Chapter 4:
The Assassin Wants a Peaceful Life
Someone pushed me, causing me to stumble and fall to the floor.
Rude, I thought angrily. Who would—
I looked up and the words inside my head completely changed directions.
Woah, so many muscles! was what my brain settled with. Because the man was really muscular. Like, super muscular. He must've trained a lot to get those pecs. He was also tall, had long blonde hair and bright blue eyes.
“What are you looking at?” the man said icily.
I quickly bumbled through my words, “Ah… Sorry, sorry. I’m so sorry. I’m just think… thinking… that you have— I mean, wondered wha— what gym did you go to? ”
The stranger looked at me like there was something wrong with my brain.
I smiled, hoping that it would make me even more harmless. It was the kind of smile that aches at the corner of my lips and hurts my teeth. But… if it gets me out of trouble, then I don’t mind.
Mr. Big Muscles took a second more to stare at me. Then he turned away with a hmph. Apparently, he doesn’t think to apologize for his actions, much less help a fallen person up.
It’s fine. It’s fine. In fact, it's an interesting experience. My social life isn’t very great to begin with, being an introvert and all, so meeting arrogant people like him makes for an… well, an interesting experience.
But just as I was about to stand up, someone shouted, “What do you think you’re doing?!”
For a second, I thought that he was talking to me. But then I realized he was talking to Mr. Big Muscles.
Mr. Big Muscles seemed to either not hear or was choosing to ignore the owner of the voice. Because he just placed his keys, weapons (Why does he have weapons?) and an old watch on the tray without looking back.
The person who spoke was a red-haired, copper-skinned man with hazel-colored eyes, and he was stomping towards Mr. Big Muscles with a murderous expression on his face.
Did Mr. Big Muscles do something to him?
“Hey! I’m talking to you, Blondie!” Mr. Redhead said, pulling his arm.
Mr. Big Muscles turned and looked down. Compared to a behemoth like him, Mr. Redhead looked like a little kid. But Mr. Redhead looked at him in the eye and said, “Shouldn’t you be apologizing to him?”
Mr. Big Muscles sneered. “And why should I?” he asked, crossing his arms. “He was in my way.”
Oh! So it turns out that Mr. Redhead was angry for my sake! But why? I’m just a nobody to him.
“So?” Mr. Redhead replied, raising an eyebrow. “That doesn't give you the right to push someone and call them a Weakling!”
“What’s your deal anyway?” Mr. Big Muscles asked. “Is this guy your friend or something?”
He pointed at me.
“I— I don’t know this person!” I said, quickly standing up. “In fact, I… I… I’ve never seen him in my entire life!”
Mr. Redhead seemed to be hurt by my words.
Mr. Big Muscles laughed. “I can’t believe that you’re picking a fight just for a stranger! I guess you’d use anything as an excuse to fight, huh?” A maniacal smile graced his features. “I’ll be happy to oblige.”
