Chapter 2:
Stuck in Time
Days had passed and surprisingly, Kylo was managing well.
If he could, he would live in this century for long but he knew he couldn't do that. He left his friends who he considered as family back in the future, all are still fighting and surviving just to be able to live for one day.
In the present time, or what Kylo calls it right now, the time traveller thanked the old butler after he finished eating lunch. Surprisingly, he doesn't see Jenillyn during mornings. Sebastian said that she was sleeping as she was busy during the night.
It was fine for Kylo, since that means, the woman won't be disturbing him with random questions.
"What was future like?"
"Did they finally kill all these obnoxious men?"
"Don't tell me there are still kings and queens?"
"Are the meals better in the future?"
The time traveller would always answer with a simple 'yeah', or nods as he was always so invested with his work.
Luckily, his device was still working well after the attacks before he left his timeline. He might just need to go out into the town later in the evening since there were some parts that Jenillyn doesn't seem to have, no matter how much she insisted that she has everything.
While he was working, Kylo just knew that the woman was finally awake when she can hear her rushing steps and her always so loud question of, "Is it done yet?!" as she barged open the door.
The first few days, the man would jump in shock but lately, he was getting used to Jenillyn's chaotic energy.
Kylo noticed Jenillyn's restless, unhinged and unpredictable behavior but he doesn't take note of it very much since he has more priorities that he has to set his mind on.
"No." The man simply answered as he worked while the woman slumped on the couch and whined.
"How long?" She asked, dragging the words as she complained like a child.
"Not very long, I'll just go to the town if you don't mind." Kylo stood up from where he was working.
"Talk to Sebastian about the expenses." Jenillyn grumbled from the couch. The man ignored the woman's tantrums and left to find the old butler.
Once he did, Jenillyn lifted her head to stare at the glowing device, the light emitting core made her stare at it before she stood up to approach it.
The vampiress knows nothing about technologies or anything about science, but she knew her blood has some kind of a reaction to everything, it can kill, cure, hypnotize, and also seduce. Out of curiousity, she pricked her finger and let a drop of blood fall into the core.
Jenillyn stared at it and waited for a reaction but unfortunately, there doesn't seem to have any visual changes.
The vampire rolled her eyes and left the boring device to go hunt.
Meanwhile, Kylo was roaming around town, looking through the furniture stores but since there are no appliances found in this era and the closest the man can use were heavy machineries, hence why went to the vehicle shops instead.
While in there and waiting for the store owner to fetch him his equipments and materials, he heard some of the workers there talking to each other.
"Did you hear? Someone died in the forest a week ago... again! Bloody gore I say... it doesn't look like the work of an animal. It looked much much worse."
"I hear the old geezers mumbling about vampires and werewolves... this is what happens when they learn how to read... they began to think those fantasies are real."
Kylo's eavesdropping was interrupted when th store owner came back. The man looked at the equipments and materials before paying, letting the store owner's men bring the items to his wagon.
"That's some load of thingamajig in there lad." One of the previous gossiping worker chuckled.
The time traveller chuckled sheepishly, "Uh... yeah.... just inventing something."
The workers were amazed, "Oh! We've got a local inventor! Don't 'ya forget about us when you become reach and famous, ey?" An older man laughed and pat his back.
"Where do you live young lad?"
"Just beyond the forest..." Kylo quietly answered, knowing that it was the same forest that these men were gossiping about.
"Really now? Never seen any vampires lingering about?"
The younger man looked at the nosy and cautious workers awkwardly, "Not really... well... uhm... thanks for the help." He said and gave them a bag of coins. 'Jenillyn wouldn't mind, right?' He thought to himself as the men cheered for the generous tip.
Kylo road his wagon and began riding back into the forest.
It was really dark and the only light there is was his lamp.
The man tried to ignore his own fear of the rumored monster in the forest, he just kept his eyes on the road while maintaning a steady pace.
Kylo read about vampires, werewolves and other tales of supernatural beings before.
He has no opinion about them being real or not since his timeline barely have anything for him to ponder about such nonsense. He simply found the tales entertaining and it served as his escapism from the ruined world.
Plus, he thought about the logical explanation as to why it wasn't real. Jenillyn, a noble woman, was living deep in the forest with her servants and nothing bad had happened to them so far.
Kylo sighed and shook his head before his wagon ran over something making him focus back on the road since the horses began to panic, "Shh... Shh... It's okay..." The man patted them once he got off.
The man took the lamp from the wagon's bracket to have a closer look on what he run over, but as the light lit up the road, there was a trail of blood.
Kylo felt a shudder run up his spine as he nervously followed the trail behind the wagon.
His hold on the lamp weakened as his limbs felt weak at the sight of a lifeless and bloody body of a woman.
Kylo's breath quickened in panic and before he can rush back on the wagon, he heard a whisper behind him.
"Oh, so you saw..."
