Chapter 11:

Part 1.10

Wrath from the Underworld

Part 1.10

Marky was dead, and I had an absolutely perfect alibi.

Everything I did up to that point was to either gain trust or strengthen my ‘innocence’.

Here is something I forgot to mention.

During the Peakey hit, I mentioned to Sandra that my coat was made of Dragonscales.

Here is why that was important.

Dragonscale is bulletproof, but it isn’t meant for bullets.

It is meant to protect against explosions.

The material is very heavy and rigid.

That is why I had it made into a trench coat.

I have better mobility, and I am a pretty strong guy.

So when Marky blew up, my survival and lack of shrapnel in my organs made sense.

Speaking of organs, Sandra’s look hurt one that I never thought about too much.

My heart.

I did my best to look like a worried employee, but the TAF still grabbed me.

I was stripped of my clothes and weapons during the van ride to HQ.

The next few weeks went by in a blur as I was repeatedly scanned, kicked, punched and waterboarded.

It hurt, but at least I didn’t have to go to work.

After a while, it seemed like they believed Milton, because Marky’s dad paid me a visit.

Like a true traumatised individual, I cowered in the corner.

He walked up to me and threw some clothes on me.

Not a single shred of compassion or sadness was on this bastard’s face.

I know I killed his son, but this asshole was ice cold.

After I managed to dress myself, he ordered me to follow him.

I limped after him, and I made sure to stumble a few times.

Selling the idea that I was a simple soldier was easy.

Not killing everyone involved with my interrogation was the hardest thing I had ever done.

Nero led me to a door with his name in bold letters.

He stood there for a second until it was opened for him.

I limped in after him and waited for him to sit down first.

With a small nod, he allowed me to sit.

I really hate these people, and the rules only the poor have to follow.

After I ‘crumpled’ into my seat, he spoke.

“It has been ruled that you are innocent, and your treatment was harsh. I have decided to compensate you. Is there anything you want?”

Remember how I said that patience was my greatest weapon?

I have to admit I was wrong.

This was either the devil’s own luck or you helped me from beyond the grave.

I sat up as straight as I could.

“I want to be in on the investigation.”

Nero raised an eyebrow.

“Why?”

This was the moment I had to commit, or the entire operation would have been for nothing.

“I am a bodyguard. If my client dies, I have to put every bastard involved in the ground.”

He had the tiniest smile I had ever seen.

“In your records, it states you were in training for military police, but transferred out. Why?”

I stood up jerkily as if I were a soldier preparing for battle.

“My friends were going to war, sir. I couldn’t let them go on their own.”

With a small nod, he dismissed me.

“After your recovery, take your post as Miss Kennedy’s second guard.”

Dammit, it seems like luck wasn’t on my side.
