Chapter 0:

Prologue: In The Kingdom of Aicama

The Mighty Dragon Has Reincarnated As A Dog!

Five hundred years.
That is, the time the all-mighty dragon Versoria has spit down fire upon the lands of Aicama. A kingdom that has lived in fear of total annihilation, and has seen thousands of warriors march to their glory of defeating the mighty dragon, only to come back in tears and with their hair burned down to a crisp every single time. As time went on, their morale would reach an all-time low point, and less warriors would attempt at taking the monster down. That was, until today.

"Wyvern Slayers". With such a ridiculous and lame name for a party, the group of four teenagers faced the basilisk, who sat atop of hundreds of thousands of golden coins and other treasures, which had remained untouched by the human hand for centuries in the Mountain of Versoria.

"Not sure why, but I feel like someone just made fun of us". Jack, the warrior held his sword with both hands as he prepared for the first strike and made sure his armor was in place.
"Probably just your imagination. Or maybe we are in a flashback?", said the dancer Lyla as she moved her hips left and right in a hypnotic manner. And no, this isn't a flashback.
"The more you spout stupid crap, the less we are killing this monster!", yelled Lapis, the self-proclaimed "Berserker Class", who recklessly wore little to no armor and carried a massive hammer, as tall as him.
"Uhm...I think I left my magic book at home...". Finally, Selina the sorceress. Although a beginner at magic, she showed great promise and so was recruited. Also, she was the only one available. "Eh?! Really?!". Yes, really.

Versoria calmly gazed at the party of heroes. A sight he had seen hundreds of times before. A scene that would repeat over and over again. Mighty, brave, proud warriors would stand in front of him with confident smiles, only to cry their hearts out as soon  as they were surrounded by flames. "Good grief. Wasn't the last party just last week? Aicama must be getting quite desperate, I must say".
The dragon spread his wings and shrieked at the sky, announcing his presence to the party, as if he was warning them to leave before the fight.

"You look ready to fight, oh Versoria your Majesty!" exclaimed Jack with a smug, full of confidence and hoping no one would notice his shaking legs.
"Pitiful human. Turn your back and leave this place while you still can. I shall have no mercy upon your soul dare you step further". The voice of Versoria resounded inside their heads. A telepathic skill being used just to show-off his power.
Jack grinned and pointed at the dragon with his sword. "Versoria! Today is the day we bury your bones! We have brought you the ultimate, most painful, most powerful and amazing weapon in the kingdom of Aicama! Behold!"
Versoria, at first, thought of it as a bluff, but stood still to gaze at their "weapon". Might as well kill the repetitive nature of these duels. And yet, what stood in front of him was...

"Prepare to be charmed, Mister Dragon!".
Lyla, the dancer.
"This is...the dance that has been inherited for hundreds of generations in my family. No one had dared do it before. They said all who danced or looked at these steps would meet their death immediately..."

"Ah, she started a monologue. What a pain..." Versoria focused his attention on Lyla, who would shake her hips left and right. Left. Right. Left. Right. The movement of her hips was hypnotic. It almost made the monologue seem pointless. "How do you know this story if everyone died?"
Lyla paid no attention to Versoria and continued.

"Versoria! Gaze upon my body! Fix sight  on my figure! Be charmed by my feminine traits!"
"No, I'm not really interested in humans...and you are lacking on those traits".
Indeed, Lyla was quite flat.
"You said it...I will make sure you and the narrator pay for this! Behold! The Ancient Dance of the Sacred Eternal Deathly Death!"
And so, Lyla danced.
She danced the dance of her people.
She danced the dance that would save the world.
The one with the lame name that sounded made up in the spot.
The end would come.
Or so Versoria thought, but Lyla was pretty bad at it.
"Ehhh let's see...one, two! One two! And a turn and...huh? Was it two turns? Ahhhh, without the music this is quite hard! What was the next move? The horse dance? No no, it was the thing with the punches and...Versoria! You are looking at me, aren't you?! Be afraid!" Lyla's hips moved left and right with the timing of a clock, and yet the rest of her body failed to demonstrate any knowledge of rhythm and music.
Versoria was dumbfounded. It was as if he was looking at a tall building fall on top of a person. A disaster occurring in front of him, leaving him immobilized. Confused. Hypnotized. Immobilized. Unable to move. Immobilized...
"...wait, what is happening?" And so he realized. He was, indeed, completely immobilized.

"Gyaahahahaha! You fell for it, you stupid dragon!". Lapis laughed out loud as him and Jack had finished tying Versoria's legs to the ground with incredibly large stakes and ropes. Versoria had fallen for the "Make Lyla Do A Stupid Dance And Distract The Dragon Who Probably Feels Bad For Her!" plan.
But it was not only ropes and stakes. Things a dragon like Versoria could easily turn to dust. No, there was also magic involved. A halo surrounded his body, locking him into place and sealing his abilities.

"Nice job, Selina! All those months of bondage training paid off!" yelled Jack as he looked at Selina, who atop of a large boulder finished her spell as she waved his staff around.
"D-d-don't call it that! It's Sealing Magic! And it's pretty hard!". Selina, red faced, wiped the tears off her face and prepared her mind once again. It was time.
"Do it now, Selina! Turn this crappy, lame, stupid dragon to dust!". Lapis screamed, ready to witness the end of hundreds of years of torture.
"Uhm, guys...actually I..." Selina started saying, but Versoria moved slightly.

"Damn you, humans! You think I can not break free from such a basic spell?! Witness me!". Versoria shook his body. He moved, ever so slightly, but with enough time he would break free.

"Hurry, Selina! He's escaping!"
"Selina you damn mage! Do the spell already!"
"B-b-but I'm trying to tell you..."

Versoria screamed.
"DO IT NOW!" yelled both of boys.
Selina started sobbing, and pointed her staff at Versoria once more. "Just...don't blame me for what happens!"

She recited ancient words of magic, and the halo around Versoria became bigger and shinier.
"Versoria! Leave this place! Now!". Selina screamed and the halo engulfed the entire mountain with its shine.
"Damn you..DAMN YOU, HUUUUMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANS! No spell can defeat me!" Versoria screamed once more, and the halo of light burst into an explosion that could be seen by everyone in the kingdom of Aicama. And then, the dragon was gone.
"If we can't defeat you...we can at least get rid of you! Leave!".

"...guys?". Selina opened her eyes. She was alone.
The party was also gone.

Selina fell to her knees and started sobbing.
"That's why I tried to tell you...I left my magic book at home and couldn't remember the spell!"

********************************************************************************

A small city in the modern world. It was daytime, yet it was dark because of the rain. Versoria awoke inside a small box on the street, as an umbrella covered his body.
"Where...am I?"
Versoria tried to look around, but his eyes could barely open. His body felt...light. And weak. And his scales felt nonexistent.
"My...scales..."
He focused his senses on his body and felt the touch of fur. No scales to be found. And his massive claws had been replaced by tiny, soft paws. His long tail now short, and his mouth, full of massive teeth and his biggest weapon of destruction, had now been reduced to a round face with small teeth that could do no harm.
And then he sensed "them". The smells. Tons and tons of smells coming from everywhere. The smell of rain. The smell of food. The smell of animals. The smell of humans. So many smells at once.
And the smell of a single human approached him.
"You poor thing. You must be freezing here."
Versoria heard the voice of a young man. He tried to reply back, but his skills did not work, and the strength was slowly leaving his body.
"What to do...I'm not sure if Mom will let me keep pets around..."
Versoria tried once more looking at the human. "Pet...?"
He put his new paws on the edge of the box and looked up.
"Ah...don't give me those puppy eyes..."
"Puppy?". Versoria did not know of that word. But now, it didn't matter. Whatever he was doing with his eyes, it was working. "This gaze spell...I shall use it now...save me, human slave..."
As Versoria slowly lost consciousness, he could human hands grabbing his body.
"Hey! Don't die! I'll take you home, I swear! Just hang on!" the boy yelled as he grabbed the puppy and held it close to his chest.
Versoria could hear his heartbeat. A strange, yet calming sound. Somehow, he now felt safe. But how was a human capable of holding his massive body? Versoria knew the truth, but only just now had he wanted to admit it.

He had been reincarnated as a dog.
