Chapter 37:

Thirty Seven – Fighting in the Rain

After the Rain

There is no point in trying to reason with him.

I do not think there ever was.

His way of thinking is too disturbing.

There is no reason.

I have to end this now.

If he wants an explosion.

He is going to get one.

I channel magic into my feet and charge at him.

I knock him down.

Finally.

"But..."

Where are the lasers?

He stands up.

"You finally got it. The gargoyles are being used to channel the explosion. When I said you could give everything you have got, I meant it. They will not get in our way."

He vanishes from right in front of me.

I feel his fist slam into my stomach.

He is just as fast as I am.

I am sent flying through the ceiling.

Two floors.

I smash through the roof.

I feel the rain on my back.

What incredible strength.

This is his earth magic.

Olvad comes flying through the hole on the roof.

I quickly get to my feet.

Does he thinks it will be hard for me to use my fire magic in the rain?

He is wrong.

My fire always had burned hotter than this rain.

I use wind magic on my feet to launch myself at him.

Now with fire magic surrounding me.

I become a living fireball going towards Olvad.

"Now you see." he exclaims.

He creates a water barrier using the rain.

I am stronger.

I boost my wind magic to push through the shield.

I burn hotter than this rain!

I break through the barrier and manage to slam him toward the ground.

He stops his fall and begins to hover just before impact.

He lands on the ground.

Smiling.

I hate that smile.

That bastard is actually having fun.

I am going to smash every tooth in his mouth so he never smiles again.

I do the same thing.

I launch myself at him like a fireball.

Faster this time.

He is fast.

I am faster.

I hit him again.

He does not lose his balance.

He grabs me by the neck.

I will burn his hand.

I cloak my entire body in flames.

He tightens his grip on my throat.

I try to break free.

I start kicking his head.

His torso.

Wherever I can land a blow.

He is incredibly resistant.

A water projectile comes flying toward Olvad.

He manages to stop it with his hands.

Enough of a distraction.

I break free from his claws.

I leap backward.

I finally realize that the others are around me.

Fighting too.

The war has reached its final stage.

Rebel forces are breaking through the last line of defense.

The Capital is being defeated.

Olvad comes toward me.

He knocks me to the ground.

"Do not get distracted. I will not let those insects spoil our fun."

I need to tell someone what is about to happen.

We have to try to stop the city from exploding.

High up on a building across the street.

Du!

She was the one who shot the water projectile.

I have to get her attention.

I use my wind magic to launch myself toward her.

Olvad stops me in middle of the air.

"No. Do not you understand? Stop losing focus with these useless fools. They still do not know the truth that the two of us know."

Du fires several water projectiles at Olvad.

He blocks them:

One.

Two.

Three.

Four.

Five.

Six.

He focus with his a hand and with a gesture earth spikes shoots up from the ground.

Right through the building where Du was standing.

It pierces everything.

Du manages to dodge.

She lands on the street below.

The rebel forces finally enter the base.

The Capital is cornered.

Kasamba jumps at Olvad.

Punching.

Olvad stops the blow with just one of his hands.

Then he closes his palm over Kasamba’s had and holds him.

Olvad swings Kasamba’s arm toward the ground to throw him off balance.

Kasamba quickly throws another punch with his free hand, but Olvad catches that one too.

Kasamba then kicks him out with both legs.

Striking Olvad’s unprotected chest.

He breaks free.

Kasamba leaps backward landing beside me.

"Looks like we had the same idea, kid. That guy is tough, kid."

"You have to evacuate the people in the city," I shout. "Olvad have set a bomb. He plans to blow the whole city up. We have to stop him!"

"What now?"

"There is no time to explain. You need to locate it. I do not know how. It should be a massive concentration of magical energy building up somewhere in the city. You and the others need to find it. I will hold Olvad here. He only wants me. He will not care about anything else."

Has the rain stopped?

What is happening?

Olvad.

Kasamba is thrown back by a blast of water.

Not just him.

All the rebels in the courtyard are pushed away.

All the Council guards are pushed away.

Olvad has used the rain to create a water barrier around the entire building.

The entire courtyard is sealed.

Only he and I remain inside.

The people outside try to break through it.

Nothing.

Kasamba locks eyes with me from the other side.

Without a word we understand each other.

He departs alongside with the rest of the forces.

They must find the machine.

I do not need to worry about that now.

I trust him.

I just need to focus on taking Olvad down.

"You are not as smart as people say. The is no rain inside this barrier you create. I can use full power of my fire. I am going to burn you, Olvad!"

I rush toward him again.

I stop just centimeters from him.

I turn my palms together in front of me.

Facing Olvad.

I unleash all my fire magic.

Point blank.

A torrent of flames engulfing him.

I will not stop.

Nothing will stop me.

What?

My flames being absorbed.

I leap backward.

Is Olvad swallowing my fire?

"My turn." Olvad spits a blast of fire at me from his mouth.

I dodge.

He shifts its trajectory to track me.

I hide around the corner of the building.

His flames stop.

By the elder goddesses.

He can use multiple elements.

I expected nothing less.

He has to keep focused on the barrier.

He has to keep his arms spread wide to maintain it.

The moment he breaks his concentration, Du and his allies will be able to get in.

I will not be able to stop him alone.

He is very powerful.

I need help.

I know we can do it.

I just need to break his concentration.

Which is a very difficult task in itself.

Even having to maintain concentration, he is incredibly fast.

His legs act like extra arms.

He keeps blocking my attacks.

Countering every punch I throw.

All with his legs.

He leaps toward me.

Spinning on his own axis, he slams his massive leg at me.

I manage to dodge.

A crater opens up where he strikes the ground.

Will he never get tired?

Using so much magic like this...

For so long...

It drains a huge amount of energy.

Even my fire attacks are getting absorbed

He uses his mouth to swallow the flames

Or he simply kicks it away.

I can not give up.

I keep attacking.

More speed.

Keep going.

I light up my fist in flames.

I punch at his face.

He raises his foot high above his head and block my fist with it.

Using my hand as a support.

He leaps off his other leg and kicks me in the face.

I can not block it.

I am sent flying.

I start firing a barrage of fireballs in his direction from the distance.

One.

Two.

Three.

Four.

Five.

Six...

I am repositioning myself in the courtyard.

There has to be something here I can use.

"Do you get it yet? Have you caught a glimpse of the true meaning of life? I have never fought like this. I have never had this much fun. Let us never stop!" He exclaims.

He does not look tired.

The opposite.

The more time passes, the more energized he becomes.

He really is a madman.

He is actually enjoying this situation.

I need to put an end to this quickly.

I feel the ground shaking.

What is happening?

What now?

Something is coming from beneath Olvad.

This is my chance.

I use air magic to launch myself toward him.

I light my hands with fire.

Olvad tries to use his knees to block me again.

He can not.

Something is holding him.

A hand bursts from the ground.

It gabs his heel.

He can not stop me.

I his torso.

He does not lose his focus.

I strike again.

A barrage of my fiery fists.

And again.

Keep going.

He is tough.

A second hand from beneath and grabs his other heel.

He is pulled into the ground.

Like quicksand.

He tries to climb out of the hole.

I am fast.

I keep punching him.

To stopping his resistance.
