The atmosphere became strange.
Originally, this should have been Diana and Donna Troy fighting Ares together. Either they would awaken some hidden strength and reverse the situation, or Ares would teach them a painful lesson.
Then Damon arrived, and both sides were left confused.
First he beat Ares.
Then he wanted to fight Donna Troy.
Which side was he on?
"No one knows what he is thinking. Be careful. I will defeat Ares as quickly as I can and help you."
Diana hesitated as she warned Donna Troy, then turned toward Ares.
She and Donna had not been a match for Ares even together, but now she had to defeat him quickly.
Diana kicked hard against the ground and charged.
Ares, who had been beaten for no reason and was already furious, grew even angrier when Diana spoke as if she could finish him quickly. The two clashed at once.
Perhaps Ares had not yet recovered, or perhaps Damon's presence made Diana erupt again. Either way, the fight was completely different from before. They were not exactly evenly matched, but Diana could now trade blows with him.
Donna Troy stared, almost stunned.
"Hey."
Slender fingers waved in front of her eyes. Donna jumped and instinctively backed away, only then realizing Damon had already arrived in front of her.
He did not seem eager to attack.
"What is your name?"
Damon smiled as he studied Donna Troy.
She was somewhat shorter than Diana. Her armor had a similar style, but Donna's hair was black.
That black hair not only separated her from Diana, it also proved her identity.
If Damon remembered correctly, there were two generations of Wonder Girl. The first was Donna Troy. The second was Cassie Sandsmark. Cassie was Diana's niece. During the period when Donna Troy left the Wonder Girl identity behind and used the name Darkstar, Cassie admired Donna so much that she made herself a set of equipment and joined the Teen Titans as the second Wonder Girl.
But Cassie was blond.
So this was...
"Donna Troy," Donna answered after hesitating.
"It really is you."
Damon's smile deepened. He asked kindly, "Come on. Tell me where you came from. Why did I not see you on Themyscira before?"
Kindness was a weapon.
Especially after he had just beaten Ares.
So Donna Troy hesitated only briefly before answering.
"I was training in the outside world. Half a year after you and Princess Diana left, I was brought back to Themyscira."
"Half a year? I probably did not pay attention to the exact month when we jumped through time."
The year was the same, but the month was different. For Donna Troy and the people of Themyscira, Damon and Diana had been gone for more than half a year.
"And then? Do you know your own origin?"
Donna Troy's origin was what truly interested Damon.
Donna paused.
"What about my origin? Queen Hippolyta said I was an orphan she saved from a fire. Because raising me on Themyscira would be inconvenient, she fostered me in the outside world and trained me from childhood. When I grew up, she brought me back to Themyscira."
"An orphan?"
Damon smiled and suddenly punched.
Donna Troy was caught off guard and took the blow to the abdomen. She bent over and dropped to one knee.
"Donna Troy!"
Diana had been watching their side even while fighting. Seeing Donna hit, she cried out, but the distraction let Ares knock her away.
Donna struggled up and swung at Damon in anger. He dodged easily, copying her abilities in the same motion.
"As expected. Divine power and abilities similar to Diana's, just weaker."
Damon smiled, caught her next punch, twisted her arm behind her, and pressed her to the ground. At the same time, he took out the Lasso of Truth and bound her hands behind her back.
In an instant, Donna Troy lost the strength to resist and lay helplessly on the ground.
"This thing really is useful."
Damon smiled as he sat on Donna Troy's back and questioned her about the properties of her equipment.
The Lasso of Persuasion: anyone bound by it would obey her commands as long as their willpower was weaker than hers.
The Bracelets of Submission: able to defend against ordinary bullets, missiles, and energy blasts.
The Troia costume: according to Hippolyta, equipment bestowed by the Titans.
As for her shield, it was ordinary Amazon equipment. She also had a combat staff, but because carrying it around was inconvenient, she had left it where she was staying.
Donna Troy could not possibly be an ordinary human orphan.
Hippolyta had definitely not told the truth about her origin. She would not find an ordinary human to replace Diana against Ares. The Lasso of Truth forced honesty, but if Donna herself did not know the answer, then there was obviously nothing for her to reveal.
He would have to ask Hippolyta clearly the next time he went to Themyscira.
Damon felt a little regretful and chatted with Donna Troy in a lazy, idle way.
"Ten minutes."
"I will give you ten more minutes."
After chatting for a while, Damon suddenly grew bored and shouted.
"Diana, if you still cannot defeat Ares in ten minutes, I will make you watch this replacement who came to complete your mission suffer because of you. Then I will kill her, and then I may drag the matter out even further. Hm. Does that sound frightening enough?"
Damon paused and looked down at Donna Troy.
"F-frightening..."
Donna Troy did not want to answer, but she still spoke the truth.
Diana's expression changed, and she stared at Damon in rage.
"Ares, if she is still alive in ten minutes, I will crush your head myself."
Ares looked at Damon with an ugly expression.
"Do not doubt what I say. To me, there are only two kinds of people in this world: those who interest me, and those who do not."
Diana turned her fury toward Ares.
Yes, not toward Damon. Toward Ares.
Because she knew Damon meant what he said. She knew the chance of defeating Damon and saving Donna Troy was almost nonexistent. So she had to defeat Ares.
This was no longer about her mission.
It was about saving someone.
"Do you see now? He is the truly evil one, because he does not care about anything. Sister, join me. Let us defeat him together, then settle our own fight afterward."
Ares offered Diana a proposal that tempted her.
Join forces against Damon Keller, the stronger and more terrifying monster.
