Chapter 1:

False Heros

Severed Accord

Shinjuku was swallowed by a dark, beautiful rainy night. Neon billboard lights flashed from towering skyscrapers, bleeding electric blue and hot pink onto the wet asphalt. Underneath the glow, a sea of umbrellas moved in a synchronized, faceless crowd. The heavy downpour echoed in a steady, deafening hum—a relentless hiss that drowned out the city's pulse.

People think blessings make you a hero. They are wrong. In this world, magic isn't a gift. It is a burden running through a person's veins.

Right on cue, a vibrant purple droplet leaked from a hidden wound on Tenkai’s hand splashed softly into a dark puddle. Bleed it all out, and you die. Sorcerers call this fluid Divinity. Binding to an Accord is the only way to harness it.

High above the wet streets, a massive television screen displayed a roaring arena crowd. They cheered for a "Vanguard Hero" clad in pristine white armor. The man flashed a perfect, media-trained smile for the cameras.

Regular civilians worshipped The Vanguard like heroes, blind to the truth.

They cut away their own humanity for power. They were just government-funded hunters who would execute a sorcerer for a paycheck.

Shoving his hands deep into his pockets, seventeen-year-old Tenkai Amagiri walked through the downpour. Standing at a towering six-foot-seven, his messy black bed hair was soaked, clinging to his face in sharp curtain bangs that framed a pair of piercing, magenta eyes.

Beside him walked Wataru Kageyama, matching Tenkai's massive height. Wataru’s long purple hair was tied back in a neat ponytail, dark silver earrings catching the neon glare to match the icy blue of his eyes. Both boys wore oversized techwear jackets, the embroidered design of the Twin Eastern Dragons snaking across their shoulders.

Tenkai forced his breathing to stay even. Everyone expects an unkillable god simply because I'm the last heir of the Amagiri clan. One of the 4 Sovereign clans. The Directorate board actually believed I've mastered my power.

The bastards can think what they want, Tenkai thought, his jaw clenching. They treat my name like a brand, ignoring that my own power is ripping me apart.

Silently, Tenkai adjusted three heavy metallic rings slotted onto his left fingers. The second his skin brushed the cold metal, a subtle distortion warped the air around his knuckles, fracturing the falling raindrops into white misty lines. His physical presence desynchronized, fighting the timeline. A sharp, familiar ache tore at his body.

Tenkai tilted his chin up, forcing a smug, confident smirk to mask the strain.

"The world is moving faster than me tonight," Tenkai muttered, clicking the rings into place.

Wataru didn't look up from his handheld device, his expression deadpan.

"Force it together, Tenkai. You're leaking divinity all over the concrete."

"Please, I've got this handled," Tenkai shot back, a competitive glint flaring in his eyes.

"Don't act like you aren't getting sluggish, Wata."

Wataru casually pressed a button on his device, his voice dropping an octave.

"I was holding back to spare you, Tenkai."

"Don't confuse my mercy for being slow."

"Honestly, if you two are measuring egos, do it quietly," a flat voice called out.

Standing right beneath the glowing neon awning of a convenience store was sixteen-year-old Kuruma Himuro, holding a plastic bag. She stood at five-foot-six-and-a-half, her striking split black-and-white hair tied up in a messy bun secured by two black hairpins. Her leather jacket featured the first-year Sea Turtle emblem on the shoulder. She watched the two towering sorcerers with a blank face.

Under Kuruma's left eye, a permanent, branded raindrop mark glowed faintly under the neon store lights. Noticing the mark was exposed to the street, Wataru stepped forward. He gently pulled the hood of her jacket down, shadowing her face.

"Keep your hood up, Himuro," Wataru warned, his blue eyes scanning the dark street.

"Vanguard patrols are out. Your head is worth millions."

Kuruma yanked her hood tighter, her expression going dead serious.

"I haven't forgotten," she whispered back, leaning away from him.

"But listening to you two bicker will kill me first."

Tenkai let out a sharp, mocking laugh, hooking his thumbs into his jacket with a smug grin.

"Hey, watch the attitude, kid," Tenkai smirked.

"Walking with the Amagiri and Kageyama houses is a privilege."

Wataru didn't look up from his device. "Don't loop me into your delusions, Tenkai."

"I'm just making sure you don't trip again."

Kuruma let out a quiet, sarcastic snort from beneath her hood. "See? Even your own partner thinks you're a joke."

Tenkai tilted his chin up, a cold, unbothered grin cutting across his face. "Keep talking, both of you," Tenkai glanced at them dismissively.

"When fighting starts, you'll beg the joke to save you."

Kuruma is a massive target, Tenkai reminded himself, forcing his breathing to stay steady. She's one of the eight Successors to the 8 divine pillars of divinity. The creators of divinity itself. If the Vanguard catch her, everything gets erased.

Wataru gave Tenkai a small thumbs up, continuing to play on his phone.

He hid the physical strain of his injuries behind a cold, stubborn smirk. He wasn't going to let her see him stumble.

Ignoring Tenkai's arrogance, Kuruma started walking with the boys. She reached into her plastic bag and pulled out a keychain with a chubby, perfectly round frog plushie. Her eyes lit up with genuine delight as she held it up to the neon lights.

"Take a look at this, Wataru!" Kuruma beamed, full of excitement.

"They had limited-edition froggy charms. My life is complete!"

Wataru glanced down, giving a slight, indifferent nod. "Nice. It’s built like a bowling ball."

Kuruma instantly pulled the plushie defensively against her chest, shielding it.

"Shut up! You're just jealous! He's perfect."

Wataru didn't lift his eyes from his screen. His voice remained monotone and ruthless.

"If you love it so much, marry it."

"ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!" Kuruma snapped, her face flushing a fiery red.

She violently shook the round frog plushie directly in Wataru’s stoic face. In the background, Tenkai let out a dry, sarcastic chuckle, checking his fingernails.

"Brutal, Wata. Zero mercy for the freshman. I respect it."

"If I throw Mr. Croak, even your speed won't save you."

"Try it," Wataru muttered, his voice dropping into a cold threat.

"I'll drag that frog down so hard it will crack concrete."

The trio stepped off the main Shinjuku street, turning into a narrow, dark alleyway shortcut back to the hidden Tokyo Academy entrance. Tenkai adjusted his high-collar jacket, his magenta eyes narrowing as he stared into the pitch-black corners.

"Cut the frog talk," Tenkai commanded, his voice dropping low.

"We're off the main roads. No crowds or cameras."

"Stay behind Wataru. I call first dibs on any enemies."

"Don't worry about me, I'm right behind you," Kuruma muttered, her hand shifting closer to the hairpins in her pocket.

"Keep dreaming," Wataru muttered, his low voice cutting through the alleyway.

"If anything drops, they are mine."

Tenkai rolled his eyes, looking dramatically offended. "Wow. Cold as always. No snacks for you later."

"I'll buy my own," Wataru replied flatly.

Wataru quietly pocketed his device, his posture shifting into perfect pacing with Tenkai’s movements. Kuruma walked alongside them, keeping her eyes on the shadows.

"A giant ego and his tank," she mused flatly.

"Amazing. I feel so much safer now."

A sharp grin cut across Tenkai’s face. "Hey, you wanted to tag along. Enjoy free security."

“I didn’t ask for security.” Kuruma mumbled, crossing her arms.

The playful edge vanished into the shadows the deeper they walked. Wataru stopped abruptly, his hand dropping away from his pocket. His deadpan expression hardened into something freezing cold as he looked over his shoulder.

"Looks like Kai jinxed us," Wataru muttered in a flat command.

"We're being watched."

Tenkai snapped into focus. His fierce magenta eyes locked onto the blackness ahead. He pulled the high collar of his jacket up over his nose, his posture shifting into a deadly, silent readiness.

"Yeah. I felt it too," Tenkai whispered beneath the fabric of his jacket.

"Let's kill them fast and get back to the academy."

Kuruma reached up, her thumb lightly flicking the edge of her signature hairpins. "This is seriously getting annoying."

The alleyway went suffocatingly quiet. The relentless hiss of the rain felt louder against the tight brick walls. For several agonizing seconds, nothing moved.

Then, the concrete beneath their feet began to vibrate.

A sudden, deafening crash shattered the night. The brick wall at the dead end violently ruptured, spitting dust and jagged chunks of masonry into the pouring rain. Through the rising, heavy smoke, a massive silhouette stepped forward, his eyes gleaming with a harsh, unnatural light.

"Found you," a distorted voice echoed through the rubble.

"Little Rain Successor."

The smoke slowly cleared under the downpour, revealing Kazan, a Vanguard soldier. He had messy brown hair, tired, hollow eyes, and wore bulky, reinforced plate armor.

Kazan stepped over the shattered stone, flashing a fake, hero smile.

"The name's Kazan," he said, adjusting heavy metal straps on his forearms.

"That girl behind you has a multi-million yen bounty."

"Step aside and walk out alive. Or stay."

Kuruma didn't flinch. She stepped right between Tenkai and Wataru, adjusting a black hairpin with a fierce glare.

"Is that all my life is worth to you?" Kuruma spat.

"If you want to collect, try and take it."

Wataru shifted his weight, stepping forward to shield her. The heavy industrial chain running down his spine caught the dull neon glare. Beside him, Tenkai's fingers blurred with a white, misty distortion—the time lag fracturing the falling raindrops.

"Go," Wataru muttered, his voice flat and steady. "I have her. Just kill him."

"Finally," Tenkai replied, a chillingly polite, arrogant smile cutting across his face.

Tenkai locked his magenta eyes onto the rogue hunter, a sharp, mocking grin cutting across his face.

"At least try, Kazan," Tenkai scoffed. "You're already wide open."

Kazan roared, a guttural sound echoing off the damp brick walls. A massive surge of red energy erupted from his pores, his tattoos flaring to life as his body hardened into a thick, jagged shroud of raw iron aura. The sheer weight of his energy split the concrete beneath his boots.

He lunged, throwing a devastating, sonic-booming fist straight at Tenkai's chest.

Tenkai stood his ground, the sudden wind pressure from the incoming strike whipping his soaked hair wildly. At the absolute last millisecond, his eyes flashed.

13th hour accord: Time Skip

Kazan’s heavy iron fist slammed straight through Tenkai's chest, tearing through his oversized jacket as if he were a ghost. The edges of Tenkai's body blurred into a jagged, overlapping glitch line, the air visibly warping as space and time violently desynchronized.

But because Kazan's fist had collided with a displaced point in time, a brutal jolt of temporal fatigue traveled right back up his arm. Decades of concentrated physical strain crashed into the hunter's limb all at once. Kazan's forearm visibly wrinkled and withered beneath his armor, freezing stiff and exhausted mid-strike.

Tenkai snapped back into the present timeline, casually stepping around the frozen hunter.

"Too slow," he muttered, ducking beneath the locked limb.

He drove a heavy straight punch directly into the center of Kazan’s exposed ribs.

13th hour accord: Delayed Verdict

Kazan blinked, expecting a crushing impact—but he felt absolutely nothing. Instead, a glowing, neon hot-pink digital countdown timer burned directly into his skin where the fist had connected. The numbers rapidly dropped.

Tenkai pivoted on his heel, walking away into the rain without looking back.

TICK. TICK. TICK.

The countdown hit zero.

A massive, compressed shockwave erupted from inside Kazan's chest. The frozen kinetic force exploded all at once, shattering his bones and throwing his heavy frame through the air, slamming him violently into the brick wall.

"Commander!"

A dozen masked enforcers broke from the darkness of the main street, drawing specialized weapons to back up their fallen leader.

Wataru stepped forward, dropping his center of gravity. He didn't draw a blade. He didn't raise a shield. He didn't even move his hands.

Infinite Atlas Mass Accord: Sovereign Spine

The invisible, crushing weight of the Shadow Demon King, Kage-Ryu, locked directly onto his neck and spine, anchoring him with a suffocating force of 13,000 pounds. Because his muscles and bones fought this pressure every single second just to stand upright, his physical density was inhuman. He was a living anvil.

Three Vanguard enforcers lunged simultaneously, driving steel daggers straight at his exposed throat.

Wataru stood perfectly still, not even flinching. The blades crashed against his bare skin, ringing out like metal striking solid stone before shattering into a shower of jagged shards.

Infinite Atlas Mass Accord: Impact Absorption

Wataru’s body swallowed the entire kinetic shockwave. Kage-Ryu's dense gravity trapped the vibrations within his cells, instantly converting the enemies' own speed and power into raw fuel. A heavy, crackling purple static charge began to ripple violently beneath Wataru's skin.

Before the enforcers could process their shattered steel, Wataru knelt, slamming his bare hand flat against the wet concrete.

Infinite Atlas Mass Accord: Shadow Anchor

The liquid-black shadows of Kage-Ryu erupted from his boots, spreading across the alley floor like spilled ink. The moment the darkness touched the opponents' feet, the air pressure spiked so violently that the falling rain instantly flattened against the ground.

A heavy, suffocating wave of density dropped over the alleyway with a deafening THUUUUMMMM. The sudden, crushing gravity shattered the enforcers' stances, breaking the concrete beneath them and pinning them to the floor, making retreat impossible.

Through the heavy vibrations, Kuruma’s purple eyes tracked a sudden shift in the storm. Her vision instantly inverted into high-contrast black and white, losing all background detail as shimmering, neon-blue ripple lines gridded the entire alleyway.

Aqueous lace accord: Rain Mirror Perception

"Tenkai! Left side!" Kuruma warned sharply. "He's shaping iron shards above you!"

Kazan, coughing up blood, forced his hands upward. Dozens of jagged, razor-sharp iron spikes materialized above Tenkai’s head, forged directly out of the city's infrastructure. But as Tenkai prepared to move, Kazan violently twisted his wrists, redirecting the flying metal shards straight toward Kuruma instead.

Kuruma didn't even flinch as the lethal spikes tore toward her face. With a swift, fluid flick of her wrists, she countered.

Aqueous Lace Accord: Thread-Weave Liquid Scalpel

Fine, shimmering lines of high-pressure liquid divinity snapped violently across the air without a massive splash. The clean, silent lines wove through the dark rain like a lethal spiderweb, slicing clean through the incoming iron spikes. The metal instantly slid apart into perfect halves, melting into harmless, drifting steam before they could get within three feet of her face.

Tenkai used the distraction to close the gap, moving like a shadow cutting through the rain. He slipped right inside Kazan’s guard and reached out, gripping Kazan's heavily armored forearm with his bare hand.

13th hour Accord: Decay Phase

Tenkai bypassed the smaller decades of strain, violently forcing the armor's timeline to rush forward by a massive 10,000 years in a single second. The reinforced steel plates couldn't handle the localized timeline acceleration; they rusted, cracked, and crumbled into glowing white digital pixels, scattering away into useless dust.

"My armor...!" Kazan gasped, stumbling back in horror as his defense disintegrated into thin air. "It's rotting away! What did you do?!"

Kazan collapsed onto his knees, his body shaking uncontrollably as his eyes rolled back into a solid, ink-black void. Thick, corrupted dark veins sprouted across his face and neck. The corporate Vanguard hunter was losing his sanity, the unstable power pumped into his veins rejecting his very soul.

"Crap… This is just crap!" Kazan screamed, clawing frantically at his vest pocket. "I need the bounty! I need more!"

He ripped the cap off a metallic vial labeled STABLIZER7 with his teeth, forcing three neon-blue pills down his throat. The monstrous veins temporarily receded, but his aura warped, twisting into an unstable vortex.

With an inhuman, agonizing shriek, the drugs forced his remaining power into a desperate explosion of liquid iron spikes. He charged blindly—a mindless monster throwing everything into one final strike.

Wataru stepped forward, his knuckles humming with the stored purple static charge.

Infinite Atlas Mass Accord: Kinetic Discharge

He slammed a heavy counter-punch directly into Kazan's incoming assault, venting the entire stored impact force deep through the monster's physical structure, ignoring his defenses entirely.

At the exact same time, Kuruma stepped right past Wataru's shoulder, a dense, swirling aura erupting around her as her eyes flashed into a brilliant, glowing electric blue. She weaved her arms through the heavy rain like a conductor guiding a symphony.

"Sensei said to clean up trash quickly," Kuruma said coldly.

Dozens of shimmering, high-pressure water threads snapped across the entire alleyway like silver lasers. With a deafening, metallic SHRRRRRREEEED, her pressurized lines diced Kazan's corrupted iron core into perfect pieces while Wataru's shockwave shattered his internal systems from the inside out.

The momentum stopped instantly. Kazan’s body fractured, exploding into harmless, drifting ash that dissolved completely in the downpour.

The alleyway went entirely quiet, save for the steady hiss of the rain.

Tenkai dropped his high collar away from his nose, letting out a sharp, irritated breath. A thin line of burning, indigo light leaked from his lip like glowing, dark divinity—the painful penalty of Time Lag after forcing his timeline to bend.

His hands trembled from the internal strain, the tips of his fingers briefly beginning to pixelate and fade into thin air before stabilizing. He clamped his fists deep into his uniform pockets, tilting his chin up to hide the weakness behind a sharp, arrogant grin.

"Sloppy, Kuruma," Tenkai muttered, wiping the indigo fluid with a careless flick.

"Your water threads are slow. You almost blocked my counter."

"Pick up the pace next time."

Kuruma didn't bat an eye, crossing her arms as her glowing blue eye-mark faded back to purple.

"If you moved any slower, I'd collect your bounty myself."

"You are welcome, by the way."

"You wouldn't make it past my shadow," Tenkai shot back, smirking.

"Leave the real targets to me, kid."

Kuruma stuck her tongue out at him. Wataru rolled his eyes and walked over to the shattered brick wall, his black-nailed fingers reaching down to retrieve the empty, metallic vial. His blue eyes narrowed at the corporate seal.

"It's a STABLIZER7 stamp," Wataru said, his voice completely flat.

"High-level Vanguard trash. This is how they keep their sanity."

"Miss a single dose, you turn into an Ayakashi."

Kuruma ignored his breakdown. She quickly unzipped her jacket and pulled out her chubby frog plushie, rotating it carefully to inspect the seams before letting out a quiet sigh of relief.

"And citizens actually look up to these addicts if only they knew," Kuruma muttered dryly.

"If that monster ash ruined Mr. Croak, you'd be dead."

Tenkai crossed his arms with an insufferable smirk, ignoring the heavy friction radiating through his veins.

"You're checking a stuffed animal after a fight," Tenkai remarked, rolling his eyes.

"Your priorities are a disaster, Himuro.”

Wataru didn't look up from the vial.

Kuruma didn't answer. She narrowed her eyes, kicked a splash of muddy puddle water right onto Tenkai's clean boots, and turned away to dry Mr. Croak's plush ears.

Wataru kept his eyes locked on his metallic vial. "That doll took the blast that kept you breathing, Tenkai," Wataru said flatly.

"Drop it before your timeline slips and you pass out."

Tenkai forced a sharp smirk to mask the sudden wave of exhaustion hitting his muscles. Adrenaline was fading fast, and the toll of his magic pulled heavily at his bones. He leaned his shoulder firmly against the damp brick wall, clenching his fists in his pockets so they wouldn't see his fingers shaking.

Wataru noticed anyway. Without a word, he stepped across the wet asphalt and grabbed Tenkai firmly by his vest strap, anchoring his massive six-foot-seven frame before his balance could slip. His blue eyes were piercingly sharp, seeing right through the mask.

"Sit down, Amagiri," Wataru commanded, his voice dropping an octave.

"Drop the ego and let me handle it."

"I had the whole thing handled, Kageyama, I’m fine." Tenkai grumbled.

Tenkai slid down to sit cross-legged against the damp wall while Wataru kneeled directly in front of him. Wataru closed his eyes, taking a deep, grounding breath to clear his mind of the pouring rain.

Wataru didn't waste a single second. He closed his eyes, plunging deep into his own mind to drag up a flawless, perfect memory of Tenkai’s body before the violence had torn it apart.

Using his own memory as a blueprint, Wataru forced Tenkai’s cells to look at that memory of what his body looked like before it was inguired—and rebuild Tenkai's broken form back into shape.

Reflective Restoration

Wataru’s eyes snapped open. A dense, roaring stream of purple divinity flooded his palms as he pressed them against Tenkai’s chest.

A brilliant, blinding wave of purple light snapped into reality over the dying boy. The energy locked onto Tenkai's shattered skin and fractured bones with a loud, resonant VUUUUUMMMM. The light practically hissed as the bleeding stopped and the flesh violently forced itself to mend.

"Eyes open, Amagiri," Wataru muttered, his voice tight from the output.

"You wanted the spotlight. You have to stay awake for the recovery."

Tenkai let out a sharp, ragged chuckle. His magenta eyes narrowed as he forced a smug smirk right through the burning ache in his chest. He tilted his chin up.

"Your healing feels like an insult, Wata," Tenkai rasped.

"Hurry up. I don't have all night."

The purple light flashing from Wataru’s palms flared with a sudden, blinding heat. Tenkai's violent trembling snapped to a sudden halt. The fractured lines of light eating away at his knuckles vanished, dragging his flesh screaming back into the present.

Then, the magic severed.

Both boys violently gasped as the phantom cord linking their souls shattered. Their chests heaved as they slumped forward into each other, thick sweat mixing with the downpour choking their faces. Their lungs burned for air. It felt as though something had reached inside their ribs and violently hollowed them out, leaving their veins running ice-cold and empty of divinity

Kuruma watched them, her fingers clenching her hairpins until her knuckles turned white. "Are you guys okay?" Kuruma asked, panic creeping in.

"Your accord is running on an empty tank."

"We're fine," Wataru muttered, a low, gritty rasp.

"But our physical reserves are shot."

Suddenly, the entire alleyway flooded with a blinding, heavy golden light. The illumination erased the shadows stretching from the brick walls, turning the pitch-black shortcut as bright as a noon-day stage. Rain droplets passing through the searing beam hissed, vaporizing into thick sheets of white steam.

Through the scraping hiss of the vapor, a massive silhouette stepped forward. Heavy, unhurried footsteps echoed against wet concrete. STEP. STEP.

"Well, well," a powerful, arrogant voice laughed from the light.

"Look at the little rats huddled in the dark."

The violent shift in the atmosphere made the hairs on Kuruma’s neck stand up. Her eyes flashed into a sharp, glowing blue color as her awareness amplified to its limit. Using her Rain mirror precipitation. Shoving her frog plushie deep back into her jacket, her body tensed like a coiled spring.

"Tenkai, Wataru, get up!" Kuruma barked, her voice commanding.

"The rain stopped falling above us. Look up!"

They snapped their heads toward the night sky, but barely had time to brace themselves. A massive crater tore open in the center of the alleyway as a heavy figure crashed down like a meteor. The kinetic shockwave blasted outward, evaporating the muddy puddles into a wall of steam.

The mist parted to reveal Solaris—one of the top celebrity hunters of the Vanguard.

He was massive and muscular, sporting flawless blonde hair and piercing blue eyes tailor-made for a television screen. Looking like a walking corporate advertisement, he wore pristine white-and-gold armor plates that contrasted sharply with the dark, trash-lined alley.

He glanced down at the pile of monster ash that was left of Kazan, letting out an arrogant chuckle.

"Kazan always was a sloppy junkie," Solaris sneered, adjusting his gold gauntlets.

"Running out of doses mid-patrol is pathetic."

Solaris slowly lifted his head, locking his piercing blue gaze onto the recovering seventeen-year-olds. His eyes scanned Tenkai’s sharp magenta gaze before dropping to Wataru’s long purple ponytail and the heavy industrial chain slung across his shoulders.

“ If it isn't Tokyo's freak show," Solaris mocked.

A condescending smirk spread across his face.

"The disgraced Amagiri prince and the Kageyama hound," Solaris taunted.

"Sovereign heirs acting like common street criminals."

Solaris slid his gaze directly over to Kuruma, staring intensely at the permanent raindrop mark branded beneath her left eye. His unhinged, media-trained smile returned, blindingly bright against the dark alleyway.

"And look what you're guarding. The Rain Successor," Solaris laughed greedily.

"The Boss will pay me premium meds for this."

“Once we eliminate all eight of you pillars, the Divine World finally unseals."

"The gods will descend and purge this city of evil."

"No more monsters. No more destructive Divinity Storms."

"We are going to turn this garbage world into heaven."

Solaris leaned forward, his eyes twisting with fanatic, unhinged devotion.

"And you freaks are standing in the way of paradise."

Tenkai slowly pushed himself up from the concrete. Ignoring the deep, aching exhaustion screaming in his muscles, he casually tucked his hands into his vest pockets. He leaned his head back, his sharp Supernova Magenta eyes flashing beneath his messy black hair.
