Chapter 12:

Chapter 7

The Gate

Ben was lying in his room. It was late, very late in fact, and his stomach had been growling for quite some time. But he didn't even think about going to the kitchen. He was interested in what would happen if he didn't show up for a while. He rolled over and listlessly reached for one of his old school books. He regretted a little that he hadn't even tried to take the little book with him. But he also knew he probably wouldn't have failed. The door swung open with a loud bang. Ron peeked into the room briefly and frowned when he saw Ben. Then he just shrugged his shoulder, nodded to Ben, and disappeared. Ben clicked his tongue. It hadn't even taken a whole day for Ron to come by to check if he was still there. That worried him. However, it also meant that the house couldn't tell him if he was still there. That meant he, at the very least, had a chance. Now that it had been confirmed that he wasn't under round-the-clock surveillance, he could look for a way out. The next day, Ben made his way to the room where he had found the answers to all his questions. Maybe he would find a map of the house there. But when he arrived at the door, it was locked. Nervously, he looked around. From the glowing eyes of his skull, he was sure that this was the right door. Why was it locked? He looked around. The only one who could help him now was Amare. But meeting her was unrealistic. He could count the number of previous encounters with her on one hand. Why should he do it now? With hanging shoulders, he slowly made his way back to his room.

He met her. Only a few days later, she suddenly stood in front of him as if from nowhere. Beautiful as ever. This was almost too perfect. Maybe he could even persuade her to escape with him! He would certainly not get another chance like this in the near future. "Amare! I need to talk to you!"She looked up, confusion reflected in brown eyes. He recollected himself, stepped a little closer to her, and lowered his voice to a whisper. "I need your help. I want to get out of here, and I can't do it alone.""W-Why?"'"I'm being held captive here Amare! I can't get out on my own and I know you can help me."'Uncertainty flickered across her face."I-I don't think we should. C-Claudia would definitely have a problem if we just walked out like that.""Haven't you been listening to me? Claudia is keeping me a prisoner here Amare! She and Ron only brought me here to lock me away from the world!""H-how do you know that?""I looked it up, it was in a book in a room not far from here. Please help me." A pleading undertone had crept into his voice. He looked at her desperately. She took her time with her answer. After several infinitely long seconds, she whispered her reply."A-Alright. I-I'll help you."
