Chapter 0:

Zero - The End of Everything

The Girl That Woke Up.

It was the 2nd of July when the accident occurred.

We were going on a family trip on the 4th of July.

It was in the middle of the night yet we were still driving. We were driving down interstate 20. Mother was sleeping as was my sister, I was trying to sleep but I couldn’t.

“Father? How much longer?” He looked up in the mirror and gave me a closed-eyed smile yet you could tell he was tired “almost there sweetie.”

At that moment, we ran over someone and our car ran off the road and into the woods, hitting a tree.

I heard sirens.

I was laid on a bed.

A woman spoke.

“We don’t have O negative in stock………..Her blood matches the man”

“...alive?”

“but she will………...higher chance of survival”

And then I fell to the endless abyss.

+++

“Doctor, we don’t have O negative blood in stock!” I told the Doctor, “The other man, I know him, he also has O negative!”

“So your saying take his blood for a transfusion? Will he stay alive?” He questioned with a wince.

“It's too late for him but she will have a higher chance of survival if we do this.”

The silence in the room provided the answer.

“I will go get the blood.”

Beep

I felt my fingers twitch.

However, I could not move anything else.

Beep

‘I must be in a hospital’

I tried opening my eyes but failed to do so.

Beep

I focused on the sounds in the room.

The beeping and my breathing was the only thing I heard.

Beep

I tried to open my eyes once more.

A white ceiling greeted me.

Beep

I slightly turned my head to the left.

It was a calendar that has been marked.

Beep

I couldn't make it out.

I looked over to the right and saw cards, which I could only assume said “get well”

Beep

I looked back up at the ceiling and closed my eyes.

I tried feeling the rest of my body.

Beep

I opened my eyes once more.

With all my might, I tried sitting up.

Beep

I was able to do so after a few tries.

I looked around.

Beep

It was getting annoying, the beeping.

I tried standing up, only for my legs to wobble. I grabbed the IV drip rack as a stabilizer, wincing as the needle moved. I looked at the bag only to notice it was empty. I proceeded to rip the needle out.

Beep

‘Why did the nurse not change it out? And…...the monitor says my heart rate is 70? That's too low.’

Beep

I walked towards the monitor and flipped the switch putting the room into silence. I then began removing another wiring on me. I was able to read the cards and sure enough, they were from friends and family saying “Get Well Soon” however, for some reason…….some also said, “Sorry for your loss.”

Who died? It was that bad of an incident? I wanted to cry however my eyes felt so dry, in fact, my entire body felt dry…and cold. I did not shiver however, I wasn’t even bothered by the coldness.

I put the card back and turned around, walking towards the calendar.

The calendar had markings meaning that day had passed, however, the last day that had been marked was August 9th.

‘Not as long as I expected it to be but still.’

I looked around the room for clothes, the hospital gown wasn’t good coverage, especially for my bum.

While looking around I spotted a clipboard. Walking to it I began reading, it was my information.
