Chapter 15:
STERTH
Back in Weingrove, the halls of Brimor Academy were lively and cheerful, making Atsuo’s and Lord Kaiser’s absence feel unnoticed.
There were only four people who were actually worried about what transpired two days ago, and what happened to their fellow classmates.
Yuna, who was being bugged by her friends to stop worrying about it so much.
However, her worries stopped the moment she received the letter Lord Kaiser sent out just a few hours prior.
She was happy to hear that they were fine, and that they made some new friends along the way.
She couldn’t help but feel concerned about a couple of details like Atsuo’s accident, and the ‘obstacles’ they faced along the way.
That said, Lord Kaiser said that he will go into more detail about everything in another letter, so she was going to wait for it patiently and not make any scary assumptions.
Another surprise was the mentioning of the competition at Drezore Academy, in which they will be participating as Brimor’s representatives.
The thought of them working together made her wish she was there to see it.
Then, near the end of the letter, Lord Kaiser mentioned something about a message to Reyn and Dart.
Of course, Yuna knew the kind people they were and was glad to be of help in delivering Lord Kaiser’s words.
Thus, she put the letter back in the envelope and made her way to the Externus dormitory.
Meanwhile, another person who felt more ‘uneasy’ rather than worried was Taru. He had a hard time spending the school day with his best friend missing.
To cope with this tragedy, he started seeing Fumi more often.
And finally, there were Reyn and Dart, the two henchmen who were always at Lord Kaiser’s side.
Everyone else felt indifferent, or opportunistic about the incident.
The latter being the case for the other nobles in the Externus faction once Lord Kaiser went missing.
“I will take Lord Kaiser’s spot” some noble declared, “I feel I am the obvious replacement, and I know, deep down, so do most of you.”
Some people cheered, while others were staring at the entrance in fear.
“KNOW YOUR PLACE!” someone growled.
It was Dart. He walked inside the dorm with Reyn, stopping before the big audience.
“Some of you got too conceited the moment his Highness disappeared,” Reyn said looking around the room lividly.
“You were under the delusion that you could take his place,” he continued, “that is not the case.”
“If you really want to, transfer to Basfort,” Dart said, “but here in Externus, keep your mouth shut until Lord Kaiser returns.”
Singlehandedly, they shut down what was supposed to be an attempt to take advantage of Lord Kaiser’s absence, in mere seconds.
Everyone who was supporting the noble earlier, was now looking away, trying to avert their gaze.
“Dart, and I will take command until his Highness returns, until then you’re to obey our orders,” Reyn said sternly, “Underst–”
“Huh?! Who are you?” someone said from the entrance, interrupting Reyn.
They all looked around.
Reyn and Dart were left speechless. Speaking of Fortunatus… there she was, her ladyship Yuna, whom they all held in high esteem, getting scolded by someone from the Externus faction.
“WELL? WHAT DO YOU WANT?” he laughed, “SPEAK UP!”
“I–”
“WHAT?” he ridiculed her, pretending not to hear as he cut her off, “GET OUT OF HERE YOU BASFORT PIG.”
Reyn, incensed at the sight, stormed towards them, his steps reverberating across the whole dormitory.
In all his time, this was a first. He never thought he’d see the day where someone would treat the angel of the academy with such contempt.
Yuna saw Reyn approaching them, which made the stranger also look.
“Ah! Reyn–”
Before he could finish, Reyn took him from the side and, with a full swing, sunk his left knee right into the guy’s stomach, folding him in half and lifting him in the air from the impact.
The guy gasped for air from the hit, losing consciousness before even hitting the ground.
“Bring him to the infirmary” Reyn said, looking back at the people in the dorm.
He turned back around to Yuna.
“I’m very sorry your ladyship had to go through that” he said, bowing to her.
“Don’t be, I’m fine,” she responded.
“Though, are you sure you didn’t go a little… overboard?” she said concernedly, looking at the person sprawled on the floor.
“No,” Dart answered while walking over, “he’s lucky his Highness wasn’t here…”
“Not that his Highness is that kind of guy!” Dart quickly said, to which Yuna laughed.
“I know,” she smiled, “I actually came here because I received a letter from him.”
They looked up at her in shock. They sighed, feeling relieved that he was in good enough condition to send a letter.
She took out the envelope from her blazer and handed it to them.
“W– Wasn’t this meant for you, your ladyship? I can’t…” Reyn said hesitantly.
“He asked me to pass on a message from him, so part of it is addressed to you” she insisted.
Reyn glanced at Dart. They nodded and opened the letter, starting to read.
By the end of the letter, tears started welling up in their eyes.
“To think that his highness is perfectly fine and made some friends” Reyn sniffed.
“Yeah… Nothing could be better” Dart said, squeezing the bridge of his nose.
“Your ladyship, can you please tell his Highness that everything is fine here? And that we received the message?” Reyn asked Yuna.
“Of course,” she said brightly.
She waved them goodbye and went back to the Fortunatus dormitory.
As for Reyn and Dart… They followed.
The order from Lord Kaiser was to protect her ladyship in his absence. It was a highly important task that he could entrust only to them.
As such, they made sure to escort her to the dorm, while remaining unseen.
Upon arrival at the dorm, the two spotted Taru.
They called out to him, to which he started sweating and looking around, but eventually came outside.
“Basfort’s Taru, you’re her ladyship’s friend, right?” Reyn asked. Taru nodded.
“Since we are not Fortunatus students, we can’t stay here. You’ll have to take over and watch over her ladyship” he said.
Taru looked at them perplexed.
“Wh–”
“There’s a good reason for it,” Reyn said, “For now, just do as we say. Please. We’ll tell you later.”
Taru, still confused, nodded.
Reyn nodded back and, along with Dart, left for the Externus dorm.
Taru looked around at Yuna, wondering what happened to make them so worried for her safety.
He couldn’t come up with anything and went to pay a visit to Fumi.
As for Yuna, the moment she returned, she started writing a letter back to Lord Kaiser notifying him and Atsuo about what’s going on in Brimor, and that the message to Reyn and Dart was successfully delivered.
She went up to one of the staff at Brimor and had them deliver the envelope to Drezore Academy’s Lord Kaiser.
She looked at the sky from the academy’s main entrance.
‘May luck be with you’ she prayed.
