Chapter 37:

Rumbled

Blood Sugar Rush!

The awkward silence continues for a bit longer. Chloe is the first to break it.

Chloe: And I thought being the witness was already bad. I was wrong. The other side is much worse.
Candy: Granny Evelyn, who are they?
Ume: She called her "Mom". It's most probably her daughter and grandson.
Candy: ...Oh no. But why is she here?
Evelyn: ...I forgot. Today is our weekly lunch together.

Then Sarah slowly walks up towards her frozen mother.

Sarah: Mom...? Gertrud, too... what was all of this just now...? And who are the others? We came here like usual, but you wouldn't open the door, so I did. But the house was deserted, only the door to the garden stood open. Nobody was there either and I panicked-! Then I saw all of you appearing outta nowhere-!
Gertrud: ...Which means she saw the whole thing. That's really bad.
Evelyn: Sarah, dear. I... I... what should I...?

Suddenly Timmy dashes to his grandma, his eyes all sparkly as he clings onto her.

Timmy: WOW! WHAT WAS THAT?! DO IT AGAIN, GRANNY!
Evelyn: ...Eh?
Candy: Oh. Seems like your grandson is into your secret magical girl life.
Evelyn: EEEH?!
Timmy: SECRET LIFE?! COOL! Are all of you super heroines?!

Candy, smugly displaying her big-sis-qualities, grins as she kneels down to him.

Candy: We sure are! We're the Hive Five, the legendary heroes who will save the world from evil food!
Sarah: ...Did she just say evil food?!
Timmy: SO AWESOME! And the bee talked, too! Is it an alien bee?
Bee: I'm not an alien!!
Sarah: And this bee really talks!!
Ume: Since he's from another dimension... You could actually call him that.
Sarah: W-w-wait, hold on JUST A MINUTE!! Will somebody PLEASE finally explain what's happening?!

Interrupted by Sarah's outburst, the others quiet down.

Gertrud: Evelyn... at this point, we should fill her in on everything.
Evelyn: ...You are right. Sarah, Timmy... let us go inside. We need to talk.

As Colonel casually walks through the Dark Castle, he comes across a pizza monster on his way. It eyes him up in a very distrustful way.

Pizza monster: ...Colonel. What are you trying to do there?

Both stop, with their backs facing each other.

Colonel: I have no idea what you mean. Tell me how on earth you still are alive instead.
Pizza monster: I'm not stupid. Whenever The Queen comes into sight, I immediately go somewhere else. And don't play dumb. I know you send us out like pawn sacrifices for the Hive Five. Are you planning on revolting against our rulers?

Hearing that, Colonel bursts out in a delighted yet mad laughter.

Colonel: AHAHAHAHA! An interesting way to put it. But no. My life and actions are devoted solely towards our honored King and Queen.
Pizza monster: Then why do you send our siblings as beginner's training for them? With each of our soldiers defeated they grow stronger! How is that compatible with your loyalty?
Colonel: Well... I can't deny a bit of selfishness comes into play here.
Pizza monster: ...And what the hell is that supposed to mean now?
Colonel: That is pretty simple.

The black-cloaked guy takes his candy glass monocle from under his hood again and skillfully slides it through his fingers one-handed.

Colonel: Squashing a bunch of flies is no fun at all. I want to wipe them out when they are at full strength. My ego needs that thrill, by all means. On top of that, watching them struggle with their pitiful lives is perfect entertainment.
Pizza monster: ...Really? Where is your trademark misplaced word today, by the way?
Colonel: *sigh* I ran out of ideas. Used up the ones I could think of so far for the Sage, she gets delightfully angry every time I do that.
Pizza monster: ...U-huh. Whatever.

Both of them walk off again, each in the opposite direction.

Colonel: ...One more thing.
Pizza monster: ...What?
Colonel: During our little chat, Her Majesty honored us with Her arrival. She is right behind and seems overjoyed to see you.

A cold chill runs down the monster's spine.

While Colonel casually puts his monocle away to where he took it from as he walks, a horrible scream roams the entire castle.

Inside Evelyn's house, the Hive Five, Bee and Sarah plus Timmy have gathered at the dining table. Everyone has a few slices of pizza in front of them. Just Bee was given one single slice, since his appetite is much smaller due to his size.

Sarah: ...I see. So this is what happened. I had no idea you had to deal with such things, Mom. Starting directly after Dad's funeral at that.
Evelyn: Do not worry about that. How were you supposed to know when I hid it all this time?
By the way, thank you for organizing these pizzas for us, Chloe. It would have taken a while for me to whip something up for all of us to eat.
Chloe: It's not a big thing, really! I gladly paid for all of it, too! It's past noon, I want pizza, my baby wants pizza, so I get pizza right away. It's just that easy!
Candy: Yup. Pregnant cravings sure are wild. Thanks anyway!
Chloe: You all are very welcome!
Timmy: But Granny being the strongest member among a chosen team of heroes is so cool! I want to tell all of my friends about it!
Sarah: You heard what they said, Timmy! This is top secret so the people in town don't panic!
Timmy: Yeah, I know... but it's too bad I can't tell anybody how awesome my grandma is.
Evelyn: Knowing you put so much faith in me is just enough for me, little munchkin.
Bee: The last step is just to clear the town of any monster that may turn up until we know where to find The Dark Queen and King. But knowing you all, I've got no doubt you'll make it!

Chloe grabs a slice of pizza and takes a big bite, smiling now as she chews.

Chloe: Eat up, everyone! We should take it easy as long as we can!
