Chapter 2:
A Failure’s Redemption
The morning after David’s Xbox was confiscated, the family was planning to go to the movie theater to watch a new Christmas movie that just came out. They get ready to leave.
“I don’t really wanna go out with the family today. I was thinking of going to my friend’s house”, David stated.
“David, we took your Xbox away to show you the value of spending time with the family. It’s best to spend time with them now, you’ll never know if you will have us tomorrow”, the mother replied.
After one hour of driving in the car, they finally arrived at the movies. There was a long line for buying tickets at the ticket booth. They were forced to wait until they got up front.
Thirty minutes had passed, and they were halfway towards the front. You could hear the various complaints from everyone standing on the line. It was reasonable though; the sun was blazing, they were getting tired, they were thirsty, they may have missed the opening to their movie, etc. Suddenly, gunshots were fired from the road.
“Get down!”, someone screamed. There was a group of two persons who were firing. David’s father wrapped his arms around his family. Unfortunately, in doing so, he was shot in the back.
“DAD”, David cried.
“HEROLD”, his mother cried out as well. David and his mother start break down in devastation. Being too focused on the father’s condition, David’s mother was shot in the upper body area.
“No mom, not you too”, David said, with tears running down his face and snot running down his nose. “I can’t lose you guys. I love y’all.” David was on his knees, hopeless. Even as guns were flying around the movie theater, he only focused on his parents at near death. “I… I am so sorry. I...” Both parents’ heart stopped beating. They were gone…
The sound of sirens could be heard; thus, the shooters went in their car and fled the scene. Two police cars chased them, while three of them went to the theater to check up on the victims.
