Chapter 6:

Oxidation

In this Wonderful World

As I stand in my void, I see Davis kneeling on the floor in front of me. "How many times have I seen him in this state?", I ask rhetorically. "Fifth time... every time I show him the outside he always breaks. The human mind is very fragile after all...it's not like I would understand after all this time"

I walk up to him and kneeled down to his level. I waved my hand in front of him to see if he reacts, but to no surprise, he never did. "I feel awful in not being worried, it's as if this is all normal to me. Of course, if one is faced with many tragedies, his mind sets it as the norm. I feel sick. I do this to him because he wished it from me. I'll reset again and if he breaks down again, I'll...continue the tragedy", I take up my right arm and- Davis suddenly puts his hand on my arm and stops me from resetting the world. He continues staring down at the floor, his hair covering his eyes.

"What I saw...did that actually happen?", his words sound like knives piercing into my soul, words with filled malice.

"Yes, you saw it with your own two eyes, didn't you?", I bit back for some reason, maybe it's not a good idea to antagonize him even in this state he is in.

He looks down, "I...", he then drops to the floor

"Davis!", I quickly caught him by the side. I had two decisions, Do I reset the world...or do I hear what he has to say? I flung my left arm to the right and I appear in his bedroom, I placed him in his bed and waited till he recovered. I looked around the room and saw his clothes all over the floor, the pile of books lying on his study shelf and his untidy wardrobe. "Not surprising, he has been going through so much that he hasn't had time to re-arrange his own room", I started picking up his clothes, tidying the bookshelf and re-organising his wardrobe. I turned to check on Davis but only see him still resting. I turn back to the room to see the room

"Untidy again?", the room was back to its original state. "Oh...I forgot...this world is based on Davis' memory. If he remembers as something of something, the world won't change that something. But that makes me wonder...", I walked along the once-was-tidy-but-now-tidy-floor and open the bottom shelf of his study table. I was expecting something to be there but it was not. "How far did I erase his memory?", the drawer above the last drawer contained a diary that I know that Davis writes on. I opened it and flip the pages and stumbled on a date,

January 10th, 20XX

I'm finally here in Huckleberry! I can't wait to meet so many new people here!

Those were the only words written in his diary. I placed the book back in its original position and pulled out the study desk's chair. I looked over to Davis to see if he is awake yet, but still not.

"The start of his high school year...so he hasn't gone through it yet..."

...

...

After opening my eyes, I see that I am in my room again and look over to see her. A sudden rage intensified in me. I felt like she was responsible for the death of many students.

"D-Davis?", her voice sounded frightened. "You don't have to make that face at me", I must've looked pissed. "Hoo", I let out a sigh and slumped over. "What happened in there?"

"An explosion...the reason why you are going through this is that you have to save her."

"Emilia? why her only? WHAT ABOUT EVERYONE-AGH", coughed out something. It was reddish in colour, blood. "Am I dying?", I asked her.

"No, when memories from this world and the real world. A paradox takes place and the universe tries to get rid of you by killing you. But there are some exceptions and rules. I wish I could tell you but I can't."

"Because I wished for it?"

"Exactly, look Davis I'm sorry. If you want, you can stay here in this world, if you are not up for the task I-"

"I'll take the third option"

"Third?"

"I'm not going back out there, just not yet. I want to sleep..."

"But, remember what I said? you will die here. You still have memories from the real world I should erase them and-"

"No need, I'll decide at the last minute. Now, get the hell out of my room"

She heard the tone of my voice. She got up from her seat and fled the room. And closed the door behind her. I lay down again on my bed and rubbed my eyes.

"I need breathing space"

I fell into the pit of slumber once again, hoping to myself that I won't be awake again...

...

"Can anyone here tell me what Oxidation means?", the teacher looked through the whole class. No one had an answer, except for one transfer student

"Yes, the new kid"

The student got up and recited the meaning of the word, "Oxidation means, it is the gaining of oxygen in a reaction"

The teacher looked impressed, "And could you tell me the other meaning of Oxidation?"

"It is the loss of electrons"

To be continued...
