Chapter 1:
A Mile A World
Inside the Gates of Heaven, the territory was divided in two: one side ruled by the Angles and another by the species named Diable. The most powerful among them, Raphael and Hades, were fighting to the death as usual near the first gate of heaven. Blades sparkled; darkness collided with light. Loud screams and agony followed as they laid waste to everyone that crossed their paths. Now, only the two remained. As they surged forward to strike each other, they fought until both fell to their knees, exhausted.
As they were gazing at each other and raising their weapons again, the first gate of heavens opened. These gates had never opened in eons. Both were mesmerized by the unusual occurrence. Looking through, they saw their own ancestors—the Akira and Chaos—at the gates of heavens. Raphael and Hades dropped their weapons as they moved, exhausted, limping, and bleeding.
As they reached the gate, they saw an infant at their doorstep. They were confused by it. Hades and Raphael looked at each other and suddenly pulled their daggers to end each other, but they were stopped by the sudden cry of the being. Such an overwhelming aura shredded the air that they were brought again to their knees. They both thought: What is this? Who is stronger than us that can defeat us with their mere existence?
Raphael crawled towards the baby and tried to calm it, soothing it back to sleep. She looked at the charming child and fell in love with it. She said to Hades, "Call it a stalemate. I have a visitor that I have to tend to."
But Hades stopped her. "Your visitor? He is mine to claim. He was in our portion of land."
"No, he was half in ours," Raphael argued. "That makes him half mine."
Neither trusted the other. Raphael suggested, "How about we share it? Let me have it in the first cycle of Uron (sun of heavens) and you can have it in the second cycle of Pluron (moon of the heavens)."
"But you can't be trusted," said Hades.
Raphael then proposed a Blood Bond to ensure their agreement. Hades recoiled, calling it blasphemy. To him, the idea of mixing his blood in a bond with an inferior species who had killed his brothers was unthinkable. "Even your hands are bloodied," he spat.
"How can we be sure then?" Raphael asked.
"Let's bond by the Threads of Fate," Hades replied. "By this, we do not have to bond our bloods."
They summoned Fate, the weaver of destiny. "We summon you to bond us for eternity. I accept this being to be shared with Hades and Raphael."
"I, Raphael, accept this being as mother, to be my son."
Hades was angered by her quick oath. In a Fate Bond, you can create multiple thresholds that must be fulfilled; you cannot die breaking it, but you cannot truly live without fulfilling it.
"I, Hades, claim him as son," he declared.
"I have already claimed him as son," Raphael countered.
"Yes, you claimed him as mother; I claim him as father."
The threads shined. Together they spoke: "I claimed him to be mine to the death of us, to the end of our lives, he is to be mine. So it be destined."
A bright light loomed over Heaven Gate 1, reaching beyond the 3rd Gate. High above, a Celestial King smiled. "Looks like gate has been opened and fate has been summoned... . He laughed. Interesting, I will be waiting for you. Come to me."
The light faded and the bonding was complete. Raphael left to feed and clean the child. Hades, knowing she was now bound by Fate itself, let her go for the first cycle.
