Chapter 7:

The rescue

Kesel

I flew as much as I could, maintaining a steady speed and controlling the altitude drop.

I had already gained two or three minutes' distance from that deadly technique.

When I saw the farm, I was already about 200 meters high, so I went down as fast as I could, passing close above the gate, which the surrounding energy destroyed without me even touching it.

When I hit the ground, I caused a big impact that dragged on, creating an impact crater that stretched for a few tens of meters until I stopped.

I left, very dirty and sore, and, going up the side of the crater, was already very close to the mansion where Mr. Bricius' daughter should be.

I giggled, rubbing my shoulder as I walked, looking at my body.
"Great, I don’t think I broke any bones badly," I said.

I was sweltering and extremely tired, but couldn’t rest now. I kept walking toward the door anyway.

"What’s going on? What does all this noise mean?" asked Brigid, the housekeeper, opening the door.

"I don’t have time to explain this now. Where is Lady Winifred?"
I passed by the housekeeper, then felt a hostile energy from someone else behind me.
"What do you think you’re doing here, you foreigner?"
I stopped, looked back, and watched him.
"Cian..." I replied.
He had drawn out his sword and pointed it at me. A green energy emanated from his whole body as well as his weapon.
I turned my gaze forward and continued into the large hall, where two large stairs led to different sides of the first floor. Looking at the sides, I asked again, "If I remember correctly, her room is on the right? Is she there?"
"I asked what you think you’re doing, you bastard! Do you return like this, destroying after leaving with the boss, and without him still, where Mr. Bricius is?"

Cian was a man between 45 and 50 years old. He was Mr. Bricius's trusted man, responsible for picking up his daughter earlier, so all indications were that she should be here.

I looked at him, then saw birds on the horizon in the night sky, flying toward us.

I took a deep breath and said, "I think we should have about 2 minutes, so I’ll explain as simply as possible."

"Some technique that kills everything that touches is approaching. Somebody executed it in the east, and it will arrive soon. Mr. Bricius decided to die by sacrificing himself so that I could come here at full speed and try to save his daughter and whoever else was possible. We made a contract to make sure I tried to do that."

I showed a symbol over my right wrist that symbolized the contract made with him.

The symbol was a stylized B with Bricius' spelling, and its placement on my wrist meant it was a death contract if it wasn't fulfilled.

"I need to know where the Lady Winifred is and protect her. If you want to survive, call everyone who is around here and come to where the Lady Winifred is. I will create a technique that will form a barrier around us so that we are not hit. From that, let’s think about what to do."

They were shocked, but soon Brigid ran to the side and told me to follow her.
The princess was in Brigid’s daughter’s room. Brigid told me to go with her.
Cian mourned and cried over Mr. Bricius, then he went after others who were still nearby on the farm.
"Megan! Are you and Lady all dressed? Please open the door," asked the governess, banging on the door.
"Yes, we are. I’m just combing my hair."
"We don’t have time for that," I said, punching through the door near the doorknob and opening it with my hand inside.

Lady Winifred was coming towards the door. She got scared and backed away.
Megan got scared and stood still, holding the comb in her hair, sitting at the back, after the bed that was two meters sideways from the door.

"What’s going on? Who are you?" Lady Winifred said. It was the first time we'd met in person. She'd spent two years studying at a boarding school in a big city far away.

"This bedroom is not on the first floor. This place will serve to perform the technique," I said, walking and looking around.

"Kesil? What does that mean?" said Megan.

I looked at her and replied.

"Hi!" I said.

I picked some apples from a basket on the left side of the door, on top of a table against the wall, and started eating. I sat at the bedside. I was tired.
"Could you tell her?" I said, looking at the Governess.
Then I took a deep breath, looking at the ceiling of the room. I was worn out.

The governess began to explain everything I said to Lady Winifred. The governess seemed to be around 40 years old, was robust, and wore an apron. Winifred should have been 16. She seemed dressed as a true princess of royalty, with brown hair in bows and braids, and had probably prepared to receive and meet her father at a banquet.

She soon began to cry after hearing about her father’s death.

"I’m so sorry," I said, "but your father decided to sacrifice his life to save you, so try to stay strong while we deal with the technique that will come."
She looked at me in tears and then asked, "What were your last words?"
"Tell my daughter that: 'I wish her a long and happy life, and that I love her.' Those were his last words."
She stared at me in silence and then started crying again.
Then we began to hear screams and hasty steps coming from the hallway.
"They’re coming, just in time," I said. "It’s about 30 seconds away."

Soon Cian and three more people entered the bedroom we were in, and their energy had already been emanated.

"Okay, come closer, everyone, stay around me," I said, standing.

"Cian, did you only find these three?" asked the governess Brigid.

"I called and shouted for everyone!" he said approaching. "Most of the workers went out to a party outside the farm, far away from here. Of the few that were around here, they were holed up in their rooms, and rooms 150 to 200 meters from here, I knocked and called for them quickly at the doors as I could and hardly anyone opened. Those two were the only ones who opened, the girl was nearby coming from the plantations."

I watched him speak and bowed my head.

"Okay, not like I can save everyone."

Among the people who came with Cian were two men, one of my age and another older, around 30 years old.
The oldest was tall and thin, with short black hair, and seemed serious, though he was a bit confused by the situation.
The other dude was very thin, of average height, and had straight light brown hair at shoulder height.
The other person was a girl with curly black hair of medium height, about my age. She had a shy expression and showed fear by joining her hands.

"What now?" asked Cian.

I looked up and jumped using the bed as a base and shouted, being above everyone, “Air Ability! Area attack! Tornado!!!”

I rotated my body, spinning my feet as if dancing in the air, and quickly moved my arms swiftly, indicating the direction of the air. This created a small tornado that enveloped everyone in the room within a 5-meter radius, destroyed all the walls around, and threw them far. The ceiling broke and was thrown up as the tornado formed, rising into the sky.

I gently descended onto the floor, and I was left with a knee bent on the ground, as I breathed profusely. Tired, I was almost at my limit. In fact, I had already overtaken...

"Right... now let’s think about how to act from here on," I said.

The escape part starts now!
