Chapter 46:

XLV

Kunoichi

“Sooo,” Koemi began after they’d helped Sachi into the waiting helicopter. “You’re all lesbians, right?”

“I guess I’m bi with an affinity for women,” Mari shrugged.

“Same,” Yukiko said with a smile, clinging on to Mari’s arm as the rotors began to spin faster, beating the air and causing the vehicle to rise into the air.

“Just be quiet, Koemi,” Sachi scowled.

“Answer the question, Sacchan! You never dated anyone through school or even after, right?” Koemi replied. “I always assumed you just didn’t like people but you were secretly lesbian, right?”

“What the hell are you even talking about this for?” Sachi finally asked. “I mean, what’s the point?”

“It’s just…” Koemi trailed off.

“What is it?” Sachi asked, seeing that there was something actually bothering her sister.

“I’ve never been in love. I mean, I’ve never even had sex,” Koemi said nervously. “I just never felt anything for anyone like that.”

“I thought you were a total slut, to be honest,” Mari supplied. Koemi grinned and shrugged.

“That’s natural, I guess,” Koemi admitted. “It’s partly an act and partly because it’s kind of fun. I want to love, though. I want to have what you have, Sachi. Someone you love so much you’ll get into a crash and then when you wake up only to dive right back in. And you all seem to love each other very much so I was wondering if that was because you’re all lesbians.”

“No,” Yukiko answered, shaking her head. “Love is love. The love between a man and a woman, a woman and a woman, a man and a man, it’s all love. Find your own love, whoever it is, and just love them.”

“Don’t rush into things, Koechan,” Mari said. “You’ll find love or love will find you eventually and when you do find it you’ll know.”

“But how will I know its love and not just some animalistic need to get slippery?” Koemi asked, causing Sachi to immediately wish she could stab her mind’s eye out.

“Get slippery? Oh my goddd! I love that one! I’m using it!” Yukiko squealed in delight.

“Actually, Koechan, I know exactly what you mean,” Mari said. “When I first got together with Yukichan I thought it was just lust. I thought she only wanted me because she wanted someone. I was scared about that until I looked in her eyes and saw what she really wanted was to get close to me. Not someone, but me. And I realized I wanted to get close to her, too. Not someone. Her. If you feel it in your heart, like it’s going to burst, and you sense it in the other person’s eyes it’s not just getting slippery, though that’s fun, too.”

“Awww!” Yukiko cooed, cuddling up to Mari and grabbing her arm tightly. “Do you want to get slippery with me, baby?”

“You have a private room in this helicopter?” Mari called to Mirai who had been on the phone since getting into the helicopter.

“I’m so glad I joined Kunoichi!” Koemi beamed as the lights of the city slipped behind them.

“You were forced on us, you know,” Sachi muttered, patting Koemi’s leg comfortingly anyway.

“Aw! Come on! You know you love me! I bring the kawaii!” Koemi enthused. All three of the others rolled their eyes dramatically.

“Oh my God! You’re insufferable, you brat!” Sachi groaned.

“Wait!” Mirai finally said, hanging the phone up and staring at them wide-eyed. “Who’s a lesbian, now?” The others stared back at her blankly.
