Chapter 1:

Blue hour is coming

Blue hour

CHAPTER 1 - BLUE HOUR IS COMING
Hours later, the train stopped.
Akito stepped onto the platform. The air was cooler. Quieter. Birds. Trees. No traffic. No buildings. Just mountains, narrow roads, houses, and a river beyond.
He raised his camera. Click. The village.
Beside the railway fence, a small blue flower. Half-hidden in the grass.
He crouched. Reached for it.
The world went quiet. Not silent. Distant. The wind slowed. The light changed. The flower glowed.
He looked up. The sky was deep blue. He blinked. It was normal again.
"What was that?"
He took a photo. Click. On the screen, everything looked normal. Except at the edge. A blurry figure. A girl. He zoomed in. Pixelated. Zoomed out. Gone.
"Akito!"
Hana stood at the station entrance, smiling. "Grandma."
He picked up his bag. Looked at the flower once more. For a second, he thought he heard his name.
"Akito..." He turned. Only trees. Only the railway. Only the summer sky.
That evening, Akito sat in the garden behind Hana's house.
The village was beautiful. He didn't want to admit it. The city never stopped moving. Here, everything had forgotten how.
Hana fed birds on the porch. "You've taken more photos today than words." "That's normal."
He looked at the mountains. The road. The flower. The sky. The train. All of it felt connected.
Then the sky changed. Again. Deeper blue. The light didn't fade, it just left. The garden went quiet.
On the road, a girl stood. Long dark-brown hair. Red ribbon. Flowers in her hands. Looking straight at him.
Akito froze. Blinked. Gone.
His camera slipped. "Who...?" "What is it?" Hana asked. "Nothing."
He checked the camera. Black screen. Then it turned on. A new photo.
His breathing stopped.
The girl. Under the blue sky. Timestamp: tomorrow.
He hadn't taken it. But his camera already knew her.
That night, Akito couldn't sleep. Rain tapped the window. The photo sat beside him. The girl. The flowers. The blue sky. Something familiar in her expression. Like a memory he didn't have.
He closed his eyes. Saw the blue sky. Saw the girl. Heard a voice. Close.
"Don't forget me."
He opened his eyes. Dark room. Fast heartbeat. Reached for the photo. Gone. It was on the floor. He picked it up.
The girl was still there. But now, in the background—a boy. By the river. Holding a camera. Wearing Akito's clothes.
His hands trembled. He flipped it. Three words on the back:
BLUE HOUR IS COMING.
Outside, the rain continued. Somewhere beyond the village, a train cut through the dark. Its lights lit the trees. For one second, Akito saw her. Between them. Watching. Waiting.
Then the train was gone. And so was she.
Akito stayed awake until morning. He didn't know it yet. But tomorrow was the beginning. The beginning of a memory that started before he lived it.
