Chapter 1:

The day the sky turned to blood

Love and Hate

The silence finally fell over the forest, broken only by the echo of my own ragged breathing. Around me, the land of humans was stained black. I stood motionless amidst dozens of demon corpses. I had just defeated with my bare hands. The ground continued to release bursts of dark steam as the demons' magic faded.

I blew away a stray lock of hair that was in my way after the battle and adjusted my bangs. I glanced down at the demon lying nearest my feet while smoothing out my dress—which, fortunately, hadn't been stained with blood. Seeing the lifeless body, a pang of pity tightened my chest, yet my eyes remained fixed on it.

¿Did this eternal war really have to be this way? I shook my head quickly to banish those forbidden thoughts. "I am a warrior goddess fighting for justice, and I cannot afford to doubt."

I spread my wings and soared into the sky, leaving behind the earth and the remains that surrounded me. I cut through the clouds at full speed, beating my wings with a steady rhythm as I ascended straight toward the firmament, where the golden gates of the realm ruled by the celestial matriarch were already visible in the distance. The flight back to the celestial kingdom took but a few moments. I walked with a firm step to her imposing throne and immediately knelt, bowing my head in a deep reverence.

—Divine judgment has fallen; I have exterminated every last demon on the battlefield—I declared in a firm, icy voice.

The sovereign looked at me from the throne, breaking into a smile of absolute satisfaction.

—Your divine power is this world's eternal shield, Julieta. Continue eradicating the scum that dares to defy our heavens.

—Yeah —I nodded curtly as I stood up.

I spun on my heels immediately. I left the temple with a brisk step and crossed the celestial corridors with my gaze fixed on the ground, ignoring the other goddesses. I entered my room completely exhausted; the weight of the battle was finally taking its toll. Once in the privacy of my room, nothing else mattered. I collapsed onto the bed, sinking into the sheets with the faint hope that sleep would erase the images of the massacre.

Upon arriving at the battlefield, the scene froze before my eyes. An icy, unreal shock coursed through my body, completely paralyzing me. My eyes fixed on two inert silhouettes lying on the ground. The world around me lost all meaning. I clenched my fists so tightly that my nails pierced my own skin, drawing blood, as a blind, destructive, and bloodthirsty fury buried my sanity.

—Damned goddesses... — I whispered, in an icy voice welling up from the depths of my throat, before my power erupted completely.

—I don't care in which corner of your filthy heaven the rat who did this is hiding... ¡I am going to slaughter every single one of you until the guilty one rolls at my feet.

A terrifying chill ran down my spine, forcing me to wake up and jump to my feet in the middle of the bed. A malevolent, gigantic, and overwheIming presence was approaching speed.

Outside, total chaos had already begun. Dozens of goddesses and angels flew back and forth in a panic, trying to advance toward the entrance of  the kingdom to see what that immense thing threatening  to destroy us was. In the crowd, I caught sight of an angel running In my direction, his face completely contorted and covered In sweat.

—¡It is death itself! ¡The calamity of the underworld is hare! ¡It's Mateo! ¡Run if you don't want to be torm apart by him! —he screamed at the top of his lungs, his voice creacked with absolute panic

I gritted my teeth and took a deep breath, forcing myself to maintain my composure despite feeling my hands tremble. The angel grabbed my arm roughly, trying to drag me along with him In his desperate escape.

—¡Come on, run fast! ¡Out of hare!—the angel screamed, his eyes terrified, pulling me with force.

I broke free from his grip with a sharp tug, forcing him to stop, and stared at him intently with absolute seriousness.

—¿Are you completely sure it's him? —I asked him, keeping  my voice firm —¿Are you talking about Mateo, the most powerful and feared demon of all time?

The angel looked at me as if I  had lost my mind. His entire body was shaking from head to toe as he stepped back a bit.

—¡Of course it's hime! —he exclaimed, his voice cracked with panic —.¡No one else possesses such an intimidating  and destructive aura! ¿who the hell else do you think it could be?!
