Chapter 60:
SUZUKIMU - No Moon Can Shine Without Its Sun
When I had gathered my thoughts and looked at Mirai, she had lost conscience again. I quickly explained to my mother what had happened when we were inside the tunnel and she looked very worried afterwards. I wasn't sure what would happen if the Sun gave away too much Mana but I'm sure it wasn't anything good. My mother and I were both kneeling besides Mirai on the floor. She was still out be she was slowly breathing like she was just asleep.
“Do you think she was hurt?” I asked. My mother sighed and looked at Mirai with a worried face.
“I'm not sure. Depleting your Mana can seriously hurt you in extreme cases, but normally you can recover from it. So I would think she will come to again not too long from now. I just hope nothing else happens until then,” she answered.
“Nothing else?” I asked. My mother looked around the room.
“We are in enemy territory right now. We didn't see anyone yet, but that might change at any moment.”
“Should we focus on bringing the others over first?” I suggested. My mother nodded.
“That seems like a good idea. We need to figure something out to make it easier first though.”
“Let's write in the book and tell them the situation,” I said. My mother nodded again and then wrote a paragraph in the book before closing it again.
“What do you think we can do?” She asked a couple moments later. I was trying to figure that out already, but it was a very involved problem.
“The best way to do it would be to jump in with so much velocity that you could make it far enough to the other side that someone could grab you and pull you in the rest of the way, just like you did for Mirai and I.”
“I'm thinking the same thing,” my mother responded whilst looking at the TV. Then she looked down at the book in her hand, we had an answer. She opened the book and looked into what the others had written in response to our report.
“Seems like they agree with our idea of trying to come up with a better way to do things,” she said after reading for a little while.
“Do they think the jumping idea can work?” I asked.
“No, not really since the room is too small to gain enough speed to make it happen,” was my mothers response. That was something I hadn't taken into consideration until now, but it was quite obvious after they pointed it out.
“Can we use the Mana somehow?” I continued asking. It didn't go too well for Mirai and I, but at least it did work in the end and we could save ourselves.
“Maybe, but at least Beatrice doesn't have anyone to do it with, so we had to leave her behind at the very least.” I didn't really know her, so I couldn't tell how important it would be to have her here, but since my mother explicitly mentioned her, I had to assume she was of some importance.
I looked around the room for anything that might help. Some sort of rope, even if it were just of the metaphorical variety. But there truly seemed to be nothing that could have helped us. But then I finally had an idea that could work.
“I think the only thing we can do is have one pair of Sun and Moon hold onto each other and have them go into the tunnel and do the same thing that Mirai and I did until they are close enough that we can reach them if I go into the tunnel myself again. And then once they are far enough the next people can join and finally Beatrice and when they are all in the tunnel we pull them out in one group.” My mother looked at me with a blank expression, but I knew that meant she was thinking about what I just said and after a couple seconds she nodded slowly and wrote into the book what I just told her. The others agreed and so I leaned myself into the tunnel again whilst my mother was holding onto me and after a little moment I could see Kiyomi and Hanami entering the tunnel. I only knew who they were because my mother told me about them, but the fact that they looked so much like Mirai and I when we were their age was hard to ignore. And I still looked a lot like Hanami from what I was told, so I imagined it wasn't easy for Mirai to spend time with him. Then I wondered where the hell my thoughts were going and I focused on the two of them and their progress. We had told them what to do and it seemed they were capable of doing the same Mirai and I did, if anything what they did looked more impressive by quite a margin. When they had traveled a little while Beatrice and Kento entered the tunnel as well and held onto Kiyomis hands as Hanami proceeded to propel them towards my position and it didn't take long before they reached me and I could grab onto his hand. I pulled the hand that my mother held a little bit and that was our signal to pull us in and she managed to develop enough strength to get us all out at once. Luckily the fact that we were basically floating weightless helped, even though the strange behaviour of the tunnel provided some resistance, with a good footing it wasn't too hard to overcome and so we all found ourselves on the floor of the fake version of Kiyomis room. I looked at Mirai and to my relief she seemed to have come to and looked at me with a faint smile that made me feel all sort of things. But I tried to put it all aside to focus on what we had to do. The only problem was that I wasn't really sure what that even was.
