Chapter 40:

Gun Blade

WarHead: Forced to Engineer the Apocalypse. Volume one.

"Geraltavin, What was that?"

"Something is happening in the Airship."

Johnaquil and Geraltavin were still on the inner wall. Overseeing the artillery as the battle on the ground raged on.

The first of the Demon Army had reached the outer walls. But their victory was short lived. Then archer and gaurds on the wall were well rested and ready. They have spent the whole morning watching the demon army get slaughter. And they were hungry for a chance to join in on the fun.

The only true problem came from the Helldrakes, even with Shiro taking out many as he did when the airship rose up, they still outnumbered the wyvern riders. The extra Helldrake and their riders focused their attention talking out the heavy rail cannons installation.

They were being repelled by the heavy bow archers and light rail cannon users, but their numbers where still great. It was only a matter of time before some would start to go down.

"Geraltavin, We should do something about the Airship!"

"Even if yer want to, we don't have the means to get uer up there."

"Not to criticize your plan too much but was putting Shiro in a completely isolated and unreachable location a good idea?"

"Ai, it was a double edged sword, we knew the risk. But we couldn't risk another internal kidnapping even during the chaos of war..."

Geraltavin paused for a moment.

"I am also surprised Azura agreed to it. Since Shiro could just up en fly away whenever he so feels like it."

"Huh. I forgot about that."

The two of them looked up at the Airship and opened an uninhibited open sky around it.

"So did I, but I think Shiro did too... Either way, he made sure to go up there prepared."

"The three custom weapons? That I haven't paid for yet."

"Yer really focusing on that last part aren't ya?"

"Yes!"

"We'll you already saw X03, the mini twelve rail cannon made specifically for when the Helldrakes attacked during the airship's ascension."

"What about one and two?"

"X02 is a horribly designed close range weapon! But he wanted it. So if there is anyone up there with him, he should be using it."

"Well I hope so! Because whatever is happening up there has caused the airships to stop firing volleys."

Before Geraltavin could reply, another explosion happened on the Airship. Multiple bolts shot straight out of the inside of the Airship and out the top. Poking multiple holes though the balloon that keeps the Airship a float.

"Was that X02 or X01?"

"Neither."

"Geraltavin! Johnaquil!"

Johnaquil and Geraltavin turned around to the sound of Gris voice.

The General of the fourth company has been spotted! Azura is pushing out of the city to face them! You have to keep your aim away from her!"

"Why is she pushing out of the city?"

"Yeah, if yer know the position of the general, let's just blow them back to hell with the heavy rail cannons!?"

Gris climbed to the top of the inner castle wall.

"I tried to tell Azura that but she wouldn't listen. The general is her mother."

. . .

"Aye We're losing altitude but hell's going to have to wait a bit longer for ya, cuz we're not going down just yet!"

Captain Eiichrio yelled to the crew through the pipes.

"I put internal sails inside the balloon for this very reason. We can still fly but not at this altitude."

Shiro was on the lower deck with the rest of the crew around Alamak's body. He had fallen through the floor when the crew let loose of him from the lower deck.

"I owe you guys for saying my life there."

"Aye, we got ya boss."

"No worries!"

"And once the balloon gets low enough, we got patch kits it go back outside and fix this girl back up!"

The crew cheered in unison.

So if Alamak wasn't the traitor, that still leaves the question of who was? And when they'll make their move?

"Aye Boss! Boss! This thing ain't dead!?"

Shiro eyes widened as he turned around.

Alamak body was starting at finally shake and contour as a healed.

Frog tongues, shark teeth and some other animals with insane levels of regeneration to come back from that! Don't forget Shiro, this is another world with mythic monsters we don't know what this guy has inside him....

Inside him...

Some of the crew began unloading more bolts into the carcass as it regenerated.

"Don't stop shooting him with everything you got! I need to go get my bag!"

Shiro ran up to the second floor. Heading towards that map table that had his bag which still contained X02 and X01.

"Oi what's happening down there?!"

"Just a monster that ain't willing to die. But I got just the tool for the job!"

"Eh? Another one of those 'Manpad' please tell me you have a better name for this one!"

"Don't worry, I do."

Shiro pulled out the weapon.

At first glance, it resembled a twin pronged blade. Two long and parallel edges joined at the hilt, leaving a narrow channel between them. But the space where a fuller should have been had been removed out and rebuilt into something far more familiar.

A light rail cannon

Twin rails were formed by the length of the weapon's central channel, embedded with copper on a reinforced steel blade. Intricate runes sat along the blades while the two zircon tipped capacitors made the cross guard.

Impractical, unrealistic, the worst part of both weapons...

Shiro activated the runs. The channel hummed with a low, rising vibration, as though the weapon itself were holding its breath. Lightning arching between the two blades in a raging fury

But that's only within the limitations of physics of my old world....and this one too. But with magic, might as well allow someone impracticality for the rule of cool!

Shiro smiled as he looked at Captain Eiichrio.

"I present to you....

Shiro intentionally added a pause for dramatic effect just as Eiichrio did for revealing the name of the ship.

"The Gun Blade!"
