Chapter 3:

Chapter 3: Bloodhound Traversal & The Iron Gate

Ultimate: The First Cell

The gravel roof of the naval warehouse exploded into gray dust beneath Cole's bare feet.

Every sinew in his altered legs coiled and released like heavy hydraulics, turning concrete parapets and rusted fire escapes into mere stepping stones. The cold downpour hammered against his skin, yet the air around his shoulders boiled into steam.

Ahead of him, the night was a labyrinth of chemical trails.

The purple-tinged, synthetic scent of the military convoy’s exhaust cut across the coastal skyline. But pulsing at the absolute center of that trail was the reek of Hillary’s blood sticking to the boots of General Briggs.

Cole cleared sixty-foot alley chasms in single bounds, fingertips tearing grooves into limestone facades as he rebounded off walls, eyes locked dead ahead on the island fortress.

Two miles ahead, deep within the subterranean testing vaults of Black Island, General Briggs marched into the surgical theater, trench coat splattered with Hillary’s blood. Behind him, four operators dragged the stolen drives and cryogenic canisters onto the primary console.

Three civilian bio-engineers backed away, hands trembling.

"G-General Briggs?" the lead stammered. "These codes aren't authorized—"

"Quiet," Briggs barked. He pointed his sidearm at a young soldier standing guard by the observation glass. "Private Miller. Step forward."

"Sir?"

━━━【 B A N G ! 】━━━

Briggs pulled the trigger point-blank.

The soldier collapsed backward into a pool of his own blood, gasping weakly.

The scientists screamed. Briggs didn't blink.

"Pick him up," Briggs commanded. "Place him in the tube chamber. Now."

The operators hurriedly dragged their dying comrade across the tiles, hoisting him into the vertical glass cylinder. Briggs slammed Hillary’s titanium canister down onto the primary injector terminal.

"Administer the First Cell matrix into that dying soldier right now. If that monitor doesn't show life in two minutes, I will execute every single person in this room."

"General, please!" the scientist sobbed, frantically plugging in the sequence. "Dr. Vance’s notes specifically say the sequence requires a metabolic dampener! Without it, runaway bone proliferation cascades—"

"I don't care about the cascade! Inject him!"

The sequence transferred. The hydraulic arm whined. Crimson fluid plunged deep into the dying soldier's neck.

For three seconds, there was silence.

Then, the dead man’s body arched off the restraints with a bone-shattering snap.

A scream ripped from the soldier's throat—the guttural shriek of tearing metal. The man's musculature erupted outward like expanding foam, shredding his tactical vest into scraps of Kevlar. Thick plates of grey, calcified bone burst through his skin, fusing over his spine, shoulders, and skull into an impenetrable carapace.

The glass of the cylinder didn't just crack—it atomized.

"Shut it down!" Briggs shouted, backing toward the blast door. "Sedate him!"

It was too late.

An eight-foot armored monstrosity—a hulking titan of jagged bone and mutated sinew—lunged.

A single sweep of its massive fist decapitated the nearest scientist. Guards opened fire, but their rifle rounds simply flattened and ricocheted off the creature's armored chest like pebbles.

Briggs slammed the emergency override. "Open the gate! Open the damn—"

A shadow fell over him.

A massive hand encased in jagged bone clamped around the General’s skull.

Briggs let out one strangled gasp.

━━【 C R U N C H ! 】━━

The titan cast the limp remains aside like trash. It tilted its armored skull toward the ceiling, letting out an earth-shattering roar that blew out every screen and shattered the observation windows into rain.

Above, on the surface of the island, Cole touched down onto the tarmac with absolute silence.

He had scaled the bridge’s main suspension cables, vaulted the barbed-wire sea walls, and dropped into the facility courtyard.

He sniffed the air. Ink-black eyes narrowed.

The scene was wrong. Transports idled in the yard with doors torn open. Dead soldiers lay strewn across the perimeter, bodies twisted at impossible angles. Alarms blared blood-red through the heavy fog.

Cole approached the subterranean elevator shaft.

The heavy hydraulic blast doors had been peeled outward like wet cardboard.

From the black void below, the scent drafted upward.

His father's blood. The sulfur and sweat of Briggs.

Right in front of him.

Then, the concrete under Cole's soles began to tremble.

【 THUD 】

【 THUD 】

【 THUD 】

From the pitch-black corridor of the blown-out lab, an eight-foot silhouette emerged into the red emergency strobes.

Jagged bone spurs protruded from its knuckles. Its skull was a featureless helmet of pale armor.

Dripping from the beast’s right forearm, plastered across its spikes, were the shredded remnants of General Briggs’s uniform, drenched in the blood Cole was hunting.

The monster’s glowing red eyes locked onto Cole. It exhaled a cloud of scalding vapor, fists clenching with a sound like grinding stones.

Cole didn't back away.

A deep, predatory hiss rolled from his throat as he lowered his center of gravity.

And that marks the end of the launch trilogy!

The board is set: Briggs is dead, the First Cell is awake, and Cole is staring down an eight-foot runaway bone titan in the rain.
