unwilling to bend to my will. The stones I unearthed were jagged, their edges unyielding. Despite my best efforts, they refused to interlock, defying my intent to create a stable shelter.

Zhōu observed from a distance, her eyes alight with amusement. “Perhaps,” she mused, her tone as mischievous as the forest sprites, “we should reconsider our architectural ambitions. Or perhaps, my dear companion, we shall simply slumber beneath the celestial canopy tonight.” Her laughter danced on the breeze, and I sighed, a blend of frustration and acceptance settling within me. “Sleeping under the stars it is,” I conceded, knowing that my tent-building odyssey had met its end before it truly began—a whimsical twist in the grand tapestry of our woodland escapade. I looked over to Zhōu to see her walking back to the shoreline, grabbing and launching the fish closer to Luna and I as she did. She got to the last fish before a rumble came out of nowhere. I cast my gaze upon Zhōu, her graceful form moving with purpose along the shoreline. Each step, deliberate and regal, spoke of ancient lineage and power. The fish, once mere offerings from the sea, now danced in the air as she flung them toward Luna and me. Her eyes, pools of wisdom, held secrets older than time itself.

But then, as if summoned by unseen forces, a rumble echoed across the water. The very earth trembled, acknowledging her presence. Zhōu turned, her expression unyielding, and faced the source of the disturbance. In that moment, she was not just a woman by the sea; she was a queen, a guardian of realms beyond mortal comprehension.

And as the last fish soared through the air, I wondered: Was it merely hunger that stirred the depths, or had Zhōu awakened something far greater? A force that defied the mundane, a legacy woven into the fabric of existence. The sea whispered its secrets, and Zhōu listened, her regal bearing unshaken.
