Chapter 2:

Chapter 2: White Tile and The Numbers

Afterimage

I woke up in the chair where I was sitting before.

Aww! My head!

The next second I was already falling down due to the pain that was still radiating throughout my head, before I had time to digest everything now there was a different notification sound before, sounding more rough like an error warning.

Curious, I got up from the bottom while massaging my head which was still dizzy and saw the whiteboard which previously only showed numbers now changed to the words 'Error'.

Not long after, new writing began to form until it formed the sentence 'Repairs Will Be Made In Short Time'.

Repairs? I wondered what that meant. Ah! That's right, I just realized that this class has become a mess, the desks and chairs are irregular and not a few have even fallen and broken— even my desk has been split in half.

But what was the cause? Could it be the black figure I saw earlier? And moreover, what happened to me at that time, why did I end up waking up in the same seat again?

No, no. I'd better get out of this horrible class first, I need to go to the toilet to freshen up and wash my red hands.

I slowly made my way to the still open classroom door, sometimes turning or going a little further to avoid the irregular chairs and desks on the floor.

When I touched the door board, the repair process was actually done and I saw that there was a CCTV in the upper right corner of the room. Since when did this classroom have surveillance cameras? Ah, there's no time! I don't want to be confined to this classroom and race in numbers anymore.

A second after I had completely left the classroom behind me, the sliding door full of red closed loudly, even seemed to be locked—I was familiar with the sound made when the door of this unkempt classroom was locked.

I stroked my chest in relief, thank goodness I hurried to get out!

Now I only need to go to the left, but, ah shit! why is there a black figure at the other end, I don't want to lose consciousness because of its actions, my head was about to burst earlier.

Huh, what a hassle. I couldn't help but go to the toilet on the other floor, thankfully there was nothing on the right side except of course the red color that irregularly lined the entire wall of this hallway from the white color—certainly our school wasn't like this originally, it should have been blue that decorated this area.

Just as calmness was on my side, as I took my third step, the notification sound just like in the previous class rang again. Shit! Curse you sound bastard!

Magically the red color of the floor in front of me began to shape itself and form a square pattern the size of a cubic tile randomly to the end of the room, and the number that became a new thing for me to hate also appeared on the ceiling of the hallway wall of this room.

No! Why do I have to deal with numbers again this time. Ah the difference is that this time the numbers above actually show the duration and countdown from 10?

Damn, what should I do? Ugh there's no time to think, I have to move forward regardless of the consequences.

But that only added  trouble to my mind, as I stepped onto the white tile in front of me it suddenly showed a red number 4 and the next second it decreased to 3.

I panicked and then reflexively jumped back only to find that my attempt failed and realized that there was a like transparent barrier behind me, I was completely cornered!

As the number on the step displayed 1 I jumped onto another white tile that was two squares across and one square to the left-logically like a horse jumping on a chess piece.

After successfully jumping smoothly and knowing that the number on my new foothold showed the number 7, I let out a little sigh of relief. I saw that my previous foothold had now disappeared and I had no idea what was waiting down there.

The sound of the notification ringing made my heart almost fall out, I quickly stroked my chest, oh my gosh what a shock!

The number on my footing that last time touched the number 4 has now disappeared and the red colors on the tiles are randomized again. Ah! so this is the pattern, the second time in the ceiling is responsible for the duration of which tiles become red which I understand must not be stepped on or bad things will happen.

There are three white patches of ceramic on my right in a row this time, it seems like luck is on my side. But in fact, expectation is always the opposite of reality, what is luck?

After the randomization completely stopped and the number on the ceiling of the hallway this time showed 12, I who wanted to relax a little more became agitated when I found out that the number engraved under my feet was not the same as before, but a 2!

Worse. I deftly took a step to the right side only to find the number on the ceramic showing 2 again!

I took another step to the right, and another 2 appeared under my feet. Seriously! By the god Neptune if one more 2 comes out then I will hate this number!

The last white patch in the third row that I am now standing on again shows a 2! Ok now I hate the number 2.

I blinked quickly until I recklessly jumped diagonally towards the front left and was even about to touch the red tiles in front of it due to the sudden jump, fortunately my body maneuvering was still reliable so I didn't fall or exceed the landing limit.

The number under my feet now showed 8. I slowly caught my breath and calmed myself down for a moment. Next time I didn't want to think about luck if the result would make me run out of energy like this.

The notification sound of the red ceramic randomization mark rang again. If I pay attention, how many seconds does each randomization take? Maybe 3 seconds? So what if the ceramic I'm currently standing on is designated as the red ceramic in the next randomization?

Just as I was thinking that, the tiles at my feet actually became red! I thought that the ones I was currently standing on would remain white but in fact everything was still randomized when the notification rang.

Accompanied by a deafening noise, the tiles around me fell and a garbage grinder was plastered around below me, it's a good thing I didn't reflexively jump onto the tiles next to me earlier or I would have been crushed to death.

With a leap of faith I jumped to the sixth row in front of me because it was the closest white tile I could reach.

The noise was getting louder until I couldn't help but cover my ears with both hands, and what I didn't realize was that this noise attracted the attention of a black figure who started to appear from the stairs far ahead, when I looked back, the black figure who was originally guarding the far left was now also chasing after me.

I didn't even care about the annoying numbers on display anymore, my current goal was the nearest white tile.
