Chapter 29:
Guardian of Wind
Those weeks and months after Lucius reached out to the Masters in Akkadia would stay with me as strongly as the moment my auntie sent me into the future. I don’t know what she had wanted me to do, but maybe we’d achieved what she wished for. It was true we couldn’t recreate what we'd once had, but together with the Council and the villages, we found a new way.
They decided to cease the forced labour they’d set up to feed the Worms with fear, and we taught the villagers to touch the Flow. With the Council’s knowledge, we learnt how to reach into the realm of the Worms, only to discover that we could kill them in their dwellings, without the Council’s weapon. Over time, they were hunted down until they must have understood there was nowhere to hide. I can still remember the day the Council announced the Worms had left us altogether.
Little by little, we truly built something new that could echo for generations to come.
