Chapter 6:

Exhilarating Morning

Blade: Belonging

Finally, we get some time to rest. I arrived back at our room and instantly flopped into my bed. I was fully drained. Takeo still has yet to come back. He dragged me to the door and then said he had urgent business to attend to. I wonder what that is.

I have started to get more curious about Takeo. I wonder why that is. He seems powerful but constantly holds himself back. He has tactical knowledge and good strategic skills yet rarely take control. Never showing his full potential. I hate people like that.

While I was thinking about all this, I heard the door slowly open. I laid still like a dead rock to make sure whoever that was wouldn't get the advantage over me by knowing I'm awake. But it didn't seem to matter since as quick as they got in they left. I looked around to see what they did, however, nothing changed.

I did notice a piece of paper on Takeo's bed. I don't like being nosey but I couldn't resist the urge to see what it was. As I began reading it, I could hear footsteps coming towards the door. I didn't want to take any risks so I quickly jumped back into my bed and pretended to be asleep.

The door was slammed shut so hard the ground shook for a moment. I slowly turned around while pretending to sleep to be able to see what he was doing.

He was holding the piece of paper which I tried to look at earlier. He looked at it for a second and ripped it apart. He threw the pieces into a barrel and began undressing. He threw his clothes on his bed and walked off to the bath.

I quickly and silently got out and took out all the pieces of paper which Takeo threw away. I tried my best to put it back together to read the message. But even when It's mostly put back together it makes no sense. It seems to be the language of the nobles which peasants like me don't understand. Seems like Takeo has gotten himself involved with the nobles too much or maybe he is a noble. I will have to try to look deeper into this.

Since that was useless I scrambled it back up and left it in the barrel. Since there was nothing else left to do, I went back into my bed and finally took the long-awaited rest I needed.

The morning breeze came through the window. The cold morning winds have always been my go-to way of waking up.

I got up, went to the bathroom, put on my running clothes and began heading out. As I was about to leave for my morning run, I noticed that Takeo's bed was empty. I wonder where he went off to so early in the morning. It should be around 4 in the morning, which for me is early and I wouldn't expect him to be out earlier than me unless he wanted to warm up before the final stage we have later today, although it's too early still. Since I had no idea where he could have possibly gone to, I had no reason to stick around for any longer.

On the third day in the capital city, although nothing beats home, I have been getting a bit more used to the city, though not having birds wake me up in the morning is quite sad. Since we only have one part of the military enrollment left I decided to do a longer run and explore more of the city.

A lot of the city streets were clean and well maintained. There were even a lot of young boys cleaning the streets. Their raggy clothes didn't seem comfortable, but they were probably wearing them to not get their normal clothes dirty. As I ran around I encountered more and more different people and new areas of the city. I met a lot of girls around my age who seemed to all wear loose clothing and hang out by bars, I wonder if they are waiting for their parents to come out from drinking.

I started to get a bit tired of running so I tried to find a place to rest, but it seems like I have gotten myself lost in the outer areas of the city. I have noticed that the smell here is pretty weird. It was rather discomforting but the people here didn't seem bothered about it. Maybe it's just a city thing.

I wandered around the outer parts of the city a bit more while trying to find my way back to the dorm. I tried asking around but everyone seemed too scared to talk to me, I wonder if it's because they can tell I'm from a village and not a from the city like them.

After enough walking around I managed to find a sign pointing towards the arena which was enough information to get me back to the dorms. The walk back felt shorter than the run here, but it was an interesting experience. City life truly is exhilarating.
