Chapter 3:
Let's be less than commoners
One day while Elly and I were studying Nora came into the study hall.
“How’s the studying going ladies?” He said with nothing but smug confidence.
Why are you smug all the time? This guy acts like nothing bothers him. What, you think you’re all that because you scared me once? I can take you.
“We’re studying the great war.” Elly answered.
“Ah the tail of the hero.” Norn sad excitedly.
“What, you know about this stuff?” I asked. I won’t lie; I don’t like Norn. He’s kind of a creep and a no good perv but he’s pretty smart. The guy knew his stuff.
“Oh course. Almost 100 years ago this kingdom of ours and many others almost fell to the demon king. Demon King Guruma. He was demon born in the slums. They said one day he had awoken with power unlike any other.”
He went on to tell us the history of the demon King Guruma. He apparently despised humans for being so greedy. Humans tend to overstep and expand beyond what they’re allowed to rule. Guruma came to power and whipped out nearly 45% of humans. It was terrible. Even this kingdom almost fell until the Hero Theresa was born. She was a powerful swordswoman and magic user. She halted the demon king with her leading party of five and an army from neighboring kingdoms. Sadly, she died before she could slay the king, but peace came shortly after. They say the demon king slumbers somewhere but most of his descends claim he’s dead. Weirdly enough, none of his kids have anything against humans or other races. They say he likes humans because they make good food and other things he would necessarily never see demons make. Humans and other races co-exist now but….it sounds like it’s too soon to let your guard down if you ask me. We have a demon maid as well. She has red skin with pointy ears and white hair. She looks so cool. Still haven’t really seen any magic. I’ve seen a few maids make little flames as cannels but that’s about it.
“Wait, so if the hero died, why did the demons not keep up their attack?” I asked.
“Because they fear that if war were to happen again another hero would rise up and kill them all.”
I turned a page and saw a picture of the famous hero.
“Theresa……”
Our studying and lessons went on day after until it was time. We were going to meet the king.
The day before went on like normal. There were more guards than before. The maids worked almost around the clock. They did our measurements, bathed us and gave us annoying quizzes on stuff we learned. Was all this really needed? I guess the king really is that important after all.
The day came.
Elly and I wake up early and the maids started doing our hair, nails, and dressing us.
“Ugh, I feel like a stuff pig.” I said this while I tried to adjust the straps on my back.
“Don’t mess the dress big sis. You’ll undo it.”
Yeah, that’s the last thing on my mind right now. They tied it too damn tight!
After a while Norn came for us. We started following him until we came to a staircase leading down.
Were we really about to leave this part of the castle? It was really happening! I looked at Elly and I could feel part of my face drop. Elly was the straightest face possible. Weird.
We decided downward and came to another large hallway. It was bright, there were large windows lining it with a large blue carpet with a trim gold pattern.
“Fancy. Don’t you think so Elly?” I chuckled a little.
I looked at Elly again and she ignored me. What the hell is her problem?
“Elly?” I was a bit worried now. This isn’t like her.
“Princess Marida, I’d advise you to not act so casual. We are royalty after all.” She said that so coldly I was in pure shock. She started to walk forward before I put my hand on her shoulder.
“Hey what the hell’s going on Elly? Why’re you acting so weird?”
“I’m not acting. This is how we were raised. All you’ve done is slack off and play around. That’s over now.” She turned her away from me and started heading down the hall.
Norn stood near me while I stood there dumbfounded.
“H-hey!-“
Before I could take a step, someone placed their hand on my own shoulder. It was Norn. The look on his face was one of pity. What the hell are you looking at me like that for?! Piss off!
I shrugged him off before following Elly.
As we reached the massive doors at the end of the hall Elly stood there and kept ignoring me.
“Damn it Elly talk to me! What’s gotten into you?”
“Nothing’s gotten into me. I just know my place. You should too. If you’re going to keep slacking off and be a burden than just stay out of my way.”
After she said that the doors started to open. It was a massive room with a large number of guards, nobles and other important people. How many of them are there?
“Elly?”
She ignored me and started to walk inside. At the very back of the room was the throw. There were two chairs, one for the king and his queen.
Looking at the queen, she was a woman would look just as you’d expect. She was beautiful with long red hair and amazing dress….she looked just like… Trina! There’s no mistake she was her mother. Talk about stacked. She had a mean look in her eyes. She didn’t care about us one bit.
Sitting next to her on his thrown as the king.
“All welcome the 11th and 12th princesses. Princess Marida R. Nobless!”
“Huh, me?”
“Princess Ellyford F. Nobless.”
Elly slightly bowed her head before the king.
“All kneel before his majesty! Lord Aliamonti V Algold!!!”
The king stood and everyone in the room kneeled before him.
He was an imposing man. He had to be over 6ft tall. He looked to be in his forties with a large beard and purple eyes. He was also wearing white large lined with a golden lining as well as a dark red cape. Without a doubt. This man….was king.
