Chapter 5:

Auxiliary II: Elrod

Echo Nexus

Jason’s POV_

The thought had flashed through my mind a few times now. To grab the fat bastard seated in front of me and punch him unconscious. He wouldn’t fight back, and even if he did, he wouldn’t beat me. We both knew this.

Yet still, I couldn’t do it. Not yet.

“I did what you said.”

“Good. That’s the only reason you’re standing there right now.”

I remained silent.

‘He’s an idiot if he thinks he has any control over me.’

I was sick of his arrogance, sick of his pride, sick of the way his lips curved in a smile whenever he talked of his own brilliance. The way he only had time to listen to his own voice.

He knew what was happening to mother, yet he still chose himself. He chose his own wicked plans over his wife’s health.

“Don’t look at me that way, son. I’m only doing what’s best for this family.”

“You have no idea what’s good for this family.”

“Watch your mouth boy, if you want any shot at getting the medicine.”

That medicine, that goddamn medicine. The only reason I was doing what he wanted. I knew where he was hiding mother, and once I got the medicine, it would be his turn to hide.

“Now, pack your bags.”

He held out a green smart card.

I was genuinely surprised he had already gotten me a card. It showed on my face. His lips curled into a gleeful smile.

‘Argh,’ I thought. I shouldn’t have shown him my surprise. The smile stuck on his face for a few seconds, to celebrate his little victory over me.

“You’re going to Herald Island.”

‘We’ll see,’ I thought.

The moment I closed the door behind me as I left the room, my phone rang. I briefly thought about the lie I told at the reception before checking the caller.

“Mr Elrod, I confirmed what you asked. Your father has no idea where the medicine is, nor of its composition.”

‘I knew it.’

“However, I did ascertain that a compound called sucimer is one of the major ingredients in manufacturing the medicine, though it is extremely rare.”

“Where can we get it?”

“It’s only found on the Echo Nexus, and it’s a top secret experimental substance.”

I sighed, as I pinched the bridge of my nose.

“I guess I am going to Herald Island.”
