Chapter 1:
Wayward Godfist
The Godfist is an all powerful martial art, as such it’s the biggest kept secret in the world. It consists of Karate, Kung Fu, Taekwando, Silat, Muay Thai, and Bokh. One martial art for each of the metaphorical knuckles on the Godfist plus the back of the hand. Each segment of the fingers represents various other martial arts: Sumo, Iaido, Brazilian Jiu-Jutsu, Boxing and so on until each muscle, fiber, and bone in the human hand contains one piece from every martial art and combines them into one strike. Godfist. The secret to mastering Godfist is passed down from parent to child and so on. The current user of Godfist, Momomaru, had it passed down to him from his mother Momoko.
Momomaru lives with his mother in their family dojo. A pagoda which towers into the sky and has 25 levels in total with their living space being at the very top. Each level below them contained several rooms each with vigorous and intense training courses for each martial art contained in the Godfist. Their backyard held a sparring deck which used to be a light brown color but was now stained a warm and dark brownish-red. Their home as well as the Godfist Martial Art are the number one biggest kept secret in the world. Until today…
Momoko rolled her neck as she walked into her shared bedroom with Momomaru. She stood an unusual height of 187 centimeters and weighed close to 300 pounds. Her large stature was made of curves which took shape from her powerful muscles. She had a bust which, by Japanese standards, was considered large, was perfectly in proportion with the rest of her body. Her hair was tied into a knot on the back of her head. She wore black baggy pants and a blue martial arts belt tied around her waist. Her top was a light gray haori which she kept tucked into her belt and open in the front. As she scratched the back of her head she turned and sat on her bed to face Momomaru. His bed sat across from hers and he laid upon it while reading a book. “Read anything interesting?” She asked him,
“Not really,” he replied as he scratched his head while sitting up. Like his mother his flame shaped hair was a rather deep eggplant color. His clothes were exactly like hers only he never wore any shoes. “I just find a lot of martial arts and battle manga to be fascinating.” He turned and faced her as he flipped the book around and showed it to her, “A lot of the stances and strikes are right, however the paneling makes it seem like the attacks are instantaneous.”
“It’s just an art choice,” she said with a chuckle, “Either way, if you don’t like it you can always stop buying them.”
“No, no, I like it.” He said as he closed the book and set it aside, “Even if I wanted to buy more, I can’t, the series was cancelled.”
“That’s a shame,”
“Yeah, but until then I’ve got two others to keep me occupied.”
“That’s good,” she said with a smile as she crossed her legs. As she leaned on her fist all she could really do was looking lovingly at her son.
“Is something wrong?” He asked,
“No, not really.” She replied, “Have I ever told you about the life I’ve always wanted for you?”
“What’s wrong with this life?”
“Nothing,” she said, “I just like to daydream from time to time. I like to think that someday you’ll go off on your own and find a nice girl, maybe go to school, then get married, have a few kids, and then visit me when I’m old.”
“What’s wrong with our life now?”
“Well, you’re an adult, almost 22, you can’t live with me forever.”
“But I really like it here-“
“I know, I know,” she said as she sat up. “You’re my son, and I love you, however…” She then sighed before shaking her head and saying, “This is not the life I wanted for you. When I met your father, I had honestly never met another man like him. He was so brave, and kind, and beautiful, and honestly I wanted to be with him forever. I was going to leave this life,” she then gestured to their home, “All of this, the Godfist Martial Art, I planned for it to die with me.”
“Then why didn’t you?”
“Well, I just had you, and your father and I brought you home. I was very tired so I went down for a nap while your father offered to take care of you.” She then cleared her throat as old memories began to come back, “Anyways, I woke up to you crying, and when I found you the apartment was a mess. There was blood everywhere and I eventually found your fathers body. That’s when I moved back here with my mother. Not because I wanted to, but because I needed to protect you.”
“Mom…” He said as he got up and walked over to her bed,
“I just, I feel like that if maybe I wasn’t so tired, or if maybe we had you here, then maybe-“
“Mom,” Momomaru interrupted as he placed a hand on her face. He wiped tears from her eyes with his thumb as he said, “I appreciate you. You had no way of knowing, it’s not your fault. I really like it here, I don’t want to leave this place. This is my home, and your home too. I never want to leave your side.”
“Can you at least try?” She asked, “You know as much as I do that you don’t need me to protect you. I mean come on,” she said as she forced a smile, “I want grandkids.”
“Mmm, maybe.”
“Uh, no, not maybe, if you’re still living with me you’ll live with my rules.”
“Maybe that one can change?”
“What’s so wrong with it?” She asked with a chuckle, “It’s not like I’m asking you to kill someone.”
“You’re asking me to create someone, I don’t really know how to do that!!!”
“I’ve given you the talk before.”
“Y-Yeah!!! But I still don’t know how it exactly works!!!”
“You know, they have manga on that subject, maybe I should buy one of those for you.”
“Wh-What?! N-No!!! That’s wrong!!!”
She then laughed only to be cut a bit short. The two turned their heads to the East as they heard something off in the distance. Momoko rose and advanced to the window with her son. They noticed some bright lights moving through the forest surrounding the tower. “People?” Momomaru asked,
“That’s impossible,” she said, “The only people who know of this location are members of our family. Usually a direct secret between Father to Son, Mother to Daughter, and so on.”
“They could just be….exploring the woods?”
“No,” she said, “Something’s….something’s off.”
His eyes then widened when he saw some lights begin to hover, “That’s a helicopter.” He said in shock, “We’re under attack.” The two then turned to the bedroom door as a large pounding noise echoed through the tower.
“How did they find us?”
“Who cares?” Momomaru asked as he cracked his knuckles, “But they won’t take this place away from us.”
“How do you want to handle this?” She asked as she rolled her neck and folded her arms.
“You can take the left and I’ll take the right,” he said just as he heard the door burst open. “Let’s go.” The two then moved their arms in circular motions before flexing to harden their bones and muscles. They each exhaled heavily before they ran in opposite directions. In the first room Momomaru came to he opened a cabinet to grab onto a few things. He grabbed two kyoketsu-shoge before he grabbed a special brace. He put the braces on his forearms before feeding the ropes on the weapons through them. He then grabbed a silver ring which he slid onto his middle finger before walking across the room.
He stopped in the center of the room as he felt something a bit off. He inhaled sharply as the floor was shot out from beneath him. As he landed he found himself surrounded by many heavily armed people in black. He quickly moved and swept the legs from beneath the armed person in front of him. The soldiers raised their weapons to shoot at him. Momomaru accelerated forward and lowered the gun of the soldier closest to him, causing the soldier to discharge his weapon and accidentally knock himself out with the back end of his gun.
He then dashed to the side and pushed away the next soldier's gun before he rolled, and delivered his elbow to the soldier's temple. The soldier from behind him grabbed his collar and pulled Momomaru to the floor. Momomaru groaned before he saw the barrel of the man’s gun point towards his face. He quickly pushed off the ground and wrapped his body around the soldiers left arm. He spun quickly causing the soldier to crash headfirst into the floorboards.
Across the temple and just a floor beneath Momomaru, Momoko roundhouse kicked a soldier out the window and out into the rain. She spun and swung her right foot through the air, striking the side of a soldier’s head, breaking his jaw on impact, and nearly blowing his head off his shoulders. She stepped back as a soldier went to shoot her in the chest. She grabbed the top of the soldiers pistol before she swung her arm backward with tremendous force. She slid the slide right off and she struck the soldier in the face with it. As he fell to his knees she grabbed him and judo threw him out of the room and down the hollow middle section of the tower.
Momoko turned to an oncoming opponent. With a grin she grabbed his incoming fist before pulling down on his arm. With a swift movement she quickly shot her knee into her opponent’s face before sweeping his feet with her same leg. As the enemy fell to the ground she knelt to grab him. Her opponent delivered a punch across her face. As she returned a follow up punch to the man’s head she then grabbed him by the neck and tossed him across the room. She grinned before she burst into a sprint before she then shoulder bashed her enemy through the wall and into the next room.
On the opposing side of the tower and down a couple of levels, Momomaru grunted as he punched through a window and into the rain. He gave a quick flick of his wrist causing the sleeved kyoketsu-shoge to then sink into his attacker. He pulled himself back into the room where he then swung his opponent into an opposing wall. With the small blade still inside of his enemy Momomaru pulled heavily on the rope it was attached to. He grabbed his enemy by the throat, just as his body came within reach, before turning and slamming him against the ground. The young martial artist then jumped straight into the air before tugging on the rope once more.
The two crashed through the floor as Momomaru performed a rather powerful elbow smash to the enemy soldier. He quickly retrieved the blade from his enemy’s body before he began to recoil it. Before Momomaru could get to his feet he was suddenly being suffocated from behind with a large cloth filled with Chloroform. He groaned before he shot his head back into his attacker’s face. He quickly reached behind him and grabbed his opponents head before throwing him over his shoulders. Momomaru took a huge gasp of clean air as he very shakily rose to his feet. He wobbled back and forth as his vision shifted in and out of focus. Momomaru took a deep breath before he charged his enemy and tackled him through the wall.
Across the Pagoda, Momoko drew a Katana blade above her head before she turned to face a swarm of enemies. She grinned as she raced through them at extreme speeds. Her blade sliced, cut, and severed many of her enemies. She then threw the sword into the chest of an attacker and he began to fall backwards. The reflection of the sword showed Momoko moving from soldier to soldier, taking each them out one by one with her hands. In many ways it was brutal and full on ruthless so it was hard to tell who would live and who wouldn’t. The moment the enemy soldier hit the ground she turned to her reflection in the sword before she came over to it and pulled it from the corpse.
Across the tower and down below on the eighth floor Momomaru held onto his arm as he shakily got to his feet. He looked across the room at the soldier he had been engaged in merciless combat with. He seemed to be unharmed which drove Momomaru crazy. The young man screamed as he charged the soldier only to be grabbed by the collar. He swung around and slammed against the wall where the soldier delivered numerous blows to his face before turning and throwing him. The soldier approached Momomaru with malicious intent. Momomaru got to his hands and feet only to be jumped on and sent crashing through the floor to the room below. He groaned as he rolled onto his back and slowly sat up. As the young martial artist got to his knees the soldier swung his leg through the air to take off Momomaru’s head. Momomaru quickly raised his arm and blocked.
The martial artist turned his wrist and grabbed onto the soldier's ankle before he turned and swung him across the room and into a wall. He slowly got onto his feet before he took a few deep breaths before he charged the soldier. He lunged through the air and wrapped his legs around the soldiers legs and delivered many blows to his helmet before it then began to chip and crack. The soldier took a few steps before he bent backwards and then body slammed Momomaru through the remaining seven floors. When they hit the bottom level Momomaru gasped heavily before he began to wince in immeasurable pain. The soldier then knelt on Momomaru’s chest before he then reached down and clasped his hands around the young man’s neck.
Momomaru gasped and began to choke trying to get air back into his system. He tried to fight off the soldier as best he could but nothing seemed to work. Just as Momomaru felt his life slipping away his mother quickly came to his aide and delivered a kick to the soldiers head. The kick was so powerful that it snapped the man’s neck instantly and fell to Momomaru’s side. Momomaru took in a huge breath of air as his mother knelt down and started to help him up, “Are you okay? Are you hurt?” She asked,
“I’m alive,” Momomaru replied through groans and whimpers as his mother pulled him to his fest, “My ribs…it’s so hard to breath…and my back and shoulder and-“
“You’ll be fine,” she said, “Just breathe, okay? Just breathe.”
“Mhmm…” He hummed weakly,
“Sweetheart, you’re covered in blood.” She said as she tried to clean him off as best she could,
“You should see yourself,”
“Most of this blood isn’t my own,” she replied,
“Are you hurt…?”
“I’m fine, just a little shook up.”
“Okay…” He then looked his mother up and down before he noticed a scar on her stomach, “What about that…?” He asked as he gently touched it,
“That’s not from today,” she replied, “You really don’t remember that?”
“No…” he replied as he shook his head,
“It was the first time you attempted a punch using Godfist.”
“You never told me…”
“I didn’t want to worry you.” She then turned as she heard heavy footsteps. Momomaru heard the footsteps himself so he slowly turned in the same direction. A bright light shined from outside and in front of it was a man in a large suit of armor. The armor was a silver color and resembled that of an Oni. It stood just a few inches taller than his mother and once it fully entered the room it reached behind itself. It then swung its hand downwards to reveal a large black Kanabō.
“Oh shit…” Momomaru said as the suit of armor then advanced towards them at a great speed. It lunged through the air and swung the massive club over its head and down towards the mother and child. The two then vanished faster than the blink of an eye and raced in two separate directions. The suit of armor turned slightly only to be struck in the face with Momomaru’s feet. It grabbed his ankle and swung him upwards before slamming him back down onto the ground. It went to crush Momomaru with the club but was then struck from behind by Momoko and sent flying across the room.
The armor pushed its club against the ground to flip back onto its feet before it slid to a stop. The armor then looked across the room at the mother and son seeing a fierce and powerful aura irradiating from them. The two then charged it and each threw a punch which the Oni Armor blocked by crossing its arms. Momomaru then quickly shoulder bashed the armor causing its arms to uncross. He struck the armor twice in the chest before he quickly ducked beneath an oncoming punch. Momomaru then wrapped his arms around the armor's legs before he quickly shot up and slammed the armor onto the ground. The young martial artist then jumped and body slammed the armor before he delivered an unholy amount of chain punches to the armors face in rapid succession.
He quickly rolled and lunged off the armor as Momoko grabbed the suit of armor by the foot and tossed it a few feet away from her. The suit of armor then stood up as it got ready to fight her. However it was caught off guard when Momomaru suddenly appeared directly in front of it. The armor threw a punch only for Momomaru to knock away the armor's arm with a right uppercut. He then struck the armor on the side of the head with the side of his right fist. As the armor threw a right hook Momomaru blocked with his left forearm before he hit the armor's forearm with a downward strike from his right fist. The martial artist reeled his right fist back and threw a punch which the suit of armor quickly blocked with its left arm. Momomaru grabbed the armors wrist with his left hand before delivering a downward strike to the armor's left elbow and followed up with turning its arm causing the armor to hunch over. With the armor hunched over Momomaru swung his knee into the armor's chest as he then struck the armor’s back with his elbow at the same time. Momomaru then stood the armor up and performed a kick to its chest which then sent him through the air and over his mother who then accelerated towards the armor.
Momoko grabbed the armor's horns and pulled its head downwards before she delivered a powerful chop to its head. The armor pushed away from her before it swung both its arms in her direction. She raised her arms and blocked its oncoming attacks before she then grabbed its arms and threw the armor to the ground. The armor rolled past her before it got up and charged her again only to have her turn and perform a roundhouse kick to its chest. The armor slid before it charged her again, she grabbed onto his horns and turned and through the armor once more. Once the armor bounced back she jumped and spun delivering a powerful kick to the armor's face causing it to fall onto its back. The dust from the impact of the armor falling down made the room a lot more difficult to see in.
Momoko then hunched over as she released a heavy and painful sounding gasp. The armor had thrown its club and it landed directly in her stomach. The armor raced over to her and pulled the club away from her before it spun and stuck her in the back sending her crashing through the air. Momoko quickly rebounded and accelerated towards the armor. The two exchanged blows at incredible speeds. Every now and then her fist would collide with the armor's fist to with its club causing the entire pagoda to shake. Momoko began to scream loudly as the two continued to exchange blows getting faster and faster. Momomaru began to look around as pieces of the pagoda began to fall apart and eventually begin to fall on top of them. Just as the tower began to collapse Momoko quickly blocked an oncoming club strike with her left forearm as she began her next attack. Through her bones in her feet, into every muscle fiber, blood cells, veins, tendons, and her very existence a chain began to move through her body. It moved through her legs, up past her waist and directly into her brain before it all flowed and focused into her bleeding right fist. “Behold the Power of the Futsunushi-Takemikazuchi-no-Mikoto-Mononobe Clan!!!!” Momomaru’s eyes widened as he could really just see it! A powerful and mighty warrior formed around his mother before it flew inside her single right fist, “SUPER GODFIST!!!!!” She then delivered her powerful punch to the armor’s chest.
The massive shockwave caused the entire pagoda to shake before it eventually fell straight down on top of them. The dust flew into the surrounded woodland and even stretched far beyond that. The boards and paper began to move slowly before Momomaru punched his way to the surface. He took a huge breath of fresh air before he wiped his eyes and looked up at the moon. He panted heavily before he looked around, “Mom!!! MOM?!?!?!!!!” He looked around before he then saw the building had fallen and formed a ring around the center of the bottom floor. He saw his mom standing there in front of the suit of armor. “Mom!!!” He then began to slowly and painfully make his way over to her.
Momoko stood there with her eyes wide open and her breathing loud, heavy, and shaky. Her fist was plunged into the chestplate of the suit of armor, and her other arm stood there still in its blocking position. One of the spurs from the club had pierced her forearm in such a way that she now physically couldn’t move it without the club being retracted. “Mom!!!” Momomaru called as he tripped and fell flat on his face. She clenched her teeth before she quickly turned,
“NO!!! MOMOMARU!!!”
“Mom, I-“ his eyes then widened as he noticed the suit of armor begin to move. It brought its right arm around and grabbed a blade from its waistband. “LOOK OUT!!!!” Momoko then began to turn her head before she was then stabbed in the gut. “MOM NO!!!!” Momomaru screamed as he started to move to the best of his abilities. The armor slashed Momoko up the stomach as he slowly retracted the knife. He then brought the knife straight up and stuck it into the bottom of her jaw and up into her mouth slightly piercing her tongue. After retracting the knife the armor then delivered a kick to her abdomen sending her flying and eventually onto the floor beside Momomaru, “Mom!!! Mom!!!” Momomaru cried as he forced himself to a sitting position before he pulled Momoko onto his lap. “Hey!!! Mom!!! Speak to me!!! Hey!!!” He shook her and gave her face a gentle slap. Her eyes fluttered and her lips softly quivered.
“Maru…”
“Yeah, yeah, I’m here, I’m right here…!”
She lifted her slightly broken hand and placed it on the side of his face as she said, “This isn’t the life I wanted for you…”
“Yeah, I know, you already said-“
“Listen to me…there’s a school that I enrolled you in…” she slowly reached into her top and pulled out a crumpled up letter, “Knowing you…I made sure it was a martial arts school…but you’ll also get a regular education…” she held the letter up to him as tears began to form in her eyes, “Please….Maru…take it, please go there…”
“Mom I-“
“If not, then that’s okay…there’s also a paper in there with my sister-in-law’s address…” She winced before continuing, “She’s the only one who I’ve told about you…so she knows who you are…her name is Choki Sayuri, and she has two children…your cousins…you can go to them if you aren’t ready for school…”
“I-“ he then grabbed the letter before saying, “No, I-“ he clenched his teeth and said, “I can’t!! I’m just not gonna leave you here!!! I’m sure there’s a hospital down in the city that-“
“Nm…” She responded as she shook her head, “I’ve lost too much blood already….if it wasn’t for that knife then maybe, but now I’m too far gone…”
“Mama please…” He sobbed with his tears running down his face and onto hers,
“Please…go live the life that I wanted for you…go see the world…”
“I don’t know if I can…”
“I know you can…” she said as she remembered something she’d say to him when he was a child, “Who’s my brave strong boy…?” His eyes then opened only for him to look into his mothers eyes for the final time before they closed. Momomaru sat there unable to process everything that was happening. He slowly laid his mom down on the floor before he clenched his side and rose to his feet. He clenched his fists before he turned to face the Oni armor only to see it had vanished. He clenched his teeth before he threw his head to the night sky and let out a massive scream of anguish. He then hunched over and held his side once more. He then looked down to the envelope in his hand before opening it up to see a plane ticket.
