Harrison Wells did not believe Barry Allen had just met the man who killed his mother.
Because Harrison was that man.
But he did believe Barry may have encountered another speedster. That was the reason Harrison wanted to find this person.
Who was this speedster?
Had he obtained the Speed Force from the particle accelerator explosion, just like Barry Allen? Would his existence help Harrison, or benefit him in some way?
Harrison questioned Barry carefully and in detail about every part of his encounter with the speedster. He even pulled surveillance footage from that location. Unfortunately, whether the other man had known in advance or simply gotten lucky, the relevant stretch of footage happened to be broken. For the moment, they could only set it aside.
With no clues for now, Barry Allen could only leave S.T.A.R. Labs.
Caitlin Snow left not long after.
Barry's description made her increasingly suspect that the person was Damon. Damon had never shown super speed before, but it was too coincidental. Damon had appeared, and this person had appeared. He also knew about Barry Allen.
Damon had tricked her before, whether by kidnapping her for the sonic equipment or getting her dragged into trouble afterward. Even so, Caitlin felt Damon did not seem like that kind of villain. Barry's mother had died more than ten years earlier. How old could Damon have been then?
Back home, Caitlin glanced nervously toward the door from time to time, waiting for Damon to arrive.
Night deepened.
Before she knew it, it was after nine. Caitlin had turned on the television, but muted the sound. Time seemed to grow very long.
Knock, knock, knock.
The sudden knock made Caitlin jump. She hurried to the door.
"You finally came."
Caitlin let out a breath of relief as she saw Damon standing outside.
Damon smiled and lifted the red wine in his hand.
"This took some time."
"You cannot drink before a physical exam," Caitlin said blankly.
"After the exam, we can."
Damon smiled and stepped inside, looking around.
The layout was unusual. There seemed to be only one bedroom, but the living room was especially large. In the corner stood a lab bench and several machines, which suited Caitlin perfectly.
"You live alone?" Damon asked casually.
"You are the one who said I was suited to being single," Caitlin complained.
Damon laughed softly. When he saw her, he noticed she did not have the grief of someone whose boyfriend had died.
"Is there someone named Ronnie Raymond at S.T.A.R. Labs?"
"Why do you know so much about S.T.A.R. Labs?"
Caitlin asked again in suspicion, then answered.
"Ronnie did work for S.T.A.R. Labs. On the night of the particle accelerator explosion, he risked his life going down to the accelerator to stop the blast from destroying the whole lab. In the end..."
"He was a hero," Caitlin said with feeling.
"So nothing happened between you two?"
Damon asked curiously. After all, in the show, Ronnie Raymond was not only the first Firestorm to merge with Martin Stein, but also Caitlin Snow's fiance.
"Our personalities were not very compatible."
Caitlin shook her head.
"Oh."
Damon did not press further. He smiled and said, "Do we start now? Do I need to take everything off?"
"No. You can... you can keep your shorts on."
Caitlin spoke.
"Fine."
Damon was also interested in knowing his current condition.
He stripped down to his shorts and, under Caitlin's red-faced instructions, completed a series of routine tests. It took more than an hour before everything was finished.
"From the routine examinations, you are very healthy and have no problems. But the DNA results will take a while."
Damon nodded, removed the equipment attached to him, and walked to the sofa to wait.
"Aren't you going to put your clothes on first?" Caitlin asked hesitantly.
"Do not act innocent after enjoying the view. A body like mine, with this kind of size, is rare."
Damon grinned.
Caitlin blushed and spat a soft complaint, then asked, "I want to ask you something. Do you have super speed? And did you meet Barry Allen this afternoon?"
"Yes," Damon answered casually.
Caitlin was shocked.
"Really?"
"You do not believe me?"
Damon suddenly gave a wicked smile and activated the Speed Force. Red lightning circled Caitlin. Before she could react, Damon had returned to where he had been, now holding a piece of clothing.
"This... this looks familiar."
Seeing Damon wave the clothing with that bad smile, Caitlin looked down and instinctively covered herself.
Wasn't that what she had just been wearing?
"When did you... how did you do that?"
Caitlin had not noticed a thing.
"Why cover yourself? You are still wearing underwear. Besides, if I truly wanted to see, could you stop me? If I went further, you might not even feel it."
Damon laughed.
"Who says? Would I not know whether it hurt?"
Caitlin shot back by instinct.
"Hurt?"
Damon looked at Caitlin with a faintly amused expression.
Caitlin shouted in embarrassment, "Are you bored enough to use your power for this?"
"Powers are for using. What else would I do, keep them as decoration?"
Damon answered casually.
"How did you get super speed? And..."
Caitlin hesitated over whether she should ask.
"Did you kill Barry Allen's mother?"
"Because my Speed Force lightning is red?" Damon asked.
"Yes."
Caitlin nodded awkwardly.
"Stop worrying. It was not me."
Damon smiled.
"Good."
Caitlin let out a long breath.
Damon casually placed Caitlin's clothes aside, opened the wine, and said, "Why did you not ask whether I was telling the truth? You seem more confident about me not killing Barry's mother than about me having the Speed Force."
Beep, beep, beep.
Caitlin had just been about to speak when the instruments reported results.
"The results are in."
Caitlin turned to the computer and looked at the report, then frowned.
"Strange. How can this be?"
"Is there a problem?"
Damon appeared beside the computer with a whoosh.
"No. Your physical condition and DNA are exactly the same as an ordinary person's. That is what makes it strange. You can discharge electricity, and you have super speed. Under normal circumstances, your genes should have changed."
Caitlin frowned, unable to understand.
