Night was black as ink.
Inside a room in Valentina's mansion, loud, unrestrained sounds rose and fell, impossible for anyone nearby to ignore.
Valentina gripped her bedsheets tightly, her face flushed with anger.
"So this is what you meant by making tonight pleasant for me? This is the greatest insult you could give me."
She glared straight ahead.
There was no one in front of her, only a wall.
The sounds were coming from behind that wall.
Yes.
Damon was not in her room at all.
Valentina had assumed that after flirting with her and returning home with her, Damon intended something to happen between them. She would not have let him succeed easily before confirming his identity, but the fact that Damon had taken that woman straight to another room infuriated her.
It was an insult to her charm.
As Damon's pillow, Lilah was unquestionably the most outstanding one so far. Before sleep, she could leave him fully satisfied. During sleep, she allowed him to rest peacefully. Now she had even developed a wake-up function.
Damon, roused in a special way while still half asleep, almost felt as though he had been trapped and could not get up. After struggling for more than an hour, he finally got out of bed.
He showered, dressed, and went to the living room.
As soon as he arrived, he saw Valentina's dark expression and a man with a full beard who looked almost wild.
"Vandal Savage."
Damon greeted him without surprise, then looked at Valentina.
"Dear, could I trouble you for a glass of milk? I feel like I should replenish myself."
Valentina was displeased, but she still rose and left.
"Do you not want to say something?" Vandal Savage asked with a smile as Damon sat down.
"No."
Damon had just finished his morning exercise. He truly did not feel like talking.
"I think you should say something."
Vandal Savage's face gradually cooled, his voice turning threatening.
Damon looked at him, seeming to compromise. After hesitating several times, he finally tried, "G-good morning?"
"..."
"It seems you are a fraud. If you were a time traveler, you would know who I am. You would also know what happens to people who make a fool of me."
Vandal Savage slowly shook out his coat. A dagger appeared in his hand as if by magic.
"I will give you one more chance."
"How long does it take you to resurrect?" Damon suddenly asked.
Vandal's movement stiffened.
"Is ten minutes enough? I might be interested in idle conversation ten minutes from now. So why do you not die for ten minutes first?"
"I do not believe you can do that."
Vandal suddenly hurled the dagger at Damon.
It was fast.
At less than a meter's distance, Vandal was confident it would be faster than a bullet.
The dagger struck Damon.
Vandal's smug expression froze.
Damon had caught it.
"See you in ten minutes."
Damon said it lazily and pointed a weak-looking finger at Vandal Savage.
Boom.
A flash of lightning struck Vandal instantly. The current was not large, but its power was immense. It pierced directly through Vandal's heart and burned a hole through the sofa, revealing part of the floor behind it.
Crash.
A cup shattered.
Damon turned and saw Valentina standing not far away in shock. A broken glass lay by her feet, and milk had spilled across the floor.
"Why panic? You know he can resurrect, do you not?"
Damon frowned and pointed at her feet.
"Was that my milk?"
"Yes... yes."
Valentina knew Vandal Savage could resurrect, but she had never seen it with her own eyes. It had happened too suddenly. She knew Vandal was dangerous. She knew they might fight if negotiations failed. But she had never imagined this outcome.
Vandal Savage had died?
And what was that lightning just now?
Was it Damon's power?
"Waste is shameful."
Damon looked at the milk on the floor and sighed.
"That glass is yours now. Do not waste it."
"Mine? It spilled on the floor," Valentina said by instinct.
"Exactly. That is why I said... do not waste it."
Damon looked at her, emphasizing the words with a smile.
Valentina's face instantly turned ugly.
How was she supposed to drink milk from the floor?
She did not need anyone to explain what he meant.
"I can pour you another glass," Valentina said stiffly.
"Are you sure you want to do that?"
Damon slowly raised his hand. Electricity danced between his fingers.
"You do not need to do this," Valentina said, struggling with herself.
"Waste is shameful."
The lightning brightened, ready to burst.
Valentina looked at Damon, then slowly crouched.
"Master, what is she doing?"
After showering and dressing, Lilah saw Valentina like that and came to Damon's side, asking in a low voice.
"A small punishment. I am finding a little fun while I wait ten minutes."
Damon chuckled.
"Go look in the kitchen and pour me another glass of milk."
"Yes."
Lilah turned toward the kitchen.
"Is this enough?" Valentina demanded angrily after a while.
Damon smiled and was about to answer when a roar sounded nearby. He turned and saw that Vandal Savage had revived at some point, the wound in his chest fully healed.
"That quick? It has not even been ten minutes, has it? And I still did not see clearly how you revived. So... stay dead a little longer."
Looking at the furious Vandal Savage, Damon raised his hand and fired another bolt of lightning.
Vandal fell again.
This time Damon kept his eyes fixed on Vandal's corpse. When Vandal had attacked him earlier, the ability had already been copied. Damon wanted to know how he would resurrect if he ever pushed his luck too far and lost.
Immortality.
Resurrection.
Anyone else who obtained an ability like this would probably be ecstatic, but Damon remained perfectly calm.
Immortality did not hold much attraction for him. There were not many people who could kill him anyway. To him, abilities had only two categories.
Interesting, or boring.
