Chapter 6:

Just another workday.

Three-Fold Sticky Note.

“Sir, what happened yesterday?”

Once again, Saburō was stamping his papers methodically. His eyes a little less tired than usual and his mind sharper than before.

“Sir?”

He had no recollection of what happened after he touched the Three-fold sticky note. All that remained was the feeling of a warm, gentle breeze of wind, and that of nostalgia.

“Hey Sir, you listening?”

When he woke up again, the head officer Kelvin told him that the sticky note burned itself to cinders, and the cinders burned to even tinier cinders. Apparently, 15 minutes after he blacked out all of the victims that kept repeating his name immediately recovered from their overload of Mysticism, and were safely resting at the internal hospital.

“If you don’t wake up I’ll use the money-eating-crow and have it peck through your cash.”

“A crow…”

That’s it—a white crow! While his memories were foggy, Saburō definitely remembered talking to a white crow, and only that. They talked, but of what?
A certain feeling in him, a feeling of duty, gave him the impression that it was an important conversation. Maybe even an exchange important enough that it was destined to be forgotten.

“…Ah well, who really cares.”

All that Saburō took out of that whole ordeal, was that he would get an increase on his quarter-year bonus and possibly a promotion.

“Come on Sir, tell me already!”

“Well aren’t you curious Penny? It’s good! Being curious will absolutely bring you to the positive heights of greatness.” The manager said with irony written on his tongue. “And being curious also means that you can forget about your weekly bonus.”

“Whaaaaaat? That’s not fair Sir! I’ve been working hard, haven’t I?”

“Any good senior knows when to reward and when to punish. This is for your own good Penny.”

“And any good senior should at least answer to the questions of their junior! Could it be that what happened is some state secret or something? If it is, don’t say anything, I’ll go find the answer myself!”

“Waaait wait wait don’t go.” The manager quickly stopped her. “It’s not really a secret, but knowing about stuff will eventually get you involved, want it or not.”

“And what if? I at least should follow in your steps.”

“…Oh Penny.”

Who knows what Saburō was feeling then about his protege. Worry? Pride? Hope? A mixture of those emotions? That mysterious emotion, whatever it was, compelled him to talk. To teach. And to preserve that memory for someone else to remember.

“Alright, I’ll tell you what I know. If you want my seat as senior manager you’ll have to be ready for this kind of eventuality. Even if it’s painful, extraordinary or overwhelmingly boring, whatever happens at the job is just another workday.”

Saburō let go of his hand stamp and cleared his throat.
Facing his protege, he passed on his memories to Penny.
And Penny, in time, will also share that memory with those that follow.
Such is humanity's Graveyard of Remembrance.

“It all started with the Three-fold sticky note.”
