CHAPTER 13: A NEW LETTER

Two pairs of steps echoed in the dark hallway. Alongside the cries of a baby. The cctv cameras turned automatically towards the trespassers only to turn away unbothered. Before they took another step, the neon lights of the hallway illuminated, glowing the path ahead of them.
Yet they didn't need to see. Both had night vision. One had it naturally while the other had it artificially. The illuminated path helped only to calm the crying baby. Which they were grateful of.
In the furthest ends of the hallway stood a door. Even with the countless noises coming within, it all stopped once Renuaq, the owner of the room heard the cries. He checked his cameras and went to greet the newcomers.
Meanwhile Adeu, who got back a while ago from Kalisradha's meeting, was resting in her room. Lying on her bed with a holographic screen floating above her head. The screen didn't show vivid images or emit any sound. It was a list of numbers and words. And on top of it was written a single word, "ELVLAND". Yet she too got up and reached the common area.
*SWIZZZZ*
"Welcome home, Vez.... oh You're here too Tequnda..." As the door opened, Adeu was already infront of it. After greeting Vezyne, she noticed Tequnda standing beside Vez. While no information was revealed after she decided to join Kalisradha's team to eradicate the Guls, Adeu had a gut feeling what she was there for.
"Hey, good work out there...oh and you too, Tequnda big sis" Standing behind Adeu, Renu greeted them with his normal laid back self. Yet when he addressed Tequnda, his posture straightened automatically. Afterall it was the first time he saw Tequnda after the funeral. Yet her expression didn't show despair as it did in the funeral. She had pushed that expression deep inside her eyes.
"Thanks Renu, Adeu.... oh and that's right... Tequnda and Perciux will live here from now on...." Just like that, Vezyne dropped a big news. Yet the reaction the rather swallow. Neither was surprised.
Adeu smiled softly and took her hands. "Then again, Welcome home Tequnda!!!" Meanwhile Renu smiled a little and took little Perci from Tequnda's hands and raised him a little. Looking directly at his little face, Renu said in a high pitched voice normally used with babies, "Did you hear that Perci, you're going to live here from now on... Let's do our best!!!"
As Adeu finished greeting Tequnda, she turned and took little Perci from Renu. Now Renu was facing Tequnda directly. "Welcome.... hope can you find yourself at home here" He said looking down with his normal serious voice.
"Thank you... and don't worry..." Tequnda placed her hand on Renu's shoulder. "What happened to Magalt wasn't your or anyone here's fault... And i have lived the dangers of such jobs first hand so i understand.... I'm sorry if i made you all uncomfortable during the funeral...i just...couldn't... play it cool..."
Tequnda's words made Renu look up. A small smile extended in Renu's face. "Welcome...." Renu declared again but with enthusiasm. He felt as if the hand she had on his shoulder, emitted a deadly poison and removed the guilt he carried.
"WELCOME!!!!" A high pitched sound of a little girl echoed throughout the whole base. The huge screen beside of them lit up. It had the word 'Welcome' and many balloons and stuff around it. "Big Sis Tequnda, could I carry little Perci for a bit?" The little girl asked through the speakers on the whole base forgetting to use the ones on the room specifically.
" What... who is that??!!" Tequnda questioned in surprise and looked around to see nobody besides the 5 of them in the room. What surprised her even more was the totally normal expressions the others had. As she was starting to think only she heard that voice, Vezyne spoke softly and pointed towards the screen besides them.
"Tequnda, this is Juweri..." Vezyne explanation was short and sweet. Which obviously didn't answer Tequnda's worries. Which were totally valid because, suddenly a ghost or a building asks you if they can hold your child.
Seeing that Vezyne's words did nothing, Renu stepped in and continued, " Don't worry, she is one of our members. And well...you could say she's the owner of the JUSM base. She's very sweet and kind, you'll get attached in no time!!"
Seeing Renu speak so highly of this Juweri person and catching a glimpse of Adeu's small smile of approval, Tequnda replied with shaking off her surprise, " Thank you Juweri... so how would you carry Perci exactly??!!"
"Ha ha... just look... Renu, would you mind..." After Juweri asked Renu for help, he took little perci from Adeu's hands and brought him near the huge control panel below the screen. Towards the end was a blank square space with a blue shine on it.Renu placed little Perci on it and made sure he fit inside, which he did and With plenty of extra space left.
Four glass like walls emerged making it seem as if little Perci's inside a transparent box. Then a green light shone from the bottom and it went from top to bottom once. Then the walls surrounding him disappeared. Renu took little Perci into his hands and told Tequnda to look at the screen.
As a scanned image being uploaded to a screen, little by little a digital copy of Perci appeared in the screen. As soon as Perci was on the screen, another figure appeared. A small girl. With black hair and blue highlights all over. She was wearing a blue pretty dress with polka dots. The one you would find a child wearing on a rural village. Design way down, comfort way up.
A the little girl came into the screen and carried Perci on her arms, Tequnda was already staring with wide eyes. She had seen that hair and eyes before. Not a long time ago either. Just a few hours ago. The face was different and young, but the eyes and hair was almost the same. They were identical to Zuuri's. The girl behind the hero's mask.
However she had to hide her shock because there were two the people in the room. She wasn't sure if Adeu and Renu knew Vezyne without she mask was Zuuri. Meanwhile Renu looked at Juweri with a sense of longing. He rarely got to see Zuuri's face nowadays. Ironically, Zuuri was the one who stayed the least in the base. Less than even Adeu who went back and forth between the base and her home in Airanril.
Adeu looked at the young girl in a totally different perspective. She looked as a mother looking at a child. However, ignoring all those gazes, Juweri continued to caress little perci. "Thank you Renu.... oh... how cute.... so this is Tequnda big sis's and Magalt big bro's child... he has his father's eyes... oh... and i see two bumps on his forehead... he'll have his mother's horns i guess...."
Seeing the surprise in Tequnda's face, Adeu smiled at her and said softly, "Don't worry, i was surprised too when i first joined and saw her. But i guarantee too that she's a good girl... i hope you can become friends with her too..."
Hearing the queen of elves, guardian of Khaos, say it, made Tequnda relax a little. But deep in her mind she still had questions. 'If this little girl, Juweri was here the whole time, how come she never came when I visited the base with Magalt and more importantly than that, Adeuilin's reaction doesn't seem to show she knows someone else with that looks.... good thing I kept my mouth shut about the similarities between Juweri and Zuuri....'
"With introductions finish, i suppose we can now decide the new name...." Vezyne stated from behind. Tequnda looked at Vezyne with a confused look while both Adeu and Renu softly smiled. As Tequnda asked what Vezyne was talking about, a wave of memories wrapped Adeu's mind.
"We're adding your initials to the name of the base. Currently it's VERJAMS, and now that you and Perci joined, we are adding T and P for it." A simple explanation without any hidden meanings or drama came from Vezyne to answer Tequnda's doubts.
After thinking for a little, Tequnda remembered Magalt saying something similar. And he didn't want to add Tequnda and Perciux's names since he wanted to keep them out of the battle.
"I see.... So the letters in the name represent the members....." Tequnda slowly whispered for herself. Looking directly at Vezyne, she spoke again with a serious tone. "You can add my name but I'm sorry... i can't let you add Perci's name. I'm sorry...Both me and Magalt chose to fight to keep Perci out of this war. So that he could grow up freely without the need to fight to live another day. I hope you can understand...."
Vezyne looked at her directly and simply nodded, "Yes, we respect your decision. Magalt wanted the same too. We won't add little Perci's name... but please remember and please tell Perciux as he grows up enough to understand.... that he'll always be a part of this squad and this is always going to be his home. No matter what happens tomorrow or further down the road, he'll always be able to come here and call this his home...."
Vezyne's face wasn't visible but she subconsciously knew that behind her mask, a serious face with a soft smile was there. And every word she said is hundred percent honest and the unfiltered truth straight from her heart.
A tear rolled down Tequnda's face. She turned around to look at Adeu and Renu. Their expressions were the same but visible. Not hidden underneath a metallic mask. They both had a warm smile pasted on their faces. As grandparents would when welcoming their grandchildren home. Meanwhile Juweri who was still playing with the digital Perci, looked at Tequnda and smiled brightly. The unfiltered and genuine kindness which emitted from her was the final straw.
With tears welling up inside Tequnda's eyes, she walked over to Renu and took little Perci onto her arms. Holding him tightly, she let up all those tears and pent up emotions she couldn't before. Tears rolled down like a broken tap and flowed from her face to little Perci's face.
"Hear that Perci.... this is going to be our home from now on... and these uncles and aunts are going to look after us... just like your father did... we are not alone anymore.... we were never alone!!! We had all of them with us... this whole time!!!!"
Little Perci didn't understand why his mother was crying. He didn't understand what she was saying either. Yet somehow he knew that his mother finally showing her true face. The face of a tired mother who lived because of him. Little Perci raised his arm and placed his hand to his mother's face.
The warm sensation of her little baby's hand made Tequnda stop crying for a moment and look at her son. An overwhelming amount of emotions suddenly attacked Tequnda. The genuine warm and soft smile she saw on her son's face was the reason. Tequnda held him tightly again and whispered with a stuttering voice filled with cries, "...we're... home...!!!"
Vezyne, Adeu, Renu and Juweri watched silently and waited patiently. After a few minutes the cries stopped. Tequnda glanced at others for a final time and spoke. "Thank you very much for accepting us. If it's not too much i would like to make a request...."
Vezyne looked at her and said nothing. She and all present members awaited to her her request. As if confirming that this is her home too once again and that she doesn't need consent from anyone.
Tequnda looked at little Perci and smile softly. Looking back at the others she said with a confident smile, "I want to take Perci's birthday party here. It was going to be cancelled since Magalt and Sae aren't with us anymore but looking at Perci's face made me remember.... that he is still entitled to a normal life...a normal birthday and a normal birthday party.... that is what Magalt would have wanted too....and I'll do anything and everything for his life to be normal...!!!! please help me!!!!....."
After finishing, she bowed and waited the others responses. Yet no one talked. Concerned, Tequnda lifted her head and looked at everyone only to be met with the same expression as before. The warm smile that said, "do you even need to ask....of course we'll help" without any words spoken.
As Tequnda understood that, she bowed again and thanked them. As she finished, Vezyne stepped forward and declared, "Well then, we'll find a name as we go... for now, let's get ready to celebrate Perci's first birthday party!!!"
