Chapter 35:
That month of yearning
What even is the point of this? As I take up another order of the cappuccino which was getting weirdly reordered a lot, my mind drifted of to Natsuki. As usual. Will she really be able to manage everything today? I really don't want to doubt her but ... I can't stop worrying about her.
"Here's your order! Rwaah!" Who even came up with the concept of adding dinosaurs to a cafe! I was embarrassed for couple of orders at the start, but feels like I have become accustomed to it now.
"Oh! Hey Saya nee-chan!" I turned around to notice a familiar face. The bubbly cheeks bouncing up and down like a jackhammer at work, sparkling eyes looking at something distant and supplemented with a clear voice.
"Oh hey Kokoro." I notice Natsuki's mom as well behind her.
"Good morning, ma'am"
"Good morning Saya. That is quite an attire you are wearing."
"Ugh, it's a themed cafe. I didn't quite have much of a choice"
"It looks good on you, nee-chan. Hopefully, nee-san also said a similar thing" The little gremlin smirked.
"Yeah" I couldn't say it confidently, as it looked like it was just lip service the last time. Ughhhh. At least not today. Don't be so negative all the time, Saya.
I helped Natsuki's family get seated on a 4 chair table, and quickly bring them a kid's set containing pancakes with juice and some coffee as well.
"Don't see Natsuki around. Surely she is not trying to skip out?"
"Oh no. She is helping with the basketball club actually."
"Oh yeah, she did mention about that." A sigh followed by going back to her coffee in her hand. Why did she not want to continue on this discussion?
"Was there a reason for her leaving the club?" Maybe I am pushing a bit, but I really cannot be hiding behind my past self.
"Hmm, why not try asking herself?" she said, with a somber tone. I think I was reaching my limit, so I say my greetings and part ways with them.
It was around time. I wait with bated breath.
But I was not nervous. I was just impatient.
