Chapter 6:

The Silence That Came After Death

Re: Origin— The Mystery of Reincarnation

At first, I thought I was unconscious. There was nothing around me.No sound. No light. No sensation of air against my skin.I tried to move my hand, but I could not tell whether my hand was moving or whether I even had a hand anymore. The thought should have frightened me.Instead, I simply waited.Perhaps this was what happened after an accident. Perhaps my body needed time to recover. Maybe I was lying in a hospital bed somewhere, surrounded by doctors and machines. But if that were true, why couldn't I hear anything? No footsteps. No voices. No beeping monitors. Not even the sound of my own breathing.I tried to inhale.Nothing happened.I tried again.Still nothing.Yet I did not feel as though I was suffocating. There was no pain in my chest. No pressure in my lungs. No panic rising through my body. There was only an absence.A strange, complete absence.I remembered the rooftop. The shaking ground. The broken railing.Miyu's hand slipping away from mine.Kaito reaching toward me.Then the fall.My final thought returned with painful clarity. Why wasn't it me?I closed my eyes—or at least imagined that I did.So I was dead. The conclusion arrived quietly. There was no dramatic revelation. No flash of memories. No great voice announcing judgment.Just a simple understanding.I had died. For eighteen years, I had worked to keep myself alive. I had learned how to stretch a small amount of money across several days. I had learned how to endure hunger, exhaustion, and silence. I had learned not to expect people to stay. And in the end, none of those skills had mattered.Death had taken me in a single moment.I wondered whether anyone had found my body.Whether my school had contacted someone.Whether the authorities had searched for a guardian and discovered that there was no one to call.Perhaps my belongings would be placed in a box.Perhaps my room would be emptied.Perhaps the world would continue exactly as it always had.The thought did not hurt as much as I expected.Maybe I had already become accustomed to being left behind.I remained suspended in that endless darkness. There was no sense of time here. A second could have passed, or a hundred years. I had no way to measure it.Then—
A sound reached me.
It was faint at first.
Almost too faint to recognize.
A voice.
Not from above.
Not from below.
It seemed to come from everywhere at once.
"You will soon be born into a new world."
I froze.
For the first time since awakening in the darkness, I felt something close to fear.
Who was speaking?
Where was I?
And why could I still hear a voice if I was truly dead?
The voice continued, calm and impossible to understand.
"Do not fear. Your arrival is drawing near."
A new world?
I tried to speak, but no words came out.
The thought alone echoed inside me.
Another world?
Before I could ask what that meant, the darkness around me began to change. The darkness began to ripple. At first, the change was so subtle that I wondered whether I had imagined it. The empty space around me trembled like the surface of water disturbed by a distant drop of rain. Then, a faint light appeared. It was not bright enough to hurt my eyes. In fact, I was not even sure I still possessed eyes. The light simply existed within the darkness, a small silver glow floating far away.I tried to move toward it.Nothing happened. There was no body to push forward. No ground beneath me. No air to carry the sound of my movements.Still, the light grew closer.Or perhaps I was the one being drawn toward it."Who are you?"My voice did not leave my mouth.Instead, the question formed inside my mind, and the surrounding darkness seemed to receive it.The answer came immediately."I am someone who has been waiting for you."The voice was neither male nor female. It was gentle, yet impossibly distant. It carried no anger, no pity, and no warmth that I could fully understand. It sounded like a voice that had existed long before the world I knew—and would remain long after it disappeared."Waiting for me?""Yes.""Why?"The silver light flickered."Because your story has not ended."I remembered the rooftop again.Miyu's hand. The broken railing. The empty space beneath me.My body falling."My story ended when I died.""Your first story ended."The distinction unsettled me.I wanted to reject it, but something in the voice made me hesitate."Then what is this place?""A passage.""A passage to where?""To a world you have never seen."The darkness shifted again. Around the silver light, faint colors began to emerge—deep blue, violet, and pale gold. They moved like clouds beneath a night sky."A new world?" I asked."Yes. You will soon be born into this new world."The words echoed through me.Born.Not revived. Not returned.Born again. The idea was so strange that I could not immediately grasp it."Are you saying I'll become a baby?""That is one way to describe it.""Will I remember this life?""For a time.""For a time?""Memories are fragile things when carried into a new existence. Some will fade. Some will become dreams. Some may remain hidden until the moment you need them."I felt something unfamiliar tighten inside me.Fear.If I was reborn, would I still be myself? Would Akira Nakamura disappear beneath another name, another face, another life?"And why me?" I asked. "Why give me another chance?"The voice fell silent. For the first time, I sensed something behind its calmness—not hesitation, exactly, but consideration."Because you have endured much.""That doesn't make me special.""No. It does not."The answer was unexpectedly blunt.I almost laughed, though I had no breath with which to do so."Then why?""Because the world you are entering is approaching a turning point. Because certain possibilities have converged. Because your existence may become important.""May?""Nothing is certain."The silver light expanded, revealing a vague shape within it. I could not see a face, only the outline of something standing beyond the boundary between light and darkness."Your next life will not be peaceful," the voice continued. "There will be things you cannot understand. Powers you cannot control. People who will offer kindness and people who will seek to use you.""That sounds like my old life.""This world is different.""How?""You will be born beneath unfamiliar stars. You will hear words that do not belong to your former language. You will witness things your previous world called impossible."A strange image passed through my mind. Two moons hanging over a dark landscape.A sky painted with luminous colors.A distant star shining where no star should have been. The image vanished before I could study it."Magic," I whispered. The voice did not deny it."Will I be able to use it?""That will depend on what you become.""What do you want me to become?""Nothing."The answer surprised me."Nothing?""I do not command your future. I do not demand that you become a hero, a king, a saint, or a weapon. Your choices will belong to you.""Then why bring me there?""Because even an uncertain life is still a life."The words struck deeper than I expected.I remembered how often I had wished for someone to choose me. Someone to reach for me. Someone to tell me that my existence mattered. But in my final moment, I had been left behind. Now, after death, something was offering me another beginning.I did not know whether to trust it.Trust had already cost me everything once."Can I refuse?" I asked. The silver light dimmed slightly."Yes."The answer was simple."If you refuse, you will remain here until your consciousness dissolves. There will be no pain. No punishment. No further suffering."The darkness around me felt strangely peaceful. For a moment, I considered it.No betrayal. No expectations. No hunger. No loneliness. No need to trust anyone ever again. But then I imagined an unfamiliar world waiting beyond the light. A world I knew nothing about. A world where I might have another chance to meet people, to learn, to live differently. Not because I believed everyone would be kind. Not because I believed love would save me.But because some small part of me still wanted to know what would happen if I continued."What happens if I accept?""You will be born.""And what will I be?"The voice became quieter."That is for the world to decide."The light suddenly brightened. The darkness beneath me—or what I imagined was beneath me—began to disappear. A distant sound reached me, soft and rhythmic.A heartbeat. At first, I thought it was mine. Then I realized it was too slow.Too large.Too close.Something was pulling me forward. The light swallowed the darkness.
And for the first time since my death, I felt something.
Warmth.
Then pressure.
Then the distant sensation of being held within something alive.
I tried to speak.
I tried to ask one last question.
But my thoughts began to scatter, dissolving like mist beneath the morning sun.
The last thing I remembered was the voice.
"Do not fear the life ahead of you."
Then everything went silent again.
Warmth surrounded me.
For a while, I could not remember anything beyond that sensation. There was no ground beneath me, no sky above me, and no sound except for a slow, distant rhythm that seemed to pass through my entire existence.
Thump.
Thump.
Thump.
It was not my heartbeat.
It was something larger.
Something that seemed to belong to the space itself.
I tried to open my eyes.
This time, I succeeded.
At least, I thought I did.
There was no darkness in front of me. Instead, I saw an endless expanse filled with colors that had no names. Silver flowed beside deep violet. Pale gold twisted through black. Blue light drifted like mist, while shadows moved beneath it without ever becoming completely separate.

The sight should have been impossible.

Yet somehow, it felt natural.

I tried to look around, but I quickly realized that I had no body.

No hands.

No feet.

No weight.

I existed as a point of awareness suspended within that vast, silent space.

"Where am I?"

My voice did not leave my mouth.

In fact, I was not even certain I had a mouth anymore. The question simply formed inside my consciousness, and the surrounding realm responded with a faint tremor of light.

I was not floating in darkness.

I was inside something.

The realization came slowly.

The space around me felt enclosed, but not like a room or a prison. Its boundaries were distant and curved, surrounding me like the walls of a womb. Beyond those boundaries, something immeasurably vast stirred.

Divinity.

Darkness.

They were not fighting.

They were not separate.

They were intertwined, flowing into one another in an endless cycle. Light emerged from shadow, and shadow emerged from light. Neither one appeared superior to the other.

I watched them move, unable to understand what I was seeing.

"This is not a normal place."

The voice that answered did not come from outside.

It came from within me.

"Who are you?"

"I am your Unique Attribute."

I fell silent.

"My… what?"

"Your Unique Attribute. I am connected to your existence and will remain with you after your birth."

"Are you the one who brought me here?"

"No."

"Then who did?"

"That answer cannot be given yet."

I stared into the shifting colors surrounding me.

The voice was not the same as the mysterious presence that had spoken to me earlier. That earlier voice had felt distant, as though it had come from beyond the boundaries of existence.

This one was different.

It was inside me.

It was connected to me.

And somehow, I knew it would remain with me even after I entered the new world.

"So you exist inside my consciousness?"

"That is an incomplete description."

"Then what are you?"

"I am your Unique Attribute."

"You already said that."

"Yes."

The calm response irritated me.

"Can you give me an answer that actually explains something?"

"Not all answers can be understood in your current state."

"Everyone keeps saying that."

The surrounding light trembled faintly, though I could not tell whether it was reacting to my frustration or merely continuing its endless movement.

I looked farther into the distance.

The space seemed infinite, but it also felt strangely intimate. Every movement of light passed close to me. Every shadow seemed to recognize my presence.

Then I noticed something.

The colors were not merely moving around me.

They were moving through me.

A thin stream of silver light passed into my consciousness, followed by a ribbon of darkness. Neither caused pain. Instead, they left behind faint sensations—memories that did not belong to me, emotions without names, and impressions of something ancient watching from beyond the boundaries of reality.

I suddenly felt very small.

Not weak.

Not helpless.

Simply small.

Like a single drop of water suspended within an ocean that had no shore.

"What is this place?" I asked again.

The Unique Attribute answered after a brief pause.

"It is a space beyond conventional divinity and darkness."

"Beyond gods and demons?"

"Those concepts are insufficient."

"Then what is it?"

"A place before definition."

I did not understand.

The words sounded impossible, but the realm itself was impossible. Perhaps ordinary language could not describe it.

I looked toward the distant boundary.

For one brief instant, I saw something beyond it.

A silhouette.

It was enormous, yet its size could not be measured. It seemed to exist outside the space, outside the flow of light and shadow. Its presence did not feel like that of a god.

A god, I thought, would belong to creation.

This presence felt older than creation itself.

The silhouette disappeared before I could focus on it.

"Was that someone?"

The Unique Attribute remained silent.

"Answer me."

"I cannot confirm what you saw."

"That means you know."

"I did not say that."

"You're avoiding the question."

"No answer can be provided at this time."

I wanted to argue, but the realm suddenly became still.

The flowing light stopped.

The moving shadows froze.

Even the distant rhythm seemed to fade for a moment.

Then, far away, something opened.

A narrow crack appeared in the flowing expanse of light and darkness. Beyond it was not another room or another realm.

It was a vast emptiness filled with distant stars.

Two enormous moons drifted across a dark sky.

Farther away, colors like an aurora stretched across the heavens.

The image lasted only a moment before closing.

But it was enough.

"That is the new world?"

"Yes."

"Am I going there?"

"Yes."

"Why am I here first?"

The Unique Attribute did not answer immediately.

Then it said:

"Your transition has not yet been completed."

"Transition?"

"Your previous existence has ended. Your next existence has not fully begun."

I looked around at the strange womb-like space.

"So I'm between lives?"

"That is an incomplete explanation, but it is acceptable for now."

"Am I still a soul?"

"Your current state cannot be accurately defined by the terminology of your former world."

That answer made me uneasy.

"What does that mean?"

"You are not merely a soul."

The words echoed inside me.

Not merely a soul.

I remembered the mysterious presence from before—the being who had spoken beyond the darkness. I remembered the strange feeling surrounding that voice, as if it belonged to something that existed outside the laws I understood.

Was this place connected to that being?

Was I connected to it?

I wanted to ask, but before I could form the question, the warmth around me intensified.

The rhythmic sound grew louder.

Thump.

Thump.

Thump.

The realm began to contract.

The light and darkness surrounding me drew closer, folding inward as though the entire space were preparing to release me.

"Wait. What's happening?"

"You are approaching the moment of birth."

"Already?"

"Yes."

"I still have questions!"

"You will have opportunities to seek answers."

"That isn't reassuring!"

For the first time, I sensed something almost like amusement in the Unique Attribute's voice.

Then the space shook.

A powerful force pulled me toward the distant opening. The colors blurred together. The stars vanished. The two moons disappeared behind a curtain of darkness.

I tried to resist, but I had no body with which to resist.

The last thing I saw was the endless union of silver light and black shadow.

And somewhere beyond them, the enormous silhouette remained still.

Watching.

Waiting.

Then I was pulled toward the new world.

The force pulling me toward the new world suddenly stopped.

The opening before me vanished.

The distant stars disappeared.

The two moons and the strange aurora were swallowed by silver light and endless darkness.

For a moment, I remained suspended in complete stillness.

Then I sensed something.

A presence.

It was not a sound, nor was it a physical shape. It was an existence so vast that my consciousness struggled to comprehend it.

The realm around me had become silent, but this silence was different from the emptiness I had experienced after death.

That earlier silence had been vacant.

This one was full.

It felt as though something ancient had become aware of me.

I tried to look around.

The silver light and black darkness continued to flow together, forming patterns that resembled the movement of stars across an endless sky.

Then, within that vast mixture, a figure began to appear.

It seemed humanoid, but that was only because my mind needed a familiar shape.

Its form was composed of radiance and shadow.

Silver light flowed across its body.

Darkness gathered around it.

Yet the two forces were not separate. They existed together, perfectly intertwined, as though light and darkness had never been opposing concepts in its presence.

I tried to speak, but no sound emerged.

Still, the being seemed to understand my thoughts.

"You have awakened."

The voice was familiar.

It was the same voice that had spoken to me after my death.

The same voice that had told me I would soon be born into a new world.

"You're the one who spoke to me before."

"Yes."

"Are you a god?"

"No."

"A demon?"

"No."

"Then what are you?"

The figure remained silent for a moment.

"I am not defined by those names."

The answer made me uneasy.

"Are you the one who brought me here?"

"No."

"Then who did?"

"You were not brought here by an ordinary being."

"That doesn't answer my question."

"No," the being replied. "It does not."

I stared at the figure.

There was something unsettling about its calmness. It did not behave like a god demanding worship or a demon seeking fear. It did not seem interested in proving its power.

It simply existed.

"What is this place?" I asked.

"Before I answer, you must understand something."

The being's voice seemed to pass through the entire realm.

"You are not standing in an ordinary space. You are within the boundary surrounding your unborn existence."

I fell silent.

"My unborn existence?"

"Yes."

The words slowly reached my understanding.

"Wait. Are you saying I'm still inside my mother's womb?"

"Your physical form has not yet entered the world. Your consciousness remains within the space that surrounds you."

I looked at the flowing silver and darkness.

"This is my mother's womb?"

"It is connected to it."

"Connected?"

"Your mother's existence cannot be described by the laws of ordinary worlds. The space within her is not merely a physical womb. It is a realm beyond the conventional division of divinity and darkness."

I could not respond.

A womb beyond divinity and darkness.

The words sounded impossible.

But nothing about this place followed the rules I knew.

"Then how was I able to speak with you?" I asked. "I'm still unborn. I don't even have a proper body."

"You were not speaking through a physical body."

"Then how?"

"Your consciousness was connected to your Unique Attribute."

I froze.

"My Unique Attribute?"

"Yes."

I remembered the voice that had spoken inside my mind earlier.

The voice that had identified itself as my Unique Attribute.

"So the voice I heard before… that was not you?"

"It was not me."

"Then it was my Unique Attribute?"

"Yes."

"Was it speaking from inside my mind?"

"That is the closest explanation your current understanding can accept."

I looked down, though I still had no physical body.

"Then how could it communicate with me while I was inside this place?"

"Your Unique Attribute is connected to your existence. It does not require a physical body, spoken language, or ordinary distance to communicate with you."

"So it has been with me this entire time?"

"It has been connected to you."

"That sounds different."

"It is different."

I frowned.

The being continued before I could ask another question.

"You are not an ordinary soul waiting to be placed into a body. Your existence is more complicated than that."

"What does that mean?"

"It means your current state cannot be accurately explained using the knowledge of your former world."

I remembered my death.

The rooftop.

Miyu's hand slipping away.

The fall.

Then the darkness.

"Am I still Akira Nakamura?"

"Yes."

The answer came without hesitation.

"Your memories, your experiences, and your identity remain part of you. However, the existence you are about to enter will not be identical to the one you left behind."

"Will I become someone else?"

"You will be born as yourself, but in a new form, within a new world."

"Will I remember my previous life?"

"Some memories may remain. Others may fade beneath the instincts and development of your new body."

"So I might forget everything?"

"Not everything."

The answer was not entirely comforting.

I looked toward the being again.

"You said I wasn't created by anyone."

"You were not."

"Then how did I come into existence?"

The being's form became still.

"You were born."

"Born from whom?"

"Your mother."

The word echoed through my consciousness.

My mother.

I had never known my biological mother in my previous life. I had been abandoned as a baby and raised by my grandfather.

Now, after dying, I was learning that I had a mother in another existence.

"Who is she?" I asked.

"She is a Supreme Deity Goddess."

The answer caused the realm to tremble faintly.

"A goddess?"

"That is the name used by those who are capable of recognizing only a small portion of her existence."

"So she is more than a goddess?"

"She is beyond the understanding of ordinary gods and creation."

I tried to understand what that meant.

"Was she created by someone?"

"No."

"Then who created her?"

"No one."

The answer was absolute.

"She was not created. She is not an ordinary existence born from the laws of creation."

"Then what is she?"

"That is not a question you are ready to have answered."

I felt a familiar irritation.

"Why does everyone keep saying that?"

"Because some truths become dangerous when understood before the proper time."

The words made the atmosphere feel heavier.

"Dangerous to me?"

"To you, and to those who would learn that you exist."

I fell silent.

The being continued:

"Your mother gave birth to you. She did not manufacture you, design you, or create you as an object. You are her child."

The statement affected me more deeply than I expected.

For eighteen years, I had lived without knowing where I came from. I had never understood why I had been abandoned. I had never known whether my biological parents had wanted me or regretted my existence.

Now I had been told that I was born from a being beyond gods and creation itself.

But instead of making me feel important, the truth made me feel strangely distant from everything I had once known.

"Why did she give birth to me?"

"That answer belongs to her."

"Will I meet her?"

"Yes."

"When?"

"When the time is right."

I wanted to ask more, but the realm suddenly began to tremble.

The distant rhythm returned.

Thump.

Thump.

Thump.

The silver light and darkness moved faster, folding around me like the walls of a living womb.

"What's happening?"

"You are approaching the moment of birth."

"Already?"

"Yes."

"But I still have questions!"

"You will have the opportunity to seek answers after your birth."

"That isn't reassuring!"

The being did not respond to my complaint.

Instead, it raised one hand.

The space before me opened once more.

Beyond it, I saw the new world.

A dark sky.

Two moons.

Unfamiliar stars.

A vast aurora flowing across the heavens.

The sight was beautiful, but the beauty carried something I could not identify.

A warning.

A promise.

Perhaps both.

"Will I remember this conversation?" I asked.

"Not clearly."

"Will I remember you?"

"Perhaps."

"Will I remember my mother?"

"Not at first."

"Then how will I know who I am?"

The being's voice became quieter.

"You will discover that through living."

The force surrounding me grew stronger.

I began to move toward the opening.

"Wait!" I called. "What should I call you?"

The being remained still.

"You may call me nothing."

"That's not a name."

"No name can contain what I am."

The opening widened.

The being's figure began to fade behind the mixture of light and darkness.

Before I was pulled away completely, its voice reached me one final time.

"Go, child of the Supreme Deity Goddess."

Then the realm vanished.

The warmth returned.

The rhythm became louder.

And I began to move toward the world where my second life would begin.

The warmth around me grew stronger.

The rhythmic sound that had once seemed distant now surrounded me completely.

Thump.

Thump.

Thump.

Each beat shook the space around my consciousness.

I could feel something changing.

The realm that had held me was no longer still. The silver light and darkness moved in slow circles, gathering around me as though preparing to send me somewhere.

Toward the new world.

Toward my second life.

Yet I could not stop thinking about what I had been told.

A mother beyond ordinary gods.

A birth that had not been caused by creation.

A Unique Attribute connected to my existence.

And a mysterious being who refused to reveal its true nature.

None of it made sense.

"Wait," I said.

My thought echoed through the realm.

The mysterious being had already disappeared, but its presence still lingered faintly around me.

"I need to know something."

The Unique Attribute answered from within my consciousness.

"What do you wish to know?"

"Do I have a choice?"

"A choice regarding what?"

"Whether I want to be reborn."

The Unique Attribute remained silent for a moment.

Then it answered.

"Yes."

The word surprised me.

"Really?"

"Yes. Your transition has not yet been completed."

"What happens if I refuse?"

"You will not enter the new world."

"And then?"

"Your consciousness will remain within this space until the transition becomes impossible."

"Will I die again?"

"Your current state is already beyond ordinary life and death."

That answer made me uncomfortable.

"So I can just stay here?"

"Yes."

"No pain?"

"No physical pain."

"No hunger?"

"No."

"No betrayal?"

"No."

The silence that followed felt strangely inviting.

I remembered my previous life.

The small apartment.

The unpaid bills.

The empty rooms.

The quiet meals eaten alone.

Ren's death.

Miyu's hand slipping away from mine.

The feeling of realizing that, even at the very end, I had not been the person someone chose to save.

Perhaps remaining here would be easier.

I would never have to trust anyone again.

I would never have to hope again.

I would never have to experience that kind of disappointment.

"Then why should I go?" I asked.

The Unique Attribute did not answer immediately.

When it finally spoke, its voice remained calm.

"I cannot decide that for you."

"That's not what I asked."

"You asked why you should go. There is no answer that applies to every existence."

I frowned.

"Then tell me what awaits me."

"A world filled with life, possibility, danger, and uncertainty."

"That sounds vague."

"It is accurate."

"Will I suffer?"

"Yes."

The answer was immediate.

I felt my thoughts grow still.

"Will I lose people?"

"Yes."

"Will people betray me?"

"It is possible."

"Will I be abandoned again?"

"It is possible."

The words should have made me refuse.

Instead, I found myself asking another question.

"Will I be happy?"

The Unique Attribute paused.

"Happiness is not guaranteed."

"That's a terrible sales pitch."

"I am not attempting to persuade you."

For some reason, I almost laughed.

The voice continued.

"Your second life will not erase your first life. The pain you experienced will remain part of your history. But it does not have to determine every choice you make."

I stared into the flowing light.

I had spent my entire first life trying to survive.

I had believed that if I worked hard enough, endured enough, and expected little enough, I could avoid being hurt.

But avoiding pain had never given me a meaningful life.

It had only made my world smaller.

"What if I become someone I don't recognize?" I asked.

"That possibility exists."

"What if I forget everything?"

"That possibility exists."

"What if I trust someone again and they betray me?"

"That possibility exists."

I closed my eyes.

There it was again.

The same fear.

The same wound.

But beneath it, something else remained.

Curiosity.

I wanted to see the new world.

I wanted to know what existed beneath those two moons. I wanted to hear languages I had never learned and witness things that had been impossible in my former life.

Perhaps I wanted to discover whether life could become something other than survival.

"Will I have a family?" I asked.

"I cannot determine every relationship you will form."

"But will I have someone?"

"Your future will contain connections."

Connections.

Not promises.

Not guarantees.

But perhaps that was enough.

I looked toward the opening where the new world waited.

"I don't want to stay her

e forever."

"Then you have made your decision."

I hesitated.

"Wait. I have one condition."

"What is it?"

"I don't want to be controlled."

The Unique Attribute answered without delay.

"I will not control your choices."

"And the being who spoke to me?"

"I cannot speak on behalf of that existence."

"Then my mother?"

"Your mother's intentions are not mine to explain."

I sighed.

"Everyone is hiding something."

"That is often the nature of existence."

I looked at the swirling light and darkness.

"Fine."

The word felt strangely small compared to the decision behind it.

"I'll go."

The realm began to respond.

The silver light brightened.

The darkness pulled away.

The rhythm surrounding me became louder and faster.

Thump.

Thump.

Thump.

A pressure formed around my consciousness, gently but firmly pushing me toward the opening.

"Is this it?" I asked.

"Yes."

"Will I be able to think like this after I'm born?"

"Your mind will be influenced by your new body."

"Will I be able to understand people?"

"Not immediately."

"Will I be able to speak?"

"Not immediately."

"So I'll be helpless."

"You will be an infant."

"That is exactly what I meant."

For a moment, the Unique Attribute said nothing.

Then it added:

"Your consciousness will remain yours, even if your ability to express it is limited."

That was not entirely reassuring, but it helped.

The opening ahead widened.

Beyond it, I sensed warmth, movement, and unfamiliar life.

I could hear something faint.

Voices.

Not inside my mind.

Outside.

Real voices.

I could not understand the words, but their presence made the new world feel closer.

The force pulled me forward.

"Before I go," I said, "tell me one thing."

"What?"

"Is my new life already decided?"

"No."

"Then what determines it?"

"Your choices. The choices of others. Circumstances. Chance. And forces you have yet to encounter."

"That sounds complicated."

"It is."

I took one final look at the realm beyond divinity and darkness.

I still did not understand where I had come from.

I did not know the truth about my mother.

I did not know why I had been born, why I had died, or why my existence seemed connected to something far greater than an ordinary reincarnation.

But I had chosen to continue.

The light surrounded me.

The darkness folded behind me.

The distant voices grew louder.

And my consciousness began to descend into the fragile form of a newborn child.

The last thought I had before the transition was simple.

This time, I want to live.

Warmth.

That was the first thing I felt.

Not the distant warmth of light or the strange mixture of darkness and divinity that had surrounded me before birth.

This warmth was different.

It was close.

Real.

It wrapped around me like a soft blanket, carrying a sense of safety I had almost forgotten existed.

Then came the sound.

A voice.

"...The child has been born."

The words reached me through the haze surrounding my consciousness.

The child.

I realized they were talking about me.

My body felt impossibly small. My limbs moved without purpose, and a strange pressure filled my chest. Before I could understand what was happening, a cry escaped my mouth.

A loud, trembling cry.

I had been born.

I was alive.

The realization should have filled me with relief.

Instead, I felt overwhelmed.

The world was too loud.

The air felt unfamiliar against my skin. My body was cold, then warm, then cold again as someone carefully lifted me. I could sense movement around me, several presences standing nearby.

I tried to open my eyes.

At first, everything was blurred.

Shapes appeared through a veil of brightness. I could make out the outline of someone standing close to me.

My mother.

I knew it instinctively.

Even without seeing her clearly, something inside me recognized her presence. A quiet connection existed between us, deeper than words or memory.

I tried to focus.

Just once.

I wanted to see her face.

But the light surrounding her was too strong. Her features remained hidden behind a soft, indistinct radiance. I could only see the vague shape of her figure.

Then, for a brief moment, I felt something.

A gentle touch.

Not against my skin, but against my very existence.

It was a feeling of affection so vast that I could not understand it. There was no demand in it. No expectation. No condition.

Only warmth.

Only love.

Before I could reach toward it, the presence began to fade.

"Wait..."

The word never left my mouth.

I was still incapable of speaking.

The figure disappeared from my blurred vision, and the connection became distant.

I did not see her face.

I never had the chance.

The loss left an unfamiliar emptiness inside me.

A moment later, the atmosphere changed.

The people around me began to move.

"The child must be taken away immediately."

Their voices were quiet, but serious.

"He cannot remain here."

"Where should he be brought?"

"To the mortal realm."

There was a brief silence.

"Find someone trustworthy. Someone who will raise him with care and will not question what he is."

My tiny body was wrapped in soft cloth. I felt myself being carried away from the place where I had been born.

I wanted to resist.

I wanted to ask where my mother was going.

I wanted to know why I had to leave so soon.

But I could do nothing.

I was only a newborn.

The Unique Attribute remained silent within me, as though it understood that this was not a moment for explanations.

The surroundings gradually changed.

The overwhelming presence of the mysterious realm weakened. The strange pressure surrounding my existence disappeared little by little, replaced by the ordinary sensations of the physical world.

Air.

Movement.

Footsteps.

The faint scent of earth and wood.

I had entered the mortal realm.

Eventually, I was brought to a quiet place.

The sound of bells drifted through the air. Somewhere nearby, birds were singing, and the wind moved gently through the trees.

A monastery.

I could not see it clearly, but I could feel its peaceful atmosphere.

The person carrying me stopped before someone else.

"This child must be entrusted to you."

A woman's voice answered, gentle and uncertain.

"Me?"

"Yes. Raise him as you would raise your own child."

There was a pause.

"Why are you bringing him here?"

"That is not something you need to know."

The woman fell silent.

I felt myself being placed into her arms.

Her embrace was careful, almost hesitant at first. Then her hold became steadier, protective.

She looked down at me.

I could not see her face clearly, but I could feel the kindness in her presence.

"He is so small..."

The person who had brought me spoke again.

"Keep his existence hidden. There are those who would worship him, fear him, or attempt to use him if they learned the truth."

The woman's arms tightened slightly around me.

"And if someone comes looking for him?"

"Do not allow them to take him."

The voice became firm.

"If danger approaches, leave this place. His safety must come first."

The woman remained silent for a long moment.

Then she answered softly.

"I understand."

The footsteps behind us began to fade.

I wanted to look back.

I wanted to see the place I had come from.

But my eyes were still heavy, and my body could no longer remain awake.

The woman adjusted the cloth around me and held me closer.

"You're safe now," she whispered.

Those words reached deeper into me than she could have known.

Safe.

It was a simple word.

Yet, after everything that had happened in my previous life, it felt almost impossible to believe.

I had been betrayed.

I had been abandoned.

I had died believing that I had never been chosen by anyone.

And now, in a world I knew nothing about, someone was holding me as though my life mattered.

My consciousness began to grow faint.

The Unique Attribute remained quietly connected to my soul.

The world around me blurred into darkness.

But this darkness was not the empty silence I had experienced after death.

It was peaceful.

It was warm.

For the first time since my death, I did not feel afraid of what would come next.

I had been given another life.

I did not know what awaited me.

I did not know who I would become.

I did not know why I had been born into this world, or what secrets surrounded my existence.

But I was alive.

And this time...

I would try to live.

With that thought, I closed my eyes.

My second life had begun.
