Chapter 1: The Transfer Student
My name is Kang Yu-ri, and I have a system.
College life is easier when you sort people. Normal Days, Special Days, and Introduction Days. The worst are Introduction Days. New people, new questions, new chances for them to find out about my side account.
On Instagram, I am not Kang Yu-ri, the quiet Business major in a black blazer. I am "The Producer." 11k followers. I make edits for the K-pop group Z-Verse, especially their leader Jin.
My system worked for two years. Until today.
"Class, we have a transfer student," Professor Kim said.
The door opened. He walked in wearing a beige sweater vest, black tie, glasses that were too big. Hair neatly combed.
"Hello, I am Park Tae-jun. Please take care of me."
Nobody reacted. Except me.
I knew that jawline. I knew those hands. I had made 47 edits of those hands.
That was Jin. From Z-Verse. On "health hiatus" for the last month.
What was he doing in my Business Statistics class as a nerd named Park Tae-jun?
He sat right behind me.
"Do you have a pen?" he whispered.
I gave him a pen without turning. My hand was shaking.
After class, I tried to escape fast.
"Hey. Kang Yu-ri?"
How did he know my name?
He held out my Z-Verse lightstick keychain. It fell from my bag.
"I like Z-Verse too," he said quietly.
"Oh? I just casually listen."
"I know," he said. "You're The Producer, right? Your 11-second loop edit of Jin's eye smile was good."
The hallway went silent.
"What?"
"I'm just Park Tae-jun here. Company wants me to live as a normal student for one month. No one can know."
"Then why tell me?"
"Because you know how to keep a secret."
He gave my pen back and walked away.
When I got to my dorm, I had a new DM. From the verified account of Z-Verse Jin.
It said: You didn't wash your blazer. There is ink on the sleeve. - PTJ
I looked. There was ink.
My Normal Days were over.
